00:00Do you think they can hear us downstairs? Four sets of holiday hosts. Look at that
00:06view man, it's beautiful. Check into each other's places. Hello, welcome to the Hotel
00:12Penzance. And get to grips with one another. So how is everyone feeling
00:16about payment day? Be nice for us all to have those conversations openly. If it's
00:21constructive. If it's constructive. Today views are aired. That sea breeze is nice.
00:26Lovely. But that noise, we're from the country. We need to look at quiet when we sleep. As they
00:31battle. Please don't hate me boys, but my worst nightmare is a pub. I'm so sorry. To be named
00:38best value for money. Ooh, a six. I'm very disappointed with that.
00:49The third visit of the week is to Weymouth in Dorset and the Angove Guest House. Owned by
00:55couple Simon Thomas and Vanessa Dolby. A pair whose relationship speaks volumes.
01:01I think our friends would say that Vanessa is a lot more outgoing and a little bit louder
01:07than I am. He's the quiet and I'm the storm. Vanessa's quiet compared to the rest of her
01:12family though. Jesus.
01:15Wow. Guests who want to turn up can pick from 11 rooms for up to £140 per night, including
01:25breakfast, based on a three-night minimum. With a free permit provided for a nearby car park
01:30and a stay that's a step back in time.
01:34The Angove is a magnificent Georgian building. It is oldie worldie charm, a traditional British
01:40B&B and we are right on the esplanade. And when it comes to the competition, the duo hope
01:46to coast the night's kip. We are a listed building with very large sash windows. So yes, they do
01:52let in the noise of the traffic, but most people get a good night's sleep. On their way are today's
01:59first guests who are arriving in style. It's nice to have my red rocket out at the seaside.
02:06Hopefully you're talking about your lovely big truck. Of course I am.
02:12Standing out from the crowd are Jordan Cave and Robin Porter of the Drayton Crown in Drayton
02:18Somerset. Last time over drinks, places were pitched.
02:22We're a proper country pub, known for real ale and just good pub grub. Awesome. We are
02:28a traditional British seaside guesthouse. Traditional guesthouse to me says it's somebody's
02:35house. I've got mixed feelings about that. I'm not a big fan. And today, Jordan and Robin
02:40are debating the destination. I've never really been to a guesthouse, but if they're living in
02:46there, do you reckon we'll catch them in the morning walking around in their dressing gowns?
02:49How did you sleep? This is it. Looks like a pretty nice guesthouse to be fair. Let's go
02:58have a little looky look. Come on then. Good morning. Good morning. And welcome to the Angove
03:03and to beautiful Weymouth. You are staying this evening in room 9. The price of your stay
03:08is £130 per night, based on a three-night stay, and that includes your breakfast.
03:13Thanks. Enjoy your stay. Thank you.
03:17Wow. Whoa. Good to have you. That is a view, isn't it?
03:21With Jordan and Robin lapping up the location, today's next guests are ready for the occasion.
03:27Way be for here we come! Woohoo!
03:32In the party mood are Louise Shaw and Dagger Drill of the Hotel Penzance in Penzance Cornwall.
03:39Earlier in the week, during an afternoon on the water, sights were set.
03:45Anyone else have an impressive view from your places?
03:48Probably one of the best in the town that we're in. We have an award-winning beach.
03:53And today, Louise and Dagger are pondering the panorama.
03:58Look at those views. They're just amazing. And I'm hoping that we have one from our room.
04:03I think they'll be amazing, don't you? Yeah.
04:08Come on, let's find it.
04:10A little bit of a walk from the car park, which is not the best.
04:13But do you know what? I'm so looking forward to getting in here.
04:16It looks beautiful. Hello. Good morning.
04:20Welcome to the Angove. You will be staying in room four.
04:24The price is £140 per night. Enjoy your stay.
04:27Thank you. Thank you ever so much.
04:30Oh, wow. This is really pretty. High ceilings, chandeliers. This is my vibe.
04:37With Louise and Dagger swinging from the rafters, today's final guests aren't fishing for compliments.
04:44There was a seal I've sent her there. I've got the right shirt on for it.
04:48Woo-hoo. It might keep you there. That's a walrus.
04:54Taking the bait are twins Sarah Woodhouse and Paula Dunn of the Horn of Plenty in Tavistock, Devon.
05:01When they hosted last time... Good morning, ladies.
05:04Welcome to the Horn of Plenty.
05:06Despite initially finding it the perfect blend...
05:09It's nice that we've got a coffee machine and coffee pods. Woo!
05:13Louise and Dagger soon gave the place a roasting.
