00:13Hi, and welcome to a new episode of Badfield Dev Talks.
00:16A special one. Today we're gonna
00:18talk about some scenarios
00:20where we play as a squad and show off
00:22some more advanced tactics and some
00:23cool gameplay. So, the first one here
00:26on Rotterdam. What did we do
00:28there? So, we were in the
00:30last sector
00:31attacking and we already owned the
00:33B flag, so we only had
00:35to actually take A. And we moved towards
00:37that street where there was a tank lying
00:40around that was actually trying to get to us
00:41and we were in that shock point
00:43holding near the health parade.
00:46Yeah, I think the tank was
00:48in a really good position shelling
00:49the objective, right?
00:51So, I think we took it upon ourselves to
00:53do a wide flank and try and take it out.
00:56and I remember I started out as
00:58support because I mined that
01:00shock point because I was in
01:01anticipation of him coming there, seeing us
01:03holding it. I swapped to
01:06Assault later though because I needed
01:07more AT in case he did not run into
01:09my mines. What did you guys
01:12play? I played as a medic
01:14which is always good
01:16to have in a squad because you can revive
01:17people much faster and
01:20it's always good to revive people
01:21if you die. And that's how we stayed
01:23here, right? Yeah. I mean we would have
01:25failed otherwise. Yeah, I think all of us died
01:27multiple times and you basically
01:29kept us going all the way.
01:31And then we, I think we also did some
01:34last ditch
01:35squad revives as well. Yeah, it was really good
01:37because although we had only one medic
01:39the body reviver really managed us to
01:41actually stay alive in that area and
01:43contain the tank in that shock point.
01:45It was really key actually to try to
01:46keep it here because our team
01:49was moving forward on the A point
01:50and that tank would have done a lot of damage
01:52if we, if it wasn't for us actually trying to
01:54actively hold it in that street.
01:56And then they ended up
01:59spending a lot of resources trying to
02:00get rid of us, right? Yeah.
02:03You could say the conclusion here really is
02:04that we made our team
02:06succeed by doing this. We tried to push
02:08the other team into
02:10making sure our team could succeed
02:12on average. Even if they weren't
02:14playing the objective as you usually
02:16should, we helped our team
02:18members to play the objective because we were
02:20holding off that tank. Yeah, I mean, I think
02:22we were occupying more than the tank.
02:24The rest of the team was also in the back
02:26trying to help out the tank, but
02:28we were doing more damage than them supposedly.
02:30So, it was really good.
02:32There was a few infantry guys trying to
02:34rush out a little...
02:37They really had to clear us essentially.
02:39Yes, they really did.
02:40Our make-believe objective if you will.
02:42Because we created our own objective and
02:43that's something you should do to succeed.
02:46Not only the ones on the UI
02:48are real objectives in this game.
02:51Okay.
02:52Let's go on to the next one then.
02:53This one is on Devastation.
02:55The second Rotterdam map.
02:58We're playing Breakthrough, right?
03:00But we're defenders this time.
03:01What are we doing here?
03:02What we are really trying to do is
03:05basically prevent the breakthrough
03:07by having the opposing team
03:10spend as much resources as possible
03:12trying to take the first point.
03:14Right.
03:15I think it's worth mentioning that
03:16in Breakthrough that first sector
03:18is extremely hard to hold.
03:19And the goal really as a team is that
03:20you want to make sure that you bleed
03:22the other team's tickets as much as possible
03:24and you just get them to spend resources.
03:26So, if your team is holding the other point,
03:29you just want to sit around here
03:31and just contest a flag as much as possible.
03:33Just delay them as much as possible.
03:36I think we basically know
03:37that this is going to be a losing fight, right?
03:39Yes.
03:39Because they are...
03:40and you can actually see that
03:41on the flag meter.
03:45We're going to lose this one.
03:46We know that, right?
03:47Yeah, eventually.
03:48But they're not going to grab my red car.
03:49Like, that's why we're doing this.
03:50No, that's true.
03:50That was the whole reason for being there.
03:52I think we fortified the whole area
03:54and this is pretty good
03:55to prevent enemies to get into this area.
