00:00Of course the world ends, you did it to us.
00:08Year Zero, Road to Eden, is, we like to call it a tactical adventure.
00:13The gameplay is a mix of real-time stealth
00:17that seamlessly moves into this turn-based tactical combat.
00:22Another day, another mission, risking our necks for the Ark.
00:26You start playing as a Dachshund Bomberman who are two stalkers
00:29who are from this place called The Ark.
00:31And a stalker's job is to go out into the zone,
00:33which is what they call the post-apocalyptic wasteland,
00:36and look for scrap and things that could be used
00:38to help the people continue to survive.
00:40That's a bomb, alright? They used to call it a boombox.
00:43Don't be pretending you know what any of this crap is.
00:46We'll bring it back to The Ark and show it to Prip.
00:51Yeah, so The Ark, your only safe haven.
00:54Of course, this is kind of your classic hub.
00:57It's the place where you live.
00:58It's like a collection of mutants who have come together.
01:01What it does for our mutants in this game
01:03is that you can go back there to upgrade your weapons.
01:05Anything from more grenade damage
01:07to unlocking extra equipment slots
01:10to even getting a discount in the shop.
01:13And then of course you have the Elder,
01:15the mysterious person who keeps giving you
01:17small tidbits of maybe what happened before.
01:20You know, it's a bit strange how he seems to know
01:23a lot more than anybody else about the zone
01:25and what goes on.
01:26And you unravel his story as well as you play and progress.
01:33The story of the video game connects to the pen and paper RPG.
01:38It's not one to one.
01:39I mean, it's a pen and paper RPG.
01:41It doesn't have a story, right?
01:42It's completely open.
01:43But there is a meta plot in the pen and paper
01:46which we are following.
01:47But one of the pillars of this game is to explore the world, right?
01:50And find out what happened to this world that you're in.
01:52And then, very importantly, it's set in a very local environment
01:57that we all know.
01:58Which was one of the things that was always encouraged
02:01in the mutant pen and paper games.
02:03To put this where you live, so you know the area
02:06but now it's 500 years later.
02:08Or whatever age you think it is.
02:17Half his studio is ex-hitman developers.
02:20And we're big fans of tactical games.
02:22We all play them quite a lot.
02:23And the one thing that started to become obvious to us
02:26was that no one's really experimenting with the formula that much.
02:29So we thought that we would take the tactical genre
02:32which is a really solid rule set.
02:35And then just see, okay, how far can we push this?
02:37And we look at the things that people find really annoying
02:39in tactical games and see if we can solve that.
02:41And we concentrated a lot on the getting in and out of tactical combat.
02:45And bringing some of the stealth experience we have
02:48from making the hitman games and applying that to our universe.
02:53What we're trying to do a little bit different
02:55is to take the initial part of a tactical combat game
02:58where you're kind of setting up and planning your thing.
03:00We put that part into real time to speed up the loop with that.
03:05That gave us the opportunity to tell the story
03:07while you're the voyeur as hitman developers.
03:10We know that this works really well, right?
03:12Like when you're walking through, we can also tell a bit of story
03:14while you're setting up your ambush.
03:17Check that guy out. You see him? Head like an infected mushroom.
03:22He's one of the Nova sect.
03:23Bogeymen with big heads didn't think they were real.
03:31When you're in the zone and you become under stress
03:33and when you get like a rush of endorphins,
03:37then mutations become unlocked.
03:39You gain them through experience,
03:41very similar to something like a skill tree.
03:44However, we allow you to switch.
03:46Different combinations of these mutations
03:48will allow for different types of benefits.
03:52You unlock more during your playthrough
03:55so you get more options on how to approach a certain fight.
03:58But you also meet new mutants that you recruit
04:01and they all have a few mutations that are specific to them.
04:05But we're not going to give up all their gameplay.
04:08We want some surprises.
04:09We want some surprises.
