00:06Il primo primo di Halo 3 ODST
00:07Welcome to Halo 3 ODST
00:08The newest game in the Halo series
00:11We're going in hard!
00:14But this time, Master Chief isn't here to save the day
00:17You're a human soldier, but not just any soldier
00:20You're an orbital drop shock trooper
00:23An ODST
00:25ODSTs drop behind enemy lines
00:27From miles above the surface of a planet
00:30In this short, we follow the journey of one soldier
00:33Tarkov, from the moment he is inspired to become a soldier
00:38Through his coming of age on the battlefield
00:40And as he becomes a leader
00:43Our story begins with a military funeral
00:45Bungie, Halo's developer, collaborated with the Academy Award winning costume designer
00:50From Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers
00:52To design a Halo-style Honor Guard uniform
00:55Complete with special insignias and rank displays
01:01Legacy
01:02The studio behind movie villains like The Alien and Terminator
01:06Used 3D models created by Bungie
01:08To create accurate replicas of the same weapons, armor, and enemies that appear in the game
01:13Down to the smallest detail
01:15We had about 30 people working on this for about two weeks
01:18To go from digital files to full wearable costumes
01:21Which was a tremendous effort
01:24Fortunately, we got some help from Bungie
01:26They gave us some files
01:27And from those digital files, we have the rapid prototype
01:32Included was the game's newest weapon
01:33The silenced submachine gun
01:35They also created the special ODST armor from the shiny new version right off their assembly line
01:41To the battle-scarred version worn by the characters in the short
01:44With the same 3D models from the game
01:46They created an actual brute miner
01:48One of the game's main enemies
01:50Its facial expressions were controlled by tiny motors linked to a remote control
01:54The brute even has its signature spike rifle
01:59Paratroopers today use parachutes
02:01But 500 years from now, the parachute has been replaced by a drop pod
02:04A drop pod is a single man method of insertion
02:08So you can think of it almost as a man bomb
02:11This is the way that ODSTs insert into battle
02:14They drop in from orbit in single man pods
02:17The doors blow off and they come out fighting
02:20To replicate a drop, an interior section of a single pod was built
02:24Then the visual effects artists at Asylum
02:26Created a dizzying freefall view
02:28And Compton viewscreens to show other ODSTs
02:31And the pod's various gauges and controls
02:35But some of the biggest stars of the film were the various locations
02:38The battle scene was shot at the bottom of a strip-mining coal operation
02:42This location served as the planet where our rookie ODST has its first drop
02:46With some help from the pyrotechnic crew
02:48Asylum created the intense firefight, falling drop pods, covenant banshees
02:53And of course the climax of Tarkov's encounter with the brute
03:01For the funeral, a military cemetery was created inside the cooling tower
03:06Of an active nuclear power plant
03:10Just outside the tower, a mud pit, an obstacle wall and a razor wire course
03:15Were created to simulate ODST training
03:18Our drill instructors, actual Hungarian special forces soldiers
03:21Fired blanks as the recruits scrawled through the razor wire
03:26Finally, the chute moved to an abandoned Soviet aluminum refinery
03:29This is the location of the final battle cross memorial scene
03:33Tarkov, now older, pays his last respects to a fallen squad mate
03:37Then leads his young soldiers into battle once again
03:46We shot one additional scene on this location
03:48Which you won't see in the short
03:50In fact, you will only see it here
03:52Right now
04:19The ODST
04:23Join them and drop into hell
04:26Feet first