03:58So, there was basically, I think,
04:00two or three chokeholds
04:01where they could actually get into us.
04:03and we covered it up pretty good.
04:06So, whenever they try to come, we just kill them.
04:10And they don't spawn super far away
04:11and they have multiple points they can attack from.
04:14So, it's really critical to actually try to save us
04:18from actually getting backstabbed, for instance,
04:20from attackers coming from different directions.
04:23And we're limiting their angles, right?
04:24I know I'm going to die
04:26and I have a medic I even told you not to revive me
04:29because I started as a recon
04:31so we could have a spawn beacon here.
04:33Yeah.
04:33Because I placed a spawn beacon behind the sandbag wall.
04:35So, we had a way to reinforce.
04:37Extra safety.
04:37Yeah.
04:38But then I knew I would die
04:39because I needed to have something else,
04:41either a medic or a support.
04:42I believe I'm an MG42 in this one, for instance.
04:46And we were mostly running kits that allow us to have a lot of sustain.
04:50So, be it a medic or a support
04:52so that we can keep on having respawns if you want to play scout
04:55and medics to obviously revive
04:57because we are going to die in that top point a lot.
05:00So, we need to just get back on feet as soon as possible.
05:02And this, as you can see,
05:04it looks like we're getting overrun as well by the enemy constantly.
05:08And that's because this point is very vertical.
05:09There's like three stories.
05:10And they're probably on the top one
05:12because that means they could look at the initial entryway for our team.
05:15So, our team can't really support us here.
05:17We're sort of an island.
05:18I think by the point where they actually get the upper side,
05:25I mean, the upper floor,
05:28it's basically a loss to that flag.
05:29So, you really want to just, you know,
05:32just stay in the capture area, kill them as much as possible.
05:34Try to hold it as long as possible.
05:35Exactly.
05:36But they probably also know that as soon as they leave the flag,
05:38we will start recapturing it, right?
05:40So, they can't just forget about us.
05:41They basically need to kill us and the...
05:44and the respawn point.
05:46I mean, you can see how much resources they're spending on that flag
05:49because we're still holding A really, really well.
05:51A is not just super far away.
05:53So, it means that our team is doing the rest of the job
05:55while we're trying to do as much as possible in that area.
05:58And I mean, that's the conclusion here as well, right?
06:00We are trying to make our team succeed
06:02by doing something that they might not have done.
06:05We're sacrificing ourselves.
06:06Essentially, our KD is not going to be great, right?
06:08But we're probably going to win this.
06:09My KD was great during this while.
06:11We're actually a pretty good KD, I'm going to say.
06:14Of course.
06:15It was the first time, it was really good.
06:17I mean, with all the revives coming in,
06:19I think we actually still have a pretty good KD.
06:21Yeah.
06:22That is true.
06:23But you always have good KD.
06:25I try.
06:27Is that because you cheat, Florian?
06:31Okay, let's move on to the next one.
06:34This one's on Arras.
06:35We are actually attacking this time around.
06:38It's also a breakthrough.
06:39We're attacking, I believe, the first point, right?
06:41B.
06:41And we said, let's go for a defensive player here.
06:44Let's bunker this thing up.
06:46Essentially build it up and then defend it
06:47so they can't take it back
06:48so our team can succeed in taking the other point.
06:52What's special about this point?
06:53I mean, we were already owning that point for quite some time
06:57and we were just missing A before we can move on to the next sector.
07:00So we just tried our best to set our base on the B flag
07:04and just basically defend so that we can make sure they don't retake the B flag.
07:08Yeah, because it was doing the JoJo, right?
07:10It was like we had one, they had one, and we just flipped it.
07:12I mean, that's what happens in breakthrough a lot.
07:14Teams tend to just move from one point to another
07:16and if you don't have a few people that actually think,
07:19oh, maybe we should just defend while our team is doing the rest of the job,
07:22then it tends to just go back and forth forever
07:24and then you lose a lot more resources than you actually should on those directors.
07:28It was funny because, I mean, it started out pretty low intensity.
07:31We built some fortifications, we set up MGEs, we sort of took the point
07:35and then as the enemy team got aware of us,
07:38they started sending more and more people in our direction, right?
