00:01EA Sports. It's in the game.
00:06Hey there, I'm Tony Stanley, art director for EA Sports NFL Blitz,
00:10and I'm going to run you through art style in this Blitz 2-Minute Drill.
00:17The goal for the look of the art style was to keep a sense of familiarity of the graphics of
00:21the original Blitz game
00:21while adding a fresh new look that will appeal to gamers of today.
00:25Here we have examples of the load screens from 1999 and 2003.
00:28The very first Blitz began as an arcade game in 1997,
00:32but it was eventually ported to home consoles and spawned several sequels, as you'll see here.
00:37As you can see, there was a heavy use of metal throughout the old games,
00:40and we've taken that inspiration and put it into our game.
00:44Here you see our main menu coming through into the game.
00:47And these are the main menus from the old Blitz,
00:49and as you can see, this is our interpretation,
00:52using a lot of the metal frames, the color palettes.
00:55This one, we really went over the top and wanted the player to fill.
00:58You know, they were entering a whole new football experience.
01:01The team select.
01:02This is our inspiration for the players in our game.
01:05As you can see, they're over-the-top superhero proportions.
01:08They are ready to kick butt at any minute.
01:10Our pop-ups within the game.
01:12Our interpretation.
01:15The gameplay.
01:16Critical user feedback.
01:17Same sense of design.
01:19The score updates.
01:22Same thing.
01:23The down-and-distance updates.
01:25We took a little more liberty with this,
01:27and it's actually projected right onto the playing field.
01:29Just, you know, very similar to modern broadcast.
01:32The original stat screens.
01:33One thing you'll notice throughout our UI within the game,
01:37it moves very, very fast.
01:39A lot of metal crashing together.
01:40A lot of times you'll see sparks flying from the edges.
01:43Really brings a lot of life to the game.
01:45Our kick meter.
01:47And how we have it in our game.
01:49The play call.
01:50Quite frankly, the most important UI screen within the game.
01:53We've taken elements from both of these years
01:56and interpreted it into this.
01:59Using nine plays per team.
02:01It's very lively.
02:02It moves very quick.
02:03Gets you in and out of the game very quickly.
02:06And, of course, you would not have a Blitz game
02:09without the cheerleader load screens.
02:11And we made sure to include those in our game, too.
02:14So that's it for the Blitz 2-Minute Drill for Art and Design.
02:17Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more information on EA Sports.
02:20Oh, sweet nectar of the receiving gods!
02:23That was beautiful!
02:24Bold! Bold! Bold! Bold! Bold! Bold! Bold!
