00:04Hello, my name is Tom, Community Manager at Irving Games.
00:07Today I have the great pleasure to show you, for the very first time, gameplay of Transport Fever 2.
00:13Transport Fever 2 is a tycoon game, where the player connects towns and industries to let the world grow and
00:20to earn money.
00:21Trains, ships, planes and different types of street vehicles are available to build up a transport company.
00:27The game starts in 1850 and the player experiences the change of time until today.
00:34All content, including stations, towns or people, is changing its look over time.
00:39In this video I will show you a fictional map around 1970.
00:43We are on an island and I have already built up some things, so I can give you a good
00:47introduction into the game.
00:49The map was built with the tropical climate zone and we use here the Asian vehicle set.
00:53Transport Fever 2 also contains a temperate and dry climate zone, as well as a complete European and American vehicle
01:01set,
01:01so our beautiful island is a very specific example.
01:05The main goal of the game is to build up a profitable transport company.
01:09You earn money by transporting people and cargo.
01:12Towns play a central role in the game.
01:14The more they grow, the more money you can make.
01:16So let's have a look at how towns work.
01:19If we, for example, zoom in to Haikau, we see the inhabitants, which are all individually simulated.
01:26Let's have a closer look and click on somebody.
01:29Here is Elisabeth currently going shopping by foot.
01:33Here is Wolfgang currently driving home by car.
01:37People always move from their home to work, then they go home again, then they go shopping, and so on.
01:44It's the task of the player to find out where they move and build transport infrastructure there,
01:49so that Elisabeth and Wolfgang no longer need to walk or use their cars.
01:53There is a layer to visualize these three land uses.
01:56People live in the green buildings, go to shopping in the blue commercial buildings,
02:01and go to work in the yellow industrial buildings.
02:03Now, let's look at the bigger picture and see what towns need to grow.
02:08For that, I open the town window, which explains in detail how town grow works.
02:13Here we see all requirements, the current level of fulfillment, and the impact on town growth.
02:19We will fulfill some of them in this video.
02:22The first requirement is the reachability of workplaces and shopping facilities via public transport.
02:29According to the town window, on average, the inhabitants of this town can already reach about 350 destinations.
02:37Thanks to the shipping line going to another island, and the train line connecting one of the neighboring towns.
02:43However, not all people can reach the Harboa train stations,
02:47as stations have a limited catchment area, shown here with the white highlight.
02:52People outside of this area are not able to walk to the station and can't use the connections offered there.
02:58Therefore, to further increase the town's reachability number, we need to extend the reach of the station.
03:04We should introduce a bus line, so that people can drive to the station by bus.
03:08Starting close to the station, I will connect all three land use districts to the station,
03:12so that people from Haikau can reach the train station and harbor by bus,
03:17and also people from the neighboring towns can use the train and ship to come to Hakkhoi for work and
03:22shopping.
03:26We will end the line at the harbor with a terminal station to leave room for additional lines
03:30or a later expansion with a cargo platform.
03:34Having built the stations, it's just a couple of clicks to add a new line connecting them.
03:43To make it easier to find it later, I type in a name and set a color.
03:54Now we need a depot, where we can buy buses and assign them to the line.
04:08The buses will spread out automatically after a short time.
04:16As we can see, the number has already increased significantly,
04:19as the inhabitants of Haikau have now more places to go for work and shopping.
04:25This will help grow the city.
04:28We can still increase the value by expanding the public transport even further.
04:32As Hanoi already has a bus service near the train station,
04:36another good option is to expand the train line.
04:39For that, I reconfigured the terminal station in Hanoi to allow the expansion of the line to Khao Siung.
04:47Changing a station configuration can be easily achieved by just removing the main building
04:52and replacing it at the proper spots.
04:55This train station was built some time ago and the historical parts of the station,
04:59like the platform and roofs, will be kept intact as long as we don't remove them.
05:05In Khao Siung we can place a train station right next to the existing tram terminal.
05:10Stations placed next to each other allow passengers and cargo to switch between transport modes
05:15without the need of a road between them.
05:18Of course, stations can be placed in different configurations from the get-go.
05:24Now we have to connect the two stations.
05:26For that I will activate the layer for overlaying height lines.
05:30This helps to find the path with the lowest inclination and least required earthwork,
05:34which is important to allow trains to go faster as they don't have to climb hills.
05:39It also saves money by constructing.
05:49I will soon operate more than one train on this route, so I will build a double track
05:54configuration, which needs some switches before the train stations.