07:41You can notice by that tree that there's a bunch of them just trying to come,
07:44but we're enabling or we're not really letting them come through over the field
07:50so we're keeping that point fairly well without them being able to flank us in any way
07:54because there's really no way for them to do it.
07:56And at that point it's really, really good to hold as well.
07:58We have a lot of fortifications around and we're always more or less safe
08:02if we just stay a bit back and we just can peek around every now and then,
08:06just make sure we contain multiple angles.
08:09I think eventually they just run around and took the house,
08:12which was already a great point to hold.
08:15But we had good revives coming in all the time,
08:18so we actually held on forever.
08:20And their position is pretty good when they're playing support and snipers, right?
08:24So they can trade pretty effectively with us,
08:26but that doesn't really matter because we're on the flag and you kept reviving us.
08:30And we had unlimited ammo.
08:31Yeah, we had smoke grenades as well to make sure that our revives are always safe.
08:35So if you see that your teammate is more or less in the open,
08:38you just want to throw a grenade on that guy and get the revive off
08:41before anyone can really see where you are going to actually do the revive.
08:46And the Breakthrough is a good mode because it's linear,
08:48so you know which directions, they might be multiple,
08:51but they're probably not more than two they're going to come from.
08:53So it's fairly easy to just set up shop and say,
08:55OK, let's defend. They are going to funnel in here.
08:58Once they realize, oh wait, they have this flag, we can't get it.
09:01They are going to throw themselves at it as Zerglings, if you will.
09:06And that's what we want to stop with the flip-flop, right?
09:08That's the whole point here.
09:09We want to make sure that it doesn't go back and forth.
09:11We want to push the sector.
09:13And the best way to do that is actually defensive play.
09:15And again, the more resources they spend,
09:18if we actually are spending less resources defending
09:20and they're spending a lot more,
09:22we know for a fact that our team will have better chances
09:23to actually get that other flag, which was actually the case.
09:26because it's a numbers game with four people
09:28and they have to spend like ten people in order to retake it, right?
09:32So that's a good net result.
09:35OK, let's go move on to the next one.
09:38This one is about a flank and a tank.
09:40A failed flank of ours and a good flank from the tank.
09:45It's hard to say that.
09:46What happened?
09:48Yeah, so I think we were on the barges,
09:51trying to be all clever and outflank the enemy.
09:54We put down the spawn beacon,
09:56but then this light tank shows up
09:58and completely wrecks our party, basically.
10:01He had a really good view of our position
10:03and he was just killing us.
10:06Yeah, it was at a point where I switched
10:08from being a medic to assault,
10:10and I tried to take him from the front,
10:12but that failed miserably.
10:14And then I noticed that you spawn on the HQ
10:16and flanked him from behind.
10:18And as tanks are more vulnerable from behind,
10:22both of us attacking this tank was fairly easy.
10:25But he noticed that you're coming up
10:28and basically kills you,
10:30but we take him out in a way
10:32and when everything is safe,
10:33I come and revive you back.
10:34Yeah, I should probably have...
10:36I mean, I damaged the engine clearly
10:37because it started burning,
10:38but I should have probably gone for the turret.
10:40Yeah.
10:41And then I would have survived,
10:42but in the end it didn't really matter
10:44because you were there to save me.
10:45Yeah, and the whole idea is that you sync this up, right?
10:48If you want to kill a tank,
10:49no matter if it's a light or a heavy one,
10:51you need to sync it with others.
10:52And this is an example
10:53why we don't actually run together as a squad.
10:56We actually just split off from you guys.
10:59So you kept doing whatever you were doing
11:00and we went and...
11:02But we were dying.
11:03This was a quite proactive play
11:06because we were trying to retake that B flag.
11:09Obviously the first attempt didn't work out,
11:11but then when we tried to flank,
11:13that tank had a really, really good position
11:14and it was very critical to actually try to take it down.
11:17Yeah.
11:18So, yeah, after that it was a bit more...
11:20I mean, a bit easier and...
11:22Yeah, our team was probably struggling on A,
11:24so it was really, really critical
11:25that we tried to get that tank down
11:26and then move on to B.
11:27Yeah.