05:17Oh, no. Look. Huge dribble stain.
05:21So, come feedback, scores slumped.
05:24And we're going for six. We're going for six.
05:26Six? Oh, dear. I'm not happy with that at all. No.
05:30And today, the twins are reviewing their response.
05:34I can't help it. I cannot be friendly to them.
05:37No, don't be frosty. Let's not be anything ourselves.
05:40But other than we are, yeah. OK?
05:42I know.
05:45Hello. Good morning. Good morning.
05:47Welcome to the Angove and beautiful Weymouth.
05:50You are staying tonight in room five.
05:52The rate is £120 a night. Enjoy your stay.
05:56Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
05:59Oh, wow. It's beautiful.
06:02I love the decor.
06:03It is just stunning.
06:06With the hosts out of the way, the guests can rove around the Angove.
06:12Pretty comfy.
06:13Yeah.
06:15Nicely scaled kettle.
06:17Clean and shiny. Clean. Yep.
06:20Not a dust or a hair in sight. No.
06:24Oh, look. A fan and a hair dryer.
06:26Two things that we definitely need in a room.
06:27Now there's vintage and there's time to replaceage.
06:32Oh!
06:33And it's got...
06:34It's...
06:34Oh, my goodness.
06:35It's filthy.
06:37Nice touch with the mini fridge.
06:39Oh, I do like these milks.
06:41These are much better than just a little packet milk.
06:44Very pleased with that indeed.
06:47It looks pretty clean.
06:48Can't complain with that.
06:50Oh, look.
06:51Oh, the dado dust.
06:54Wow.
06:55That sea breeze is nice.
06:56That is lovely.
06:57But that noise, that would be an issue for me.
07:00We're from the country.
07:01We need to look at quiet when we sleep.
07:03When we're thinking of luggage, two people for three nights,
07:06there just isn't anywhere to put the suitcase.
07:09Not ideal.
07:10Being by the seaside, I would much have preferred a sea view.
07:14Oh.
07:15Oh!
07:16Very small.
07:17Teeny, teeny.
07:18Teeny, tiny.
07:20Wow.
07:20En suite.
07:21And it's really nicely decorated, actually.
07:23Yeah.
07:23The tissue test, Dagger.
07:26Spotless.
07:26Perfect.
07:27Room inspection's almost over.
07:29Sarah and Paula are all smiles.
07:32Sarah, there's a plate here.
07:34Keep your false teeth on.
07:37Jordan and Robin are bunking up.
07:39Have you got enough room there?
07:40I do.
07:41Just about.
07:42Actually, stick to your side.
07:44We'll be all right.
07:45And for Louise and Dagger, life's a beach.
07:48Oh, wow.
07:49Look at that view.
07:50Going to go for a swim?
07:52Maybe.
07:53Good morning, toes in the water.
08:00In 1856, Weymouth Bay was the site of the world's first underwater photograph.
08:05And today, hosts Simon and Vanessa want to give their guests the full picture with a saunter by the sea.
08:13I'm quite looking forward to a little stroll along the beach.
08:15It's been quite a few years since I strolled down the beach here.
08:18I don't think I've ever walked down it, to be fair.
08:20And the tide's out, so we've got lots of beach to walk on.
08:22Yeah.
08:22And as the group take to the sand, Simon turns tour guide.
08:27The population of Weymouth is around about 60,000 in the winter and in the summer, the population of Weymouth
08:34is 250,000.
08:36Oh, my goodness.
08:36Yes.
08:37We get a lot of visitors.
08:39King George had the horse at Osmington cut into the hill.
08:43We can just see it.
08:44The story goes that it was supposed to show King George riding into Weymouth.
08:48Into Weymouth.
08:49And it was made onto the hillside the wrong way, as if he's leaving Weymouth.
08:52And there's some very interesting rumours about what happened to the guy who built it.
08:58Never knew anything about Weymouth before now.
09:01But now, it's interested me.
09:03Simon was in the front of the house.
09:05Yeah, so knowledgeable.
09:06Really good.
09:07Yeah.
09:08With personalities pleasing...
09:10I'll hold the shoes.
09:12Go on, you guys go.
09:13Come on, then.
09:14The group take the plunge.
09:16Come on, guys.
09:17It's lovely.
09:18Come on.
09:20Yeah.
09:22Can-can.
09:23Come on.
09:24Ready?
09:24Go.
09:25Da-da-da-da-da.
09:26Da-da-da-da.
09:27Higher, higher.
09:28Kick them legs up.
09:30Woo!
09:31And it seems any post-feedback feelings have been washed away.
09:40They always take it one step further.
