00:26Heavy Rain.
00:27I would like now to walk you through two other scenes that haven't been shown publicly.
00:32The first scene I would like to show you is called Father and Son.
00:36It features Ethan Mars, one of the four playable characters.
00:40At the beginning of the game, we see Ethan Mars with his family.
00:44He's a happy man, he's a successful architect.
00:47In the second scene, however, something dramatic happens.
00:51Jason has been killed in a car accident.
00:54The scene we're now going to see is the scene that happens shortly after the accident.
01:20So in this scene, I obviously need to take care of my son.
01:25There is nothing that I have to do.
01:27This is really a free choice scene.
01:32If I want, I can just sit down and do nothing.
01:35Or not take care of my son.
01:40So let's try and see if we can talk to him.
02:07Okay, let's prepare him a snack.
02:09Maybe he's going to be a bit more talkative later on.
02:12I have the choice of giving him quite a few things here, but I want to give him an apple.
02:32Again, I don't have to do this.
02:45Of course, he doesn't want to do his own work, but no, I want you to do the homework now.
03:01So you see, actions in Heavy Rain always have consequences.
03:07You can see consequences of your actions in two, three scenes after they occur.
03:14Some other consequences can be dramatic and completely change the story.
03:24So this is my office.
03:27And this is a place also where Ethan stores his memories, the memories of the happy past.
03:53This, of course, is very sad for him to watch.
03:56It reminds him of the days where everything was fine, where he lived a happy life.
04:05We have a number of emotional moments in Heavy Rain.
04:10It's a very unique scene in the game.
04:13But I would say like almost all scenes in Heavy Rain.
04:17This is what makes, I believe, Heavy Rain unique.
04:20Each scene is different.
04:22Each time a new scene starts, you don't know what is going to happen to your character.
04:28And each time, we have adapted the gameplay to the particular context of the scene.
04:33After the father and son scene, another dramatic event is going to happen.
04:37And all four characters are going to be drawn into the investigation of the origami killer case.
04:47The origami, I cannot, I don't want to spoil the story, so I can't tell you specifically the purpose of
04:55the origami.
04:56You'll see that when you play the game.
05:01We're touching upon certain themes such as the abduction of a child by a serial killer.
05:08Those are very, very serious questions.
05:12And, on the other hand, we didn't want to create a game that would shock audiences.
05:20But we wanted to tell a story for adults.
05:25In Heavy Rain, you're going to be faced with some important choices.
05:31You will have, in particular, moral choices to do.
05:34So this is really unique about this title.
05:39And, yes, it is targeted towards an adult audience.
05:44I think, personally, that game-overs are a thing of the past.
05:49Heavy Rain is not about failing or succeeding.
05:52Heavy Rain is about the journey.
05:54So it was very important for us to offer a possibility to the player.
05:59not to replay, but to continue the experience, whatever his choice is.
06:05The four playable characters can be in great danger sometimes, and sometimes they can die.
06:11But when you lose a character, this is an information that the game takes on board, but the story continues.
06:19You're not in a game-over situation. It continues.
06:23This is something that was very important to us, and I think people will greatly enjoy the fact that you
06:30never have to replay again.
06:31You just continue through your journey, and you bear the consequences of your actions.
06:37That's very important for us.
06:41There were many challenges in developing this game.
06:44Heavy Rain is, to start with, a huge game.
06:48You know, we have 60 different scenes.
06:50We have almost 55 different settings.
06:54We have more than 100 characters.
06:57So it's a massive production that necessitated quite a lot of work.
07:03I think that I would like to outline one particular challenge.
07:07It was on the characters.
07:09Just to give you an idea, we shot 170 days in our motion capture studio.
07:16That's about three motion pictures.
07:20The actors had to learn their lines by heart,
07:24because we're using a motion capture technology that enables us to capture also their eye movement.
07:30But I think, yeah, the whole team worked a lot for this production.
07:36And I must say we're quite proud of what we did so far.
07:41I think Heavy Rain is not a violent game per se.
07:45It's not a game where there is a lot of gore or sex.
07:50But nevertheless, it is an experience for adults.
07:54We wanted to have pretty much the same game everywhere, be it in Europe, in the United States or in
08:01Japan.
08:01Of course, we're slightly adapted, for instance, the Japanese version.
08:06But I don't think that the changes we've made make a big difference.
08:11Those are really marginal things where we felt the need to adapt the content to the culture.
08:18I think to a certain degree that Heavy Rain can help in this and can serve the purpose of making
08:29people understand that video games are no longer only toys.
08:35That video games can be a form of expression.
08:39The launch date of Heavy Rain has not been fixed yet.
08:42We're looking forward for a worldwide release.
08:46And I'm sure we'll be able to communicate the exact launch date very soon now.
08:51I would like to say to the Japanese audience that with Heavy Rain we're trying to create a story that
08:58is quite universal.
09:00Heavy Rain is a very different type of game, but I hope you'll be able to enjoy it.
09:05Thank you very much.
09:06Thank you very much.
