01:40the tree app says that this tree is a quaking aspen. That's right. Well, someone knows a lot
01:48about trees. Are you a tree? I have to know a lot about trees for someday. I would like to
01:55become
01:55an official Fab Forest friend. I too would like to be a Fab Forest friend. Did someone say they
02:05want to become a Fab Forest friend? We've all been saying it. Didn't you watch the beginning
02:10of the episode? Or were you in your cartoon trailer? Well, today is your lucky day. I'm
02:17Antzee Ferric, and if you want to become a Fab Forest friend, you just need to compete in
02:22the Fab Forest friend challenge. Oh, yeah, what's the challenge? I'll do it. First, you spin
02:29the giant Wheel of Forest. Then explore whatever forest you land on. Ooh, so many amazing forests
02:37to explore. Bamboo, redwood, rainforest. Oh, which forest will we land on? The only way to find
02:45out is to spin that wheel. Oh, what foresty forest will we get? You have landed on the Kelp Forest.
03:01Hooray, the Kelp Forest. We're exploring the Kelp Forest. But just one question about these
03:09kelp forests. What kinds of tree is kelp again? I'm confused. Kelp isn't a tree. It's a tree.
03:15It's a kind of seaweed. Seaweed? How are we supposed to explore a forest of seaweed? Do I look
03:21like a mermouse to you? Uh, pardon me, but seaweed makes it seem like this forest is in the ocean.
03:30Uh, the kelp forest is in the ocean. Sorry, but water's a little too wet for me to explore. I
03:36know,
03:36we'll just spin the wheel again. Siren, you only get one spin. Wait!
03:40Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
03:47If you want to be a fair forest friend, you must explore the kelp forest and find out why
03:52it's so important. All right, all right. I'll explore the kelp forest.
03:59Onward and seaweedward.
04:06Water. Why does it once again have to be water?
04:10Yeah, because that's where MC Ferret said that we could find a kelp forest. Right in the watery
04:15wet water of the Pacific Ocean. Okay, potential fab forest friends. It's time to explore the kelp
04:21forest and find out why it's important. Alley-ho!
04:34Uh, this doesn't look much like a forest. I don't see any seaweed.
04:38Huh, but according to MC Ferret, the kelp forest should be right here.
04:44Yeah, all I see are purple spiky bally thingies.
04:46Ooh, purple spiky bally thingies are my favorite. Let's play purple spiky bally thingy fetch.
04:54Oh, wait! Don't touch, Hal! Those aren't balls at all. They look like purple sea urchins,
05:00and those spines can be painful to touch.
05:03There sure are a lot of them. What are they doing here?
05:06Let's have a closer look, shall we? Onward, and urchin-ward!
05:13Hold the fishing line! I think I see some kelp here on the ocean floor!
05:18Whoa! That is one tiny forest!
05:21That's not a forest, Hal! It's just a few remaining pieces of kelp!
05:25What happened to the rest of the forest?
05:27Look! The urchin is eating the kelp!
05:31Oh, no! They must have eaten the whole forest!
05:34Oh, you're gonna get a tummy ache, little purple urchin!
05:38How can these little purple sea urchins eat an entire forest of kelp? That can't be good.
05:42It's just seaweed! Why does it matter if it's here or not?
05:46Let's keep looking for a kelp forest so we can find out!
05:52Anyone see anything?
05:56You guys looking for fish? I'm looking for fish! Who wants fish?
06:00Actually, girlfriend, we are searching for a kelp forest!
06:04Oh, yeah? Kelp forests are magnificent! So many delicious fish there!
06:09Used to be a kelp forest right in this spot, and now it's gone!
06:12Gone, I tell you, gone! Along with all the delicious fish!
06:16Oh, no! They will never see a kelp forest!
06:21Oh, yes, you will! I know another spot in the ocean, and it's got a kelp forest! It's beautiful! Follow
06:28me!
06:34Hey, look at all the plants growing under the water!
06:37Nope! No siree, doggy! Those aren't plants! Those are kelp! And kelp are one kind of algae!
06:43Like the green stuff you sometimes see floating on ponds?
06:46Yes siree, bunny! One and the same green stuff!
06:49Hmm, very intriguing! Kelp looks like a plant, but it's algae! This calls for a closer investigation!
06:58Come on, nature lovers! Let's explore this kelp forest!
07:05Man, oh, man! Look how tall this kelp is!
07:10There's so much of it! Oh, good!
07:12And it's so olive green and kelp-mungous!
07:18Oh, dear! I seem to be caught in the kelp!
07:23What are these thingies?
07:25Those are gas bladders!
07:27They act like little floats to keep kelp blades near the surface so they can get sunlight!
07:33Sunlight, eh? Does that mean kelp uses photosynthesis to get the food it needs?
