Il nuovo gioco di Riddick in sviluppo presso Starbreeze per PC, PS3 e Xbox 360, pubblicato da Atari. The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena contiene anche una ri-edizione modificata dell'originale Escape from Butcher Bay.

00:11Time stops. I sleep for hours, days, weeks. And when I finally awake, I'm still a creature of the dark.
00:25Riddick's always been tightly connected to Starburst.
00:28We had done a few games before that, but Riddick came out and left Starburst from being a pretty
00:34unknown developer to being a world-known developer. So we feel very tightly connected to this brand
00:40and franchise. It fits our mood, fits our style of gameplay. We want to make games that the
00:47player feels like I'm actually part of this.
00:51Fishback made a pretty big impact. It was a strong character and it was a sci-fi movie
00:56that was kind of a bit different. It wasn't that high sci-fi. It was a little more gritty
01:02and low-tech.
01:03It's really down to earth. Everything looks like it has been in use for a long time and
01:08that it can take a lot of punishment. It's very hardcore.
01:14Riddick is a lone wolf. He's doing his own thing. You don't know why. And that's kind of intriguing.
01:20I think that's something that most players want to know more about, but we haven't told
01:24more. We had this unique blend with stealth, action, storytelling, a little RPG even. It was
01:33emotional rollercoaster. Suddenly you had a weapon, you're running around, gunning everyone, and then
01:38you got caught and you're back trying to sneak around. I gotta get a weapon again.
01:43People really liked it and word of mouth spread and a lot of people have played it, but it's
01:47not backwards compatible on the 360. And we had this opportunity to release it again. Maybe, you know,
01:54high resolution, add a few textures and address all of these niggling issues. Not only because our
02:00hardware is better, we can add a lot more geometry. We also learned a lot of things over the years
02:05that we can apply now. It feels like going back to something that was in a very good shape
02:10and adding extra love. So we've gone through all levels, redetailed them, made them look better.
02:17So for players that hasn't played Butcher Bay, it's a game that looks 2009. And for the players that
02:22have played Butcher Bay back in the day, it's going to be worth the revisit because we have done a
02:26lot there.
02:27We first thought about extending the Butcher Bay campaign a bit more, but then realized that
02:31that would feel tacked on. So we started instead with a small, small chapter at the end, just a few
02:37levels.
02:38As the project progressed, we felt that we want to add more to this. Then we were up to three,
02:43four hours playtime, and we felt that we need more. We need more again.
02:49Luckily, we hadn't recorded story. We hadn't cast characters for the roles. So we were pretty free to expand the
02:54story
02:55and grabbing more content there. The Dark Athena took off from there and became something really, really big.
03:01We see Dark Athena as the next chapter in the saga about Riddick.
03:06We have built upon the last game, of course. Everything that we have worked on for Athena,
03:11every AI improvement, Riddick character, movement, navigation, everything, just really, really impressive.
03:18Seeing all of these things that we've learned over the years and tying that into a cohesive whole
03:23not only strengthens the old game, but we have this new game that's really cool. That's really exciting.
