00:10Toca!
00:14Goddammit Bunko, I will leave your ass here!
00:16Nobody is leaving anybody.
00:18The subway is our only chance.
00:20We take it to Inwood, get to the evac center, and get the fuck out of New York, or we
00:25die here.
00:25World War Z is a third person multiplayer action shooter based in the World War Z movie universe.
00:31This is just a game about sitting down, having fun, and just having the crap scared out of you when
00:37you're chased by thousands of zombies.
00:42This game is really designed as a session based game.
00:45If you have 10 or 15 or 20 free minutes, you're going to want to sit down, you're going to
00:48want to play.
00:49We think it's a game people are just going to really enjoy playing with their friends or with people they
00:53meet online.
00:57Players need to cooperate to survive.
01:00And if you run off on your own or you want to be rogue, you're going to have a problem.
01:04You have to cooperate with your teammates or you'll die.
01:08As these massive numbers of enemies are coming towards you, you're raining down grenade launchers, rocket launchers, heavy machine guns,
01:15and just watching absolute carnage unfold in front of you.
01:23The origin is really just one guy's passion.
01:26It was Matt saying, I want to make this game.
01:32There's a certain scene in the movie where they are in Jerusalem and swarms of zombies climb over a wall.
01:39And when I saw that, that's when I realized that we needed to make this game.
01:42Because if we can recreate this, then we have something on our hands.
01:49I was a huge fan of the book.
01:52And so before I had seen the movie, I was already a fan of the franchise.
01:57We've taken this great source material and then pushed it in a direction that we tend to enjoy.
02:04World War Z takes place over a number of different episodes.
02:09And each of those episodes tells its own story.
02:11Each of those episodes has its own group of survivors.
02:14Most importantly, we wanted to just create characters that had their own unique vibes and personalities.
02:20One of my favorite things about demoing this game to the press is seeing their reactions the first time 500
02:25zombies come pouring off the Moscow Bridge towards them.
02:28I've heard some colorful language used to describe it.
02:31Oh my god, there's hundreds of people.
02:34As an enemy, the zombies are utterly fearless.
02:36They will throw themselves from the top of skyscrapers to get to you.
02:39They will run through fire.
02:41They will climb over burning cars.
02:42They will track the player.
02:44They will follow sound and activity.
02:47They will climb on top of each other, creating pyramids to reach you no matter where you are.
02:52You wouldn't see zombies that look like this if we didn't have the World War Z license.
02:57There are many, many, many more zombies in our game than in anything else you're going to play.
03:04What makes them different is the speed at which they appear and the way in which they operate in kind
03:08of a cohesive fashion.
03:12One thing we really focused on was the physics of these zombies.
03:17So we created our own engine called the Swarm Engine.
03:20It allows us to have 500 enemies on screen all at the same time, not just as individual AI characters,
03:27but working as a network like a school of fish or a flock of birds.
03:33All the zombies on the scene are controlled as one single entity.
03:37However, when players start to interact with zombies, individual zombies peel off from the swarm and can attack the player
03:42individually.
03:46The game understands and reacts to the skill level and the actions of the player.
03:51And so every time you play the game, the game plays out differently.
03:55The more skilled you are, the more enemies you're likely to face.
03:58The zombies aren't the only threat in the game.
04:00We also have a PvP-V-E mode where you'll be battling kind of rival human beings.
04:06But imagine in the background of that swarms of 500 zombies all pouring out to attack anything that's alive.
04:15Those swarms can be manipulated so that they can be used almost like a sword or a shield.
04:21So if I'm on one team and let's say, you know, my buddy is playing on the other team,
04:25I can project sounds or somehow direct zombie swarms toward him so that he gets distracted and then I can
04:32take him out.
04:37Saber put a lot of blood and sweat and heart and soul into making this game.
04:43We want this to be an enjoyable experience where you kill lots of zombies.
04:47Maybe this is going to sound presumptuous or crazy or ridiculous, but we think everyone will enjoy World War Z.
04:52We hope that our players will have as much fun playing the game as we had building the game.