06:01I am also adding signals to allow trains to drive relatively close behind each other
06:08and they don't have to wait for a free track in a station.
06:11Now let's edit the line and add Khao Siung as a new stop.
06:15I also add Hanoi a second time, so that the train will stop there on its way back.
06:20The utilization of the line will soon increase,
06:23so we also have to raise its capacity.
06:25This can be done by editing the existing trains.
06:28For example, we can replace the wagons with ones that have more seats
06:32or we can add more wagons to the train.
06:35To reduce the time people have to wait for a train,
06:38we add additional trains to the line.
06:41The quickest way is to clone an existing train.
06:45Let's wait for the new trains to leave the depot
06:47and drive to their first stop on the line.
06:50to shorten waiting time we can increase the speed of the simulation.
06:54The time it takes for one calendar day to pass can also be changed
06:58and the time progression can even be stopped completely.
07:05Now Hikau is well covered with public transport,
07:08so let's have a look at the next requirement, private transport.
07:12While many people will switch to our services, some will always prefer the car.
07:16With close to 1900 reachable destinations, the value is already high,
07:20but it can still be improved.
07:22If we have a look at the destination layer,
07:24we can see where people are going by public and private transport.
07:29If we filter by Hikau, we can see that nobody currently is going to Manila.
07:34And to reach Kaohsiung, they also have to go through Hanoi,
07:37which there may cause traffic jams and emissions.
07:41Let's provide a shortcut for all the traffic by building a highway between Hikau and Kaohsiung.
07:48We could even build a more direct route with a tunnel,
07:51but that would be very expensive and I want to save money for later projects.
07:57Directly connecting the highway to the edge of the city may result in a bottleneck,
08:01so it is advised to come back later and see how the situation developed
08:05and if it needs further improvement.
08:08Next, we have a look at the demand for cargo.
08:10Each city demands two different cargo types,
08:13one has to be delivered to the commercial and one to the industrial district,
08:16as we can see here in the cargo layer.
08:19Hikau's commercial district demands food,
08:21which is one of the more simple chains, so let's start with that one.
08:25Luckily, there is a food factory not far away from the city.
08:29Currently, it is not producing anything,
08:31because it lacks the required resources, in this case grain.
08:35So let's find a nearby farm, which can supply the food factory.
08:40We could use any transport mode to deliver the grain,
08:44but in that case it makes sense to use trucks,
08:46as the farm and the food factory are relatively close to each other
08:50and we have already built a highway, so give it a second purpose
08:53and also use it for our trucks.
09:02To load and unload our trucks, we need truck stations,
09:06so let's build one next to the farm and the factory.
09:13Let's set up another line for our trucks
09:17and let's build a depot to buy new trucks.
09:21Many trucks have specialized versions,
09:24that can only carry certain cargo types,
09:26but have the advantage of more capacity in return.
09:30As we only deliver grain on this line,
09:32I will buy a couple of specialized trucks and assign them to the line.
09:42The farm is now putting its grain onto the truck stations,
09:45where trucks can pick it up.
09:46This is also shown in the information window of the farm,
09:49where the shipping value is now maximized.
09:54As soon as the trucks drop off the grain at the food factory,
09:57the grain counts as transported, thus the transported value is also increasing.
10:01It will reach 100% unless some grain is not delivered due to overflowing stations.
10:07At the same time, we can see that the food factory starts producing food,
10:12but now also has nowhere to ship its goods, so we'll hit to Haikau.
10:18The train station is located in the commercial district,
10:21where the food has to be delivered.
10:23So this is a good opportunity to use the station to drop off the cargo.
10:27It is currently a passenger station, so we will expand it with a new track
10:31and platforms, which are suitable for cargo pickup and delivery.
10:39At the food factory, let's build a train station attached to the truck terminal,
10:43as the truck terminal can serve as a connection between the train station and the food factory.
10:49Let's again connect the two stations with tracks.
10:52For the moment I will only use one train on this line, so we can keep the tracks simple
10:57and there is no need for switches or signals.
11:01Should there be the need for a second train later on,
11:03we can add a passing loop or expand the tracks to a double configuration.
11:12I already added a new line and build a new depot, so the only thing left to do is to
11:18buy a new train.
11:19In this case we need to pick wagons which can carry food.
11:32Let's wait for the train to make a couple of deliveries and have a look at the info video of
11:37the food factory.