11:29Nice play, Marie.
11:30Thank you.
11:31So, this one is the final sector of Arousing Breakthrough, right?
11:34I think it's the same match that we played earlier.
11:37Yeah.
11:37This is us essentially going for the win, right?
11:40And what does the team normally do here in this situation?
11:44They swarm the final objective!
11:46Swarm, that's basically it.
11:46It's only one objective.
11:48It's only one place to go to.
11:49Yeah.
11:49So everyone is trying to attack that as quickly as possible.
11:53So, my thinking here was, I'm a squad leader.
11:55I'm gonna stay alive.
11:56I'm just gonna be over by these Rauk,
11:58as we call them where I'm from,
11:59with an MMG,
12:01and the combat role that spots people when I suppress them.
12:03So my team can see them and kill them all.
12:05And there's some epic destruction on the house as well, as you can see.
12:08Kind of a tough position to push from, right?
12:10Because it's basically an open field,
12:11and they have all this built-up area,
12:13and all we have is this rock.
12:14I mean, I went forward already,
12:16so the suppression from the MG was really, really useful,
12:21really allowed me to actually get through that build,
12:22because those people saw me.
12:24There was the A barn here,
12:26which is like a very critical point.
12:27I think everyone is sitting basically in that barn,
12:30waiting for us to push anywhere.
12:31And I managed to actually get close without really getting shot,
12:33so that means my squad was doing some pretty good work there.
12:37But actually, just in those fields,
12:39it's quite hard to see the enemies sometimes.
12:41So you can lay down there, and they won't really see you.
12:43You can literally walk past people you didn't see.
12:46Yeah, so those fields are terrifying.
12:49And if you look at the destruction here,
12:51it's pretty clear that this has been pretty heavily contested for a while now.
12:54Yeah.
12:55And once the rest of our team moves in,
12:58we're actually capturing the flag.
12:59We're getting the majority of people in there,
13:03and we win the game.
13:05Yeah, then it's over.
13:06And we're best squad.
13:07Yes, best squad, and it's very close.
13:09So you have to push when we have only 50 tickets or so left.
13:12We have to do this push now or we're gonna lose.
13:16And, of course, we're the best squad.
13:18That's how it ends.
13:19And we should tell the viewers that this is from a regular playtest,
13:23where everyone's tryharding.
13:24We're not scripting this stuff.
13:26I don't think anyone was aware that we were recording videos at all.
13:29We were just playing, and they were just playing.
13:31Yeah.
13:32It was hard at times to get some good moments,
13:34because there are some good people out there.
13:36Yeah, they're trying to make our life miserable.
13:39Okay, let's move on to the next one then.
13:41This one is a full round, actually.
13:43We want to show off how we play as a squad.
13:45We realized in this one that we sort of have to carry our team to victory.
13:49This is also breakthrough, us as attackers, right?
13:51What happened?
13:53So, the first sector, I think we moved through it fairly quickly,
13:57which was actually quite incredible,
13:59because the first sector is hard to take,
14:00given the very high distances between both objectives,
14:04and there's the main road that goes all the way to the bridge
14:07where defenders spawn there,
14:09so it's easy for them to control that area
14:10and just prevent us from...
14:11You need to cross that road somehow.
14:14Yeah, exactly.
14:14And that is always quite hard.
14:16And there's some long sightlines, too.
14:17This is when we opted for a double sniper medic plus vehicle sort of setup,
14:22which was quite interesting.
14:24Bombing runs from a flare gun is a thing.
14:27You should try it.
14:29It happened like once, but...
14:30But it sort of worked.
14:32But the double sniper is really good,
14:33because if you miss your headshot,
14:35the other sniper is going to kill that guy,
14:36if you're on point and, you know, looking at the same guy.
14:39And then eventually we just moved forward.
14:41Next sector was taking the bridge and then taking the farm.
14:44We started on the bridge.
14:47Yeah, the infantry part.
14:48It's a really high concentration point in the sense that so many people,
14:54there's a sandbag setup where you can just see heads and shoulders popping from the sandbag.
14:59So you have to get close.
15:00You have to destroy the sandbags as well.