09:43There was a nice moment between me and Dagger.
09:46That eased the tension a little bit also.
09:48I think it broke the ice a bit.
09:49Let bygones be bygones and let's just get on with it and enjoy our time.
09:54With everyone back on dry land, the guests want the inside scoop.
09:58What made you choose Weymouth?
10:00Was there family connections here or...?
10:02No, not at all.
10:03I'd done a lot of research into B&Bs and Weymouth, one of the top five sunniest places in the
10:09country.
10:09And it does have year-round trade, so it sort of became a natural choice.
10:12So was it purely a business decision then?
10:15Initially, I think, yeah.
10:17Yeah, yeah.
10:17I'd say Simon is quite savvy with his move here to Weymouth.
10:22He's definitely done his research.
10:24So, yeah, I think he's made a good move, really.
10:26Yeah.
10:27Smart business.
10:27Yeah.
10:28And with the afternoon going down a treat, it's Louise and Dagger who want seconds.
10:34Drinks this evening.
10:36I definitely want to delve a little deeper into their history together, shall I say.
10:48The third visit of the week is to Weymouth in Dorset and the Angove Guesthouse,
10:53where tonight, hosts Simon and Vanessa have invited their guests for a drink in the lounge.
10:59Cheers.
11:00And with bottoms up, Dagger wants the down low.
11:03Let's start from beginning.
11:05When did you met?
11:06So, we met online, as people do nowadays.
11:10And it was on the first date that Simon said,
11:13in the future, I would actually like to get a B&B in Weymouth.
11:17Wow.
11:17And from first date to moving in, we hadn't even known each other a year.
11:21Oh, that's nice.
11:22Wow.
11:22It took me a long time to pluck up the courage to do a profile and online dating.
11:26I had one date and thought, that'll be perfect.
11:31It literally was the first person I met.
11:33Oh, wow.
11:34And we just absolutely clicked.
11:36I actually really liked the story of how they met.
11:39It was just really lovely.
11:41I reckon you've seen the profile, slid in them DMs and said,
11:45want to come in a way, Beethat?
11:48Love story told.
11:50Dagger's back to business.
11:51Yes.
11:51Do you have any funny stories with your guests?
11:54We had a group of ladies come in and one of them decided to graffiti on the walls.
11:59Oh.
12:00Like, just under a mirror or just down the side of something else.
12:04You know, she was in her 60s, mid-60s.
12:08Exactly.
12:09For me, the lady came and talked to me because she wasn't happy of the...
12:17Tide.
12:18Tide?
12:19Tide.
12:20Yeah.
12:21But she wasn't happy because it didn't work with her.
12:24And she was serious.
12:28Everybody's been really nice to each other today and like, definitely more tight-knit as a group.
12:34So maybe that's all going to come to a head on payment day instead.
12:38Yeah.
12:38If you didn't work in hospitality, what would be your dream job?
12:43I always wanted to be a prima ballerina.
12:48Well, that's still achievable.
12:50No, it's not, is it? Not anymore, no.
12:53Probably a commercial airline pilot.
12:55Oh, really? Oh, wow.
12:57I quite like the outfit.
13:03He wants to be suave, he wants to be the pilot.
13:05He wants to give the eyebrow, hey, I'm a pilot.
13:08That's the good reason. I think they're going to be amazing hosts.
13:11I can't wait, honestly, I can't wait to go to their place.
13:15With expectations raised, it's all up to bed.
13:18Good night, sweetheart. Night, Duke.
13:25The sun is up in Weymouth and the guests are rising and shining.
13:30I slept really well last night.
13:31The mattress is so comfortable, isn't it?
13:34It's just brilliant.
13:35But they're not all bright-eyed.
13:38I slept fine through Fair.
13:39I was just out like a light.
13:41Really comfy bed, comfy pillows and stuff, but I was a bit hot.
13:45I couldn't open the window because all of that road noise.
13:50Back in the guest house, breakfast is underway.
13:53I do the cooking, Simon takes the orders and does the serving.
13:57We have local produce, we use the Fantastic Sausage Man in town.
14:01You know, we'll start the day well with some amazing breakfast.
14:05And with everyone seated...
14:07This looks nice.
14:08...Simon's out with a warm welcome.
14:10Good morning, everybody.
14:11Good morning.
14:12What can I get you this morning?
14:14I'll go for the full English as it comes.
14:16The full English with fried eggs, please.
14:18Full English with poached eggs.
14:20OK.
14:20Thank you very much.
14:22And with orders passed over...
14:24We've got six fulls, all fried, one's poached.
14:27It's the angove that's on the menu.