11:38Now that the factory can ship its goods, the shipping value is increasing
11:41and later on the transport value will rise too, as soon as the food arrives in the city.
11:47This now also has a positive impact on growth which will even increase further when more deliveries are made.
11:53When all three values of an industry, production, shipping and transport,
11:57are above a certain threshold, the industry will grow to the next level,
12:02allowing it to produce and ship more cargo.
12:05Here the next step would be to connect another farm to supply more grain
12:09and eventually find a new city to deliver the food to.
12:12As I pointed out before, every city has a demand for two different cargo types.
12:17For the second example, let's find a more complex chain and go to Manila.
12:22Here the industrial district demands machines.
12:27Machines require steel, which we can get from this island.
12:32Here I have already set up truck lines to deliver coal and iron to the steel mill
12:37and a shipping line to deliver the steel from the steel mill to the machine's factory.
12:42Another truck line is delivering wood from two forests to a sawmill,
12:47where it is turned into planks, which is the second cargo required to produce the machines.
12:53And there's a truck line already supplying Manila with the machines,
12:57and thus the factory did already grow.
12:59There is still some shipping capacity left, so we need another customer.
13:04There is a passenger airline going from Manila to Jakarta, so let's use part of the existing
13:10infrastructure. For that we need to add cargo terminals to both the airport in Manila and the
13:16airfield near Jakarta. Both airports have bus terminals next to them, so let's expand them too
13:24and add some cargo platforms. In Manila I will use the existing truck line by adding a new stop to
13:32to deliver machines also to the airport. Keep in mind that we should check if the current amount
13:40of trucks on the line is enough to both supply Vanila and Jakarta with machines from the machine's
13:45factory. The industrial district in Jakarta is the destination for our machines. To avoid bulldozing
13:51buildings we can use this drop-off stop and place it on the sidewalk. The new lines also need vehicles,
13:57so let's buy some planes and trucks. Note that there are two categories of planes, small and large.
14:05On old airfields, like the one near Jakarta, only small planes can land. Modern airports can handle
14:11both small and large planes. Something similar is true for ships, large ships need bigger landings
14:17to be able to dock at the harbor. While our inhabitants are now happy to have public and private transport
14:22services as well as a good supply with cargo, there are also things that hinder city growth,
14:28so let's briefly touch on them as well. With growing cities and more and more people using our services,
14:35stations may begin to overcrowd. Here in Haikau we can see that several stops of our bus line are already
14:42overcrowded and so potential customers may not use this bus line as a consequence. A good measure is to add
14:49more or newer buses with more capacity or add an alternative line which provides a shortcut between
14:55the most crowded stations. If a train or bus terminal is running out of space, we can also increase
15:01the length of the platforms. In Kaohsiung we can see that there is heavy traffic on several roads.
15:10This is probably due to our addition of the highway from Haikau. To counter that,
15:15we can upgrade the road to a wider version. Houses will be moved if possible so the cost stays manageable.
15:23Crowded junctions may also be upgraded with traffic lights or a roundabout can be added to ease the flow
15:29of traffic. In Jakarta we have an issue with the emissions of our recently added trucks. However,
15:35in that case we can easily address it. When we added the truck line to deliver machines, the line was
15:41routed through a road next to the residential district. To avoid the residential district, we
15:47can build a bypass. This has two positive effects at once. The emissions are kept away from the
15:52inhabitants and the route is even a bit shorter, increasing the amount of cargo our trucks can
15:57deliver. In other situations, reducing emissions might need more work like re-routing entire train lines
16:03or reallocating noisy airports. Replacing vehicles with more modern versions or adjusting the maintenance
16:10level is another option to counter rising emissions.
16:15I hope you enjoyed this brief look into the gameplay of Transportiver 2. Of course,
16:20there is much more we didn't have time to cover in this video. This map was only one example of
16:25the
16:25challenges provided by the several game modes. If you want to enjoy an entertaining story with
16:30varied tasks, there is a campaign mode with 18 missions waiting for you. And the mapper detour and
16:36random map generator allow for virtually limitless possibilities to create and share your own
16:40challenges. In addition, a sandbox mode is available if you prefer to build whatever you like without
16:45being concerned about the financial aspects of the game. If you want to learn more, visit our youtube
16:51channel and have a look at the past development highlight videos, which cover the mapper detour and
16:55other interesting topics. Thank you all very much for your attention, we are looking forward to
17:01finally releasing the game. All the best and frantic greetings from the whole team at Urban Games. Bye bye!
