00:11Hey everybody, Chris Kale here, Game Director on DC Universe Online.
00:15Today we're taking a look at alerts,
00:17and Area 51, the first alert in the game.
00:20Alerts are instant action, quick grouping
00:23where you jump in with heroes or villains
00:25to face one of the many challenges
00:27that is attacking Earth at any given time.
00:29Today, we're looking at Area 51.
00:32This is, of course, the famous secret military base
00:35where all sorts of odd things happen.
00:37In the DC Universe, an organization called Cadmus
00:40owns and runs this and takes all sorts of alien technology there
00:44for their own diabolical plans.
00:46The problem is Brainiac, who is attacking Earth itself,
00:49has decided that he wants to take out Area 51
00:52as it represents one of the last strongholds
00:54defending against him.
00:55and he wants to take over the kryptonite
00:58that they have stockpiled here
00:59so he can use it against Superman and Superman's allies.
01:04Once you've broken into Area 51 and established a beachhead,
01:07now it's time to move further and to save the rest of the base.
01:13You're gonna have to protect the Cadmus scientists and troops
01:15who are trying to teleport in more forces to help you out.
01:18The more you protect them,
01:19the more you use your tactics to defend the area,
01:22and this is where the fight for the command center comes in.
01:24Here you'll be defeating Brainiac's own troops and hacking them to work for you
01:29while you switch consoles and turn the automated defenses to your own end.
01:34Remember again, this is about coordination and cooperation.
01:37If you don't work together, Brainiac will win.
01:39Now you've taken the base back. Area 51 is under Cadmus control,
01:43but the Brainiac harvester ship still hovers over the kryptonite site.
01:47So you've got to get in there and fight the great accumulators
01:50and other prime forces that Brainiac has arrayed
01:53and see if you've got what it takes to take them down,
01:55transport the kryptonite safely to a bunker,
01:58and then assault the ship itself.
02:03You can't simply just smash everything with damage.
02:06You are going to have to heal. You are going to have to tank.
02:08You are going to have to control in order to fight your way through this fight
02:12and defeat the boss.
02:17So there you go. A first look at Area 51.
02:20The very first alert you get to take on as a hero or villain in DC Universe Online.