14:29I'm not going to lie, I was not overly excited about coming to a guest house,
14:33but this place is really, really nice.
14:35You can tell they've put their heart and soul into the place.
14:37There's no detail that's been missed whatsoever, is there?
14:40Exactly.
14:41I've stayed at quite a few guest houses over the years,
14:43and this one is a top-quality guest house to me.
14:47I was literally dreading coming here when I found out we were coming to a guest house,
14:51but this place is really well done,
14:53and Simon and Vanessa have been great hosts.
14:55With reviews glowing, back in the kitchen, grubs up.
14:59Full with the fried.
15:01Oh, lovely.
15:02A full English for you.
15:04Thank you very much, Simon.
15:05Thank you, Simon.
15:06Looks like a good egg from a good egg.
15:09It certainly does.
15:10My egg's perfect.
15:11Is it?
15:12Mmm.
15:12Looks it.
15:15It's a good quality.
15:17Egg's perfect.
15:18Everything else for me, yummy.
15:20I think, for the price of our rooms, this breakfast is incredible.
15:24I really enjoyed breakfast this morning.
15:26Simon did a really good job of hosting.
15:28He truly did, yes.
15:29Breakfast to perfection.
15:31Just to play devil's advocate,
15:32you can tell it's been cooked by a cook, not a chef.
15:35The bacon could do with a little bit longer.
15:37The fat's not quite rendered.
15:38The mushrooms, I'd like them personally a little bit more cooked.
15:41But it's all really tasty ingredients,
15:43and the sausage, in my opinion, is delicious.
15:47I'm not taking away from the quality of the ingredients at all.
15:50It was very well done.
15:52It's just little things that hopefully she can pick up on
15:54and take that as constructive feedback
15:56and make herself better in the long run.
16:00Food chewed over.
16:01Jordan's in the holiday mood.
16:03What would everyone's nightmare night away be?
16:06Oh, mine would be in a tent.
16:08The thought of a camp bed.
16:09No, sorry.
16:11I'm up for anything, as long as you can keep your clothes on.
16:14Yes, definitely.
16:16Please don't hate me, boys.
16:17But my worst nightmare is a pub.
16:20I'm so sorry.
16:21What is a pub that frightens you or you dislike?
16:24It's just the smell of stale ale and the noise.
16:30We're going to change your opinion on the pubs.
16:32I know that.
16:33OK.
16:34For a fact.
16:35I am hoping that the boys will change my mind.
16:39Do you know, after what they said, I think they will.
16:42I'm hopeful.
16:44Universe prevail, universe prevail.
16:46Breakfast done.
16:47The guests head back to their rooms
16:49to complete their anonymous feedback forms.
16:51How were your hosts at the Angove Guesthouse?
16:56Simon was very good with his knowledge yesterday.
16:59Great hosts.
17:00Ten, definitely ten.
17:02Definitely.
17:03Just all-round great hosts, really.
17:04Yeah, I don't think you can say more than that, really.
17:07Got to be a ten.
17:07Yeah, totally agree.
17:09How clean was the Angove Guesthouse?
17:14Spotless.
17:15Toilet.
17:16Passed my tissue test.
17:18There were a few issues.
17:20Bin very dirty.
17:22Dust on dado rail.
17:26I think solid eight.
17:28Yeah.
17:29OK.
17:30How were the facilities?
17:32We'll say.
17:33Exceptional decor.
17:35Absolutely.
17:36The only minor criticism was that we didn't have a sea view.
17:40How would we score?
17:42I think a nine.
17:43A nine.
17:44Beautiful sea view.
17:46Parking distance, a problem.
17:48And then we have the tiny bathroom.
17:50Lack of storage.
17:52What do you think?
17:53Seven?
17:54Seven.
17:54Yeah.
17:56So how did you sleep?
17:57I didn't sleep well, but you did.
17:59One of us slept well.
18:01The other didn't.
18:02I didn't feel like I could open the window because of traffic noise.
18:06I personally think it should be a six.
18:08OK.
18:09The bed was exceptionally comfortable.
18:11It was.
18:12I think we should do this at ten.
18:14Yes.
18:14How was breakfast?
18:16For a guest house, it was really good.
18:18There's a few little tweaks that I would have made.
18:20A couple tweaks to make perfect.
18:22I think we should give them an eight.
18:23Yeah.
18:25Cooked and served to perfection.
18:27So I would say ten.
18:29Ten.
18:29So final question.
18:31Would you stay here again?
18:33Yes.
18:34So it would be a no from me.
18:36Oh, I had a great sleep, so I'm going to go yes.
18:39With the small bathroom.