15:02But once you actually log that point,
15:03it's fairly easy to actually keep it and then move towards the farm.
15:06I think this map, especially when the distances are so long and you have these choke points,
15:12it's almost more important to stay together than being clever at times.
15:16Yes.
15:16And it's tricky to get what your rest of the team wants to do.
15:21Because in that game, more specifically, we were kind of the squad that actually tried to do everything
15:25where we say, all right, now we need to take that point.
15:27We're going to go for that point.
15:28And then we take that point and then we move to the next one.
15:30And in that third sector specifically, we had a lot of back and forth just because of that.
15:34And our team was more or less trying to do the same thing as we were doing.
15:37So we had to go back multiple times to take the other one.
15:40And in the meanwhile, our previous flag we just took was taken again.
15:43Yeah, there's a lot of back and forth.
15:45And it's hard to stop that.
15:46And this is probably the worst point for that in the whole game, I would say.
15:50There's so much distance.
15:51I guess there's like 250 meters or something from point to point.
15:54So it's so much time for the defenders to come back and just take that flag back.
15:58There was at one point we went from the farm and trying to advance towards the bridge.
16:03And you were a sniper just trying to get people off the bridge.
16:06And I was a medic just reviving you like ten times maybe.
16:08Yeah, I think I died five, six times and you revived me every time.
16:11It's great for my KD, but...
16:12You should actually take out the medic first in that scenario and not the sniper because...
16:17Yeah, they didn't kill you, they just killed me.
16:20Be careful about spreading that notion.
16:23And this map is also special because in the end the final sector has three points you have to take,
16:28which is pretty hard and two of them are uphill as well, depending on which direction you come from.
16:33But if you have a vehicle like we did, I think, in the end of this, we had a tank,
16:36you were in a tank, Jesper, right?
16:38We were pushing up the hill, we were taking the first one.
16:40We made sure that our whole team followed us.
16:42So we had the whole bulk of our team pushing up the hill.
16:45Yeah, I mean, once you get into a tank, it's like a moving cover, right?
16:50Yeah.
16:50And I noticed Florian was trying to follow me around and I consciously tried to not steam ahead just because
16:58I wanted to provide some cover to my team.
17:00It was really good. I think there was like some people on the bridge and I was just behind the
17:03tank and just peeking every now and then.
17:04And they couldn't really do anything. And then they have to fall back eventually.
17:07It's also good for like a semi-makeshift defense if you have an MMG because bipodding on the tank is
17:13really useful.
17:14That also works. But you need to have your tank rather than move around then.
17:16Yes. You need to talk. Communication. And this is key here, right?
17:20Communicating in this sort of round is key. Otherwise we wouldn't have known what to switch to, when to do
17:25what, when to go for the spawn beacon.
17:28Let's go over there now. They have this and so on. I think this overall shows a lot of those.
17:33And then in the end, pushing up the hill, we essentially have to shift to medic all of us again.
17:38Yes. Very intense.
17:40We met a point where there was like so many defenders coming in and we decided, oh yeah, maybe we
17:46should just go full on medic and just try to get some revive pusher.
17:49Because they were actually focused on that point specifically and our team was capturing the two other flags.
17:55So we just had to take one flag and just managing to hold them in that area and pushing them
18:00back managed us to actually clinch the win here.
18:03Yeah. And I remember in the very end we had enough points for a V1. I wanted to like end
18:07on the V1 because we were going to win.
18:09But we just missed the final second.
18:11We were just a little too good, right? That's the final.
18:15Yeah. I guess that's the answer.
18:17I mean, it's really hard to take this reflex sector here.
18:19Yeah. And a V1 is a good way to do it because then you clear out the enemy's stronghold and
18:24then you can push in and take it.
18:25But yeah, that was Twisted Steel. Great map by the way.
18:28Yeah, excellent.
18:29That was it.
18:30Thank you guys for watching and thank you guys for playing.
18:33I think this sort of proves that it's way more fun to play with a squad that communicates and does
18:38what you try the hardest you can.
18:43And we'll see you guys on the battlefield.
18:45Thank you.
18:45Thank you.
18:46Thank you.
18:47Thank you.
18:48Thank you.