07:38It sure does!
07:40You're a bit of a kelp expert!
07:43I'm a sea otter!
07:44Kelp and sea otters go together like peanut butter and jelly!
07:49Uh-oh! Shark!
07:53Everybody, enter the kelp!
07:56Little kelp help here!
08:02Phew! This kelp sure makes a great hiding spot!
08:06Yup! Kelp's great for hiding from predators like sharks!
08:10It's great for a lot of things!
08:12Like what? Tell us everything!
08:14Can't explain now! I'm off to find lunch!
08:16Wait! How will we learn more?
08:19Asks over the many, many, many other creatures that live in the kelp forest!
08:25Wow! We can make many, many, many, many, many, many, many new friends!
08:33Hi creatures of the kelp forest! It's me, Hal!
08:37Hello! Hi there!
08:39Oh, nice to meet you!
08:41Hello! Any sea creatures in there?
08:45Right here!
08:46Ah! The kelp is speaking to me!
08:49Relax! I'm not kelp!
08:51I'm a giant kelp fish, and I change color to blend in with the kelp!
08:55Oh! Nice to meet you!
08:57You camouflaged kelp fish!
08:59Tell me, what's it like living in a kelp forest?
09:02It's the best! There's always plenty of food, and the kelp provides lots of fresh oxygen in the water!
09:08Animals in the sea need oxygen too, you know!
09:11Ah, kelp!
09:13Oh, you guys! Check this out! There's more sea life down there by the roots!
09:17They're called holdfasts, cause they hold the kelp in place!
09:22Ah! The rock is speaking to me!
09:24I'm not a rock! I'm a crab!
09:27And I'm hiding from that sea otter you were just talking to!
09:31Oh! Well, thanks for the info, crab!
09:34Oh, come on! Now the whole ocean knows I'm here!
09:40Oh, look! A sea cucumber in the kelp forest!
09:44I see, cucumber! It's me, Hal!
09:47Wow! Sure seems like a lot of animals depend on the kelp forest as a place to live, to hide
09:53from predators, and to find food!
09:55Just like forests on land!
09:57It's not just that! Kelp forests help protect the shoreline during big storms!
10:06And don't forget about all the oxygen kelp pumps into the ocean through photosynthesis!
10:11Uh-oh! Don't look now! I think the kelp forest is in trouble!
10:15Oh, no! Purple sea urchins! They'll eat this kelp forest too!
10:20The urchins of the kelp! They're coming!
10:23We have to stop them!
10:25I'll take care of this!
10:28Stop! Roads closed!
10:30You shall not pass!
10:32Oh, no! They aren't stopping!
10:35Leave it to me! I got it!
10:37Excuse me! This is KELP News with an urgent urchin bulletin!
10:42All urchin to turn around and go the other way!
10:44I repeat, it is not safe for urchins!
10:48Oh, dear! The urchins are still coming!
10:51Well, looks like it's the end of this amazing, wonderful kelp forest!
10:58Oh, no it's not!
11:02The otters are protecting the kelp forest!
11:06Actually, we're just eating lunch! We love to eat purple sea urchins!
11:10As long as we're around to eat the urchins, there won't be enough of them to destroy the forest!
11:15So you'll stay and protect the kelp forest?
11:17As long as the kelp forest stays healthy, we'll be here!
11:22Now, besides the matter of urchins, what else threatens kelp forests?
11:26Pollution, warming ocean temperatures, very big storms...
11:30So what can we do to keep the kelp forests healthy?
11:33I know one way to help that you otter know!
11:37Thank you!
11:38We can fight ocean pollution to give the kelp help by picking up trash along the beach!
11:43And make sure everyone knows how important sea otters are!
11:47And protect the kelp forests!
11:53Congrats! You did it!
11:55You figured out why the kelp forest is so important, and what you can do to help!
12:00Does that mean...
12:02Yes! You are all...
12:04That forest rings!
12:07Yee-haw!
12:13Mission to Mars!
12:20Oh, so cool!
12:22You know, looking into space sure makes you feel tiny, doesn't it?
12:26Well, I always feel tiny, except around little tiny bugs, but yeah, that's true.
12:30The sky is... what's the Latin?
12:34Ginormous!
12:35It makes one wonder if...
12:37Is anyone else out there?
12:39Aliens? Flying saucers?
12:41Space dinosaurs, baby!
12:44Entire alien mouse civilizations powered by cheddar?
12:47Yeah, I thought about it.
12:49But where would one even begin looking for life?
12:51Granny Bunny says the universe is bigger than anything we could imagine!
12:56Even bigger than a giant giraffe on the top of a huge ferris wheel on the top of the biggest
13:01castle in the world?
13:02Yeah, Hal! Much bigger than that!
13:05So, let's start with planets we can see in the sky tonight!
