00:01Hi, this is Matthew Singh from Obsidian Entertainment
00:03and I'm excited to announce that we've partnered with Virtuos
00:07to bring The Outer Worlds to the Nintendo Switch.
00:09The Outer Worlds is a single-player sci-fi role-playing game
00:12set in the furthest reaches of the galaxy, in the Halcyon Colony,
00:16a place that's been branded and operated by corporations.
00:20Me, as both a developer and a player of games,
00:23I love exploring new worlds.
00:25And with this game, we were able to build a completely unique universe
00:30from the ground up, something that you really haven't seen before.
00:33It's really kind of a cool place to explore.
00:36We have a unique kind of tone with the dark humor that we play with in it.
00:39You are from a colony ship that had been lost in transit
00:44and now, 70 years after being in hibernation,
00:48you're revived by Dr. Phineas Wells and recruited to try and figure out
00:53how to revive the rest of your colonists.
00:56As you venture through these different worlds,
00:59you'll find a place that's been run by corporations
01:02and you are trying to explore kind of what are their motivations,
01:06what are they really getting to.
01:07You're uncovering a lot of different kinds of conspiracies
01:09that might be laying in the shadows
01:11and trying to figure out, like, what's really going on in this world.
01:14At Obsidian, we really value player choice and consequence.
01:19That's something that we really spend a lot of time on for our games.
01:22And The Outer Worlds has a lot of it, all the way through.
01:26We really want the player to be able to drive the storyline of the game.
01:30And we do that by allowing you to have, like, ultimate flexibility.
01:34We really like to play in kind of a morally gray area.
01:37We really don't have a whole lot of binary kind of good-bad choices in this game.
01:42So every action you might think is good is going to have some other consequences.
01:47And so you're constantly looking at things and,
01:50well, if I give this thing to this faction,
01:53what is it going to do to the rest of the world?
01:55So we express that in a lot of ways in our games
01:58through the factions that you meet,
02:00the characters and companions that you take with you.
02:02All of them are kind of responding to your choices.
02:05We have a number of companions that you'll find throughout the world.
02:08As you go from town to town, place to place,
02:10you'll see these people and you'll be able to recruit them as part of your crew.
02:14And when you go adventure out,
02:16you can always select two of these guys to be with you at any point in time.
02:19And they'll help support you in both the combats
02:22and in the interactions with other people.
02:24They'll always be speaking their mind
02:25and helping you understand the viewpoints of the world.
02:28I really like how we express character growth and progression in our games.
02:33And we're doing something kind of unique for The Outer Worlds with our flaw system.
02:37Say you're going through different combats,
02:41you're taking a lot of hits to the head.
02:43Well, eventually, the game will be kind of monitoring what you're doing
02:46and offer you a flaw to say like,
02:49okay, would you like to take a permanent concussion?
02:51You might even have a harder time as you're taking hits to the head,
02:55but you'll get an additional perk that you can use
02:58to grow your character in another realm.
03:01And not only that, but once you have this,
03:04say you take a permanent concussion,
03:06you'll actually start seeing that in the conversations moving forward.
03:10Even your companions will start reacting to you,
03:13being like, oh, captain over there doesn't have all of his,
03:16you know, his circuitry moving.
03:18So things like that are really cool
03:21because it shows the game is kind of reacting to you.
03:25And it's another way of role-playing
03:27where you can start building your character through the actions
03:30and the world is kind of responding to you.
03:32We're looking for those types of things.
03:33It's a type of character growth that we haven't really seen a lot of before.
03:37I'm super excited about this coming to the Switch
03:39because it kind of blends two of my passions.
03:42I've been a lifetime Nintendo fan ever since I was three.
03:46I've had the NES all the way through every single console
03:50and every single handheld.
03:52And yeah, I mean, I love role-playing games, to be honest.
03:55I've been working on role-playing games for over a decade now.
03:57And I'm super excited to be able to take the type of experience that we have
04:01and be able to finally play it, like, on a handheld platform.
04:05Today we can play a full experience on the go, anywhere you want.
04:10And something like The Outer Worlds, I mean, hopefully we can find a new audience
04:14for people that may not have even had these types of experiences before.
04:18Following the launch of the other platforms,
04:20The Outer Worlds will be coming to Nintendo Switch.
04:22Stay tuned for more info at theouterworlds.com
