00:09Hi, I'm Hanslow.
00:11And I'm Hector Sanchez.
00:12And we're the producers of Mortal Kombat vs.
00:14DC Universe.
00:16Today we're going to talk about some of the new modes
00:18in our game and kind of explain what they are.
00:21One of the things we're going to talk about today
00:23is Free Fall Combat.
00:24Free Fall Combat is basically the mode of the game
00:27where as you're fighting there are certain places
00:29in the arena where you can throw your opponent out
00:31and as you throw them out you fall.
00:33Now traditionally this is more of a cinematic scene
00:35where you sit back and watch the action
00:37until you arrive to the next level of the arena.
00:39We've taken that out of the controls of the game
00:41and given it into the player's hands
00:42where now you can start throwing punches
00:44and trade punches with your opponent.
00:46Yeah, you can totally influence what happens
00:48in these kind of transitional pieces.
00:50They're very old school, they're very reminiscent of
00:52the old Mortal Kombat games.
00:54and we just wanted to add another layer of complexity
00:56to it in this iteration
00:58because that's what we can do now.
00:59And as you're falling you also have the ability
01:01to fill up the meter on the side of the screen
01:03which if you fill it to the right level
01:05you can pull off a super.
01:07Yeah, every character is going to have their own
01:08specific special move in Free Fall Combat.
01:10I know for the Green Lantern,
01:12his ring turned into like a saw, you know.
01:14It's really, really cool.
01:15There's a lot of cool things that are going to happen in there
01:16and I think players are going to look forward
01:18to actually building up that meter
01:19and pulling off those special moves in the middle of a fight.
01:21Definitely, definitely fun.
01:23Another mode that we have is Close Combat.
01:25This is more of a tighter and close fighting
01:27where the camera actually comes in really tight
01:29between the two players
01:30and you can actually see them trade punches
01:31and see the reactions
01:33and also see some of the damage that occurs
01:35as they're fighting up close.
01:37Yeah, it's a very brutal, intense kind of mode.
01:39The camera pans in close,
01:40we get to show off the detail of our character.
01:43The hits are real jarring.
01:44As the camera shakes, there's really like...
01:45The sounds are solid.
01:47Exaggerated.
01:48I mean, everything's really cool.
01:49And it's a guessing game between the two.
01:51There's a couple HUD elements that come up on the screen
01:53that kind of tells you what buttons that you're pressing.
01:55So if you pay attention, you can kind of learn
01:57your opponent's pattern.
01:59And the next time they try to...
02:00You can actually counter it.
02:01You can actually anticipate and counter it.
02:03And every character has their own counter move too.
02:05I know like Catwoman kind of does a little back flip out.
02:07You know, Scorpion does a cool ninja thing.
02:09Yeah.
02:09And the characters actually have their own attacks
02:12in that mode as well.
02:13So we were able to capture a lot of really cool animations.
02:15I know the Joker pulls in somebody and like pokes their eye
02:17like you would imagine the Joker would fight.
02:19Exactly.
02:19Catwoman kind of scratches on the face, you know.
02:22Batman has like this huge forearm with the...
02:24Yeah, every character has something special.
02:26So, you know, there's something for everybody definitely.
02:28The last mode that we actually kind of brought into this time
02:31right around is rage mode.
02:34Basically, combat rage is kind of the centerpiece
02:36and focal point of our story mode.
02:38and what rage mode in the game is,
02:40it kind of represents this kind of state of being
02:43where fighter just has no control over what they're doing.
02:46They're just kind of like enraged, obviously.
02:48Basically, you build this mode up by performing
02:50a lot of the special moves,
02:51performing a lot of the advanced combos,
02:53also by getting hit.
02:54Also by getting hit as well.
02:55So it's kind of, you're getting it and taking it.
02:58It's actually broken into two parts.
02:59One, if you fill up the bars individually,
03:01what you can do then is pull a counter.
03:03Yeah, yeah, you earn breakers.
03:05Breakers, right.
03:05basically pretty much is something that we've had
03:07in a lot of Mortal Kombat's combo breakers.
03:09If somebody is trying to start a combo on you,
03:12you can actually pull this up and stop it in the middle of it
03:16so that you're just not sitting there getting it 10 times over.
03:19Yeah, exactly. You can break it.
03:20But if you hold on to those breakers
03:21and you build up your rage meter the whole way,
03:23you hit both triggers, you trigger it,
03:24and you go into this kind of like five to seven second kind of state
03:27of being where your hit reaction animations are turned off.
03:30So if you're melee hitting me, I'm just going to barrel through all of your attacks.
03:34Or if I'm like trying to go into a defensive pose,
03:36you can break right through.
03:37Yeah, exactly. If you're blocking and I perform a combo,
03:39the first couple of hits are going to knock your block away
03:41and I'll be able to kind of continue through it.
03:43So it's a really game-defining, really game-changing moment.
03:46and you want to make sure that you trigger it at the right time.
03:49And the actual visual impact of it is really cool.
03:53Your body kind of goes into this whole big throw.
03:55It's something that we've never been able to do before
03:57and it looks really awesome.
04:06The Joker wins.
04:10Fatality.
04:16Fatality.
04:17Fatality.
04:17Fatality.