13:09Hey, what's that red dot?
13:10That red dot is Mars!
13:13Whoa!
13:15No way!
13:16Way! It says that Earth and Mars are similar in some ways!
13:20And it isn't as hot as Venus or as cold as Jupiter!
13:24Mars is a good place to start looking for life outside of Earth!
13:28Ooh! Alien Monthly Magazine says the green aliens who live there are quite friendly!
13:34Hold the phone!
13:36These pictures were just taken on Mars' surface!
13:39Wait! Is that a... a Martian mouse?
13:42Oh, it is! And where there are mice there must be cheese!
13:45Oh, what would it be like to go to Mars?
13:47What would it be like to go to Mars?
13:49A daydream should begin here.
13:51Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? Where are you? Where are
13:54you?
13:55That's it, Squeaks! Today we will make history and become the first Earthlings ever to visit and find life on
14:06Mars!
14:07Mars! Mars! Mars! Mars! Mars! Mars! Mars!
14:10Okay, okay. This all sounds great, but how are we going to get to Mars?
14:15I know Houston can help us!
14:17Ma'ams. Sirs.
14:21What? It's my daydream. I can pretty much dream anything.
14:24Heard you needed to get to Mars.
14:26So, may I present to you the spiffiest spacecraft ever flown, the Space Age Mars rocket ship.
14:33BTW. The H stands for Houston.
14:42How do you like me now?
14:44I like you great, Houston! You've outdone yourself yet again.
14:49I do what I can, sirs and ma'ams. I will be at Mission Control and standing by to assist.
14:57All right, let's make history. Mass Martians, here we come.
15:02Onward! And Marsward!
15:06Three, two, one!
15:09Whoa!
15:13Whoa, that was fast!
15:15Huh, that's weird. Mars looks exactly like Sunset Park.
15:19Uh, Hal, we didn't go anywhere.
15:21Oh, right, that would explain it. Thanks for clarifying.
15:24Nature Cat, you need to release the safety brake. Over.
15:27Wow!
15:35Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
15:40Now, exiting the Earth's atmosphere.
15:42Yay!
15:43Only empty space ahead of us, gang.
15:47Kick back your feet and relax.
15:49Nothing can stop us now.
15:51Magic Cat, look out!
15:53Asterite!
15:54I've got to stop saying that!
15:57Whoa!
16:00Woo!
16:04Those came out of nowhere.
16:07There she is, the red planet.
16:09The red color you see is Mars' crust.
16:13Amazing!
16:15Red crust.
16:16I like crust, don't get me wrong,
16:18but where's the frosting and the sweet, yummy filling?
16:22Not pie crust, Hal.
16:24Crust also means a planet's outer layer.
16:27I wonder why Mars' crust is red.
16:31Okay, okay.
16:32Maybe the Martian mice painted it red
16:34with their little Martian paintbrushes
16:36so we could see them better from space.
16:37Yes. Nope. Now that I said it, I don't agree.
16:40Interesting theory, Squeaks.
16:42But Mars is red because the soil on the surface is rusty.
16:46Rust happens when iron, a mineral in the soil,
16:49comes in contact with oxygen and water.
16:51Yes, of course, it's the rust. I knew that.
16:53I was joking about the paint.
16:57I said, what?
16:58I said, what?
16:59That means there was oxygen and water on Mars at one time,
17:02just like there is on Earth?
17:04True.
17:05There are many similarities between Mars and Earth.
17:08You just have to look for them.
17:10Whoa!
17:10What are those two giant rocks doing out here?
17:13Those are Phobos and Deimos,
17:16the two moons of Mars.
17:18Two moons?
17:19That means I'll have twice as much howling to do.
17:22Oh, oh, oh!
17:23Moon cheese!
17:27Now entering Mars atmosphere.
17:32What are these space helmets for?
17:34Just to look cool on TV?
17:37Fun!
17:38Negative, Nature Cat.
17:40You actually need these oxygen helmets to survive.
17:43You can't breathe on Mars like you can on Earth.
17:46The air on Mars doesn't have enough oxygen.
17:49And it's very cold there, too.
17:52Like Winnipeg in winter cold?
17:54Usually much colder than that, sir.
17:57Try about negative 80 degrees Fahrenheit on average.
18:00Behold, the South Pole of Mars.
18:02Mars has a South Pole?
18:04Sweet!
18:05So does Earth!
18:07Correct.
18:08Mars has a North Pole, too.
18:09And just like Earth, Mars has frozen water at its pole.
18:15Justin, what's happening?
18:16Why is there turbulence in my daydream?
18:18You are in a dust storm, ma'am.
18:20Very common on Mars.
18:22Hold on tight.
18:25Captain Nature Cat, watch out for Olympus Mons.
18:28Over.
