00:06As you know, LittleBigPlanet was a very ambitious game for our small team.
00:11It focused on Sackboy playing through a simple platform of story
00:16which introduced the world to play, create and share.
00:22So in LittleBigPlanet 2 we're staying true to that ethos of play, create and share.
00:26But we're also, as you may have seen in the announcement trailer,
00:30massively expanding all of these areas,
00:32adding features like the Sackbot non-player characters
00:36or character enhancements like the grapple hook,
00:39creative features from filmmaking tools to the six-axis direct control seat,
00:44as well as a load of new community and share features that integrate with the web.
00:48But in the end, all of this just comes down to one thing, making fun games.
00:52And now you can make any kind. It's a true platform for games.
00:56Whether you want to make an RTS, an RPG, a puzzle, a racing game, or even a shooter.
01:02So today we're going to focus on that breadth and the new competitive scoring modes
01:06which we showcase how easy it is to bring competition into LittleBigPlanet.
01:12I'd like to show you, with the help of my friends here,
01:15some examples we've just picked out for you live on stage.
01:19First up, we have Super Block Race.
01:22This is a super simple dexterity minigame.
01:25And it starts our Sackboy racing to match the fallen blocks by pressing the X and O face buttons.
01:31Using direct control, you can create any mapping from the six-axis controller to the gameplay.
01:37The time penalty for getting a mistake is balanced by the creator
01:42and it's actually hiding a great depth to the gameplay.
01:45It was a great way to create a simple piece of gameplay mechanic
01:49with just a few physical tools that you'll be familiar with if you've ever used Poppet in LittleBigPlanet 1.
01:56With the new competitive scoring, each player gets their own score which can be set by the creator.
02:02And at the end of the level, here in two seconds, you get presented with a neat map so that
02:07the winner can celebrate in style.
02:10So next up, we have Crashy Crash.
02:14It's a kind of top-down, sports, sumo...
02:20And in this level, these guys are just trying to bump each other out of the ring.
02:24So what the creator's done here is add X and map it to give a boost, which adds an element
02:29to strategy.
02:30Again, it's a really simple game mechanic that was great fun to create using the physical tools.
02:36This level also showcases, for those creators out there, the mover objects,
02:40which allow you to attach them to any piece of the world and make it move exactly how you want,
02:46ranging from the central spawn point, which moves objects between layers,
02:50to any kind of motion that you can imagine.
02:54Once again, at the end of the level, you get a neat grid showing who did what to who,
02:59and who's the ultimate winner.
03:03Lastly, I'd like to introduce you to the glorious chaos of multiplayer competitive action in this Rocket Arena level.
03:09This is actually the easiest one to build, simply placing objects in the world, setting gravity to low,
03:15and using a new character enhancement called the Creatonator.
03:19So, players out there who've played LittleBigPlanet will be soaking up all of the new features here,
03:24but the Creatonator is a hat which you put on Sackboy and you can set to emit any object,
03:29from cows, to flowers, to rockets in this case.
03:34I think, let's see who's doing the best.
03:36Come on, Green, you're on zero, no point.
03:40Keep going.
03:41In the background, you see the holographic material that's been used by many of our creators
03:45to create heads-up displays and things like that.
03:49In online, if you use a competitive mode, each PS3 gets its own camera,
03:54so it would be really easy to make a gigantic scrolling level in LittleBigPlanet 2.
04:00So, to wrap up, I'd just like to show you some footage of the kind of gameplay that
04:04you can expect in LittleBigPlanet 2.
04:06because when we were creating these tools, really we wondered, what will the breadth be?
04:10We'll stay true to the platforming at the heart of LittleBigPlanet.
04:13So, what we did was invite some of the top creators down to the Media Molecule offices,
04:18and we just gave them 24 hours to run wild with the new tools.
04:23We did not give them any tuition or any help.
04:27They'd seen nothing.
04:27And this is all unedited footage created in one night by some guys,
04:33ranging from a kind of gallery shooter here.
04:35Sackboy is doing way more than just platforming.
04:42There were tons of different kinds of levels,
04:44and we've carried this breadth all the way through to the story mode in LittleBigPlanet 2,
04:49ranging from top-down racing games with AI characters,
04:53and even, in one instance, a full real-time strategy game with multiple units,
04:59unit creation, path-binding, psychedelic 3D shooter,
05:03which takes place at the end of one of the boss fights in the game.
05:07What you just saw was an example of the breadth of the in-game tools,
05:11the things that we use at Media Molecule and which our fans and our creators use also,
05:15ranging from custom HUDs to all of those features in the RTS.
05:18It's super easy, and it looks beautiful.
05:20With LittleBigPlanet 2, the breadth and the possibilities are endless.
05:24You can make any kind of game you can imagine.
05:27It's truly a platform for games.
05:29Thank you for your attention.