18:40And the parking is a real problem for me.
18:43It's going to have to be a no.
18:46Now the guests must pay what they think their stay was worth.
18:49I think they'd be more than happy with that.
18:51The cash will be kept secret until the end of the competition.
18:55But for now, Simon and Vanessa can see if the Angove was a treasure trove.
19:01How were the facilities?
19:03So we've got a nine for that, so that's fantastic.
19:05That is amazing.
19:07Exceptional decor.
19:08Brilliant.
19:08Would have preferred a sea view.
19:10We would love to have all sea view rooms.
19:12But we have a lot of rooms that are at the back of the property.
19:14How did you sleep?
19:16Oh, it's a ten.
19:17Another excellent score.
19:18They're saying exceptionally comfortable.
19:20They are comfortable because we actually have the same mattress on our own bed.
19:25How was breakfast?
19:27It's another ten.
19:28Oh, fantastic.
19:29I'm very pleased with that.
19:31Cooked and served to perfection.
19:33To perfection.
19:33So you did a fantastic job serving then.
19:36And you did a fantastic job cooking.
19:38Brilliant.
19:39Thank you for a lovely stay.
19:41Let's find out if they would stay again.
19:43Oh.
19:44It's a yes.
19:44It's a yes.
19:45Fantastic.
19:46Really couldn't do much better than that.
19:48So let's see what the next couple think.
19:51How were your hosts at the Angove Guest House?
19:54It's a ten.
19:54You know, we couldn't ask for more.
19:56Knowledgeable and great hosts.
19:58Very, very pleased.
20:00How clean was the Angove Guest House?
20:02Eight.
20:03We'll definitely take an eight.
20:05Spotless toilet.
20:06Passed the tissue test.
20:08Really pleased our toilet passed the tissue test.
20:10Been very dirty.
20:12Maybe we just missed wiping that out.
20:15Dust on the dado rail.
20:16I imagine that's just one section.
20:19How were the facilities?
20:20Oh, we've got seven.
20:21It's our lowest score so far.
20:23Beautiful sea view.
20:24Okay, yes.
20:26Parking distance, a problem.
20:27It's a problem for nearly all the B&Bs in Weymouth.
20:30Tiny bathroom.
20:32It's very cosy.
20:33We know that.
20:34We are constrained by the building, the listed status.
20:37Lack of storage.
20:38Two bedside cabinets, a chest of drawers and the wardrobe.
20:43I'm not really sure what storage they require.
20:45Thank you for having us.
20:47It was a lovely stay.
20:49Would you stay here again?
20:50No.
20:51No.
20:51Wow.
20:52Surprising.
20:53I am actually gobsmacked.
20:56So, on to the last couple.
20:58How were your hosts at the Angove Guest House?
21:00We scored a ten.
21:02Excellent.
21:03Yeah, that's good.
21:04Great hosts.
21:05That sums it all up.
21:06How did you sleep?
21:07Ooh, a six.
21:08I'm very disappointed with that.
21:10One of us slept well, the other didn't.
21:12Maybe one was snoring.
21:15Didn't open window because of traffic noise.
21:18I can't imagine there's that much traffic noise throughout the night.
21:21So, I think a six is extremely low.
21:26How was breakfast?
21:27We've got an eight.
21:27An eight.
21:28So, that's fantastic.
21:29Yeah.
21:29Yeah, it's a very good score.
21:30Really good.
21:31Couple tweaks to make perfect.
21:34Ooh.
21:34It is.
21:35We never get any complaints.
21:36Thank you for a lovely stay.
21:38Glad you've enjoyed it.
21:39Bye.
21:39So, we've had one of each.
21:42Let's find out if they'd stay again.
21:44Yes.
21:45Yay!
21:46That is good news.
21:48Two out of three.
21:49That's not bad.
21:50I'm absolutely over the moon with the scores.
21:52Such positive feedback.
21:54The hard part's over.
21:55Now we can relax and go and visit Robin and Jordan and have a bevy at the boozer.
22:01Next time at Robin and Jordan's place.
22:04Good morning.
22:05Welcome to the Drayton Crown.
22:06The group get up to speed.
22:08Welcome to Concord.
22:10Wow.
22:10Can you imagine doing 1,300 miles an hour in this?
22:13And family matters.
22:15I swear I didn't realise that you're twins.
22:17You thought Paul was my mum, didn't you?
22:20You thought Paul was my mum, didn't you?
22:48I swear I didn't.
22:48I swear I didn't.
22:48I swear I didn't.
22:48I swear I didn't.
22:48I swear I didn't.
22:49I swear I didn't.
22:49You