18:29I don't see anything!
18:33Oh, go right!
18:34Go up!
18:35Up, up, up, up!
18:41That was a close one.
18:44Olympus Mons is actually the tallest volcano in the solar system.
18:48It's more than three times higher than Mount Everest, Earth's highest mountain.
18:53Say what?
18:54No way!
18:56Way.
18:56Just like Earth, Mars has volcanoes and even canyons.
19:03Touchdown.
19:04You have landed on Mars.
19:06Hooray!
19:07Hooray!
19:08Hail on Mars!
19:10We're here.
19:11This is the moment we've been waiting for since I started this daydream.
19:16Agreed, Squeaks.
19:17And once we step off this spaceship, the kindly green aliens will surely be here to greet us.
19:24And don't forget space dinosaurs.
19:27But mostly the mouse Martians, yes.
19:29Let's do this!
19:35Greetings!
19:36We come in!
19:40Peace.
19:41Where is everyone?
19:42Maybe they all went to Pluto on vacation?
19:44Let's look around!
19:45There have to be aliens on Mars!
19:49You guys!
19:50I see it!
19:51I see a mouse Martian!
19:53I knew it.
19:54I knew I wasn't alone in this big cold universe.
19:56Please, my rodent brethren, be not afraid, for I come in cheese.
20:05Oh, it's just a rock.
20:07Oh, rats!
20:08I forgot about my helmet.
20:09How could I be making so many mistakes in my own daydream?
20:12Ugh.
20:13There has to be a Marsasaurus bone in here somewhere.
20:17An alien!
20:18Look!
20:19Oh, I never knew Nature Cat had an identical Martian twin!
20:23Oh, it's me, Nature Cat.
20:26Ah-ha!
20:28The alien civilization must be over that yonder ridge!
20:32Man, oh, man.
20:33I was excited seeing that volcano and ice cap earlier,
20:36but I'm disappointed over the lack of life here.
20:40Oh, who was I kidding?
20:41There's no Martian mice or extraterrestrial cheddar.
20:45Let's go home and end my daydream.
20:50Besides the red color,
20:52this landscape looks a lot like deserts we've seen on Earth.
20:56And the sand is sort of like at the beach back home.
21:00Not a Martian mouse, but it's a pretty cool rock, you know?
21:03Ugh, if only Mars had lakes and oceans.
21:07Actually, scientists think it did.
21:09Long ago.
21:10So there must have been fishes here.
21:12And whales?
21:14And octopuses?
21:15Or octopi?
21:16Or octopi-whatever it is?
21:18So far, scientists haven't found any proof
21:20that there was ever life here,
21:22but they think it's possible.
21:24But why are there animals, plants,
21:26and people on Earth and not Mars?
21:28Over time, Mars changed a lot
21:31in ways Earth didn't.
21:32And the kind of life found on Earth
21:34couldn't survive here.
21:36Well, why do we even care about Mars
21:38if there is no life here?
21:40Studying Mars can help scientists understand
21:42what Earth was like long, long ago.
21:44Like more than 4 billion years ago.
21:47Which is how old many rocks on Mars are.
21:50So this rock could be more than 4 billion years old?
21:53Wait, Mars rocks would be so awesome
21:56for my rock collection.
21:57Wait, you guys,
21:58I have a crazy idea even for a daydream.
22:00Let's stay on Mars and live here.
22:04Nature Cat,
22:04we'd be the first Earthlings
22:06to ever live in outer space.
22:07We'd be on a magazine.
22:08And Hal,
22:09you'd have the entire planet to yourself
22:10for digging and fetching.
22:12And Daisy,
22:12you could do science experiments every day
22:14to look for proof of ancient life.
22:16What do you say?
22:21Yeah!
22:30Mars is pretty amazing.
22:33So, what's it gonna be, Squeaks?
22:35Well, I really, really love Mars.
22:39But, sometimes,
22:41things aren't perfect.
22:43But you know what?
22:44That's life.
22:45And that's okay.
22:47Earth's not perfect,
22:48but it's my home.
22:49That's where I belong.
22:51Okay, I'm ready for my daydream to end.
22:56Mars is pretty cool, isn't it?
22:58It sure is.
23:00So sweet!
23:01What he and she said.
23:03Agreed.
23:04Maybe one day,
23:05I'll even build a spaceship
23:06advanced enough
23:07to take you there.
23:09Now, wouldn't that be something?
23:24I'll be right back to you next time.
23:25I'll be right back to you next time.
23:25I'll be right back to you next time.
23:26I'll be right back to you next time.
23:26I'll be right back to you next time.
23:27I'll be right back to you next time.
23:28I'll be right back to you next time.
23:29I'll be right back to you next time.
23:30I'll be right back to you next time.
23:32I'll be right back to you next time.
