00:31Okay, so let's dive right in and take a look at Silent Cartographer.
00:35This is exactly the same demonstration we gave to the press at E3.
00:38In fact, this is exactly the same build.
00:40So the exciting thing is that this build has come a really long way since we showed this at E3.
00:45It's kind of funny for me to look at it now and say, hey, the game looks much better now.
00:49So the first thing you're going to see immediately on the fly in is the graphical upgrade.
00:53I mean, the game looks fantastic.
00:54We spent a lot of time really lovingly bringing this into the current generation
00:58and, you know, working very hard to make sure that this looks like a current generation title.
01:03Something everyone can look at and just say, wow, this game looks fantastic.
01:06But the big test is really how does it feel.
01:08So let's take a look.
01:09So we're going to charge the beach here.
01:11First thing you're going to get a taste of when you pick up this game and start playing
01:14is that this plays exactly like the original.
01:17That was a core development principle for us is this game needed to play exactly the way it did 10
01:22years ago.
01:22I mean, this is the game that launched a generation of shooters.
01:26So we had to make sure that that feeling was identical to that experience that everybody remembered 10 years ago
01:31because this is really a gift to the fans.
01:32This is a way to relive the experience of playing Halo 1 for the first time.
01:36So we really wanted to make sure it was identical.
01:38And the way we did that was actually a fun technical trick.
01:41We're actually running portions of two engines at the same time.
01:44So the underlying code, the code controlling how the game feels, how the AI reacts, all of that stuff,
01:49a lot of it's the original Halo 1 code.
01:51And that was really the best way for us to ensure that the game played exactly the same as it
01:54did 10 years ago.
01:56But on top of that, we've layered a new graphics engine that allows us to, you know,
02:00make the game look fantastic and look like a current generation title.
02:03So it's really a great mix of the two.
02:05So at the end of the day, you know, your Halo fan gets a game that plays exactly like they
02:08remember
02:08but looks like a current generation title.
02:11We get some other benefits from this as well.
02:13You know, as I said earlier, and I say this all the time,
02:16the primary goal for this game is to make sure Halo fans can relive the experience
02:19of what it was like to play 10 years ago.
02:21And one of the big tools we have in our box through that is classic mode.
02:25So what's classic mode?
02:26At the touch of a button, you can swap back and see how the game looked 10 years ago.
02:30So here it is.
02:32This is, you know, Halo 1 10 years ago.
02:34And it's really a magical feature for Halo fans because this just lets you go back in time
02:39and see exactly how this game looked 10 years ago.
02:41But the fun part is you can come back at any time.
02:43So classic mode gives you the ability to go back and forth whenever you want at the campaign.
02:47So one of the things that's fun to do is get out to a spot like this that, you know,
02:50just looks beautiful.
02:51You've got the water, the sun reflecting over it, the halo ring in the background and say,
02:55hey, what did this look like 10 years ago?
02:57Touch a button and there it is, right?
02:59I mean, it's really, really, really a lot of fun to go back and forth between the two modes.
03:03And this is something I'd personally get the most excited about.
03:05And I think, you know, the fans are really going to love it too.
03:08This was definitely a big win at E3.
03:10As you can see, the other benefits you get from the new version is you've got the splash effects,
03:13the dust effects as you get back onto the beach.
03:16The game just looks great.
03:17The other thing that's fantastic is for the first time, you know, we're going to have co-op over live
03:21for the campaign.
03:22So you can hop onto the Warthog with a buddy and just plow through this game and, you know,
03:26start mowing down grunts and elites and, you know, just team up with a friend.
03:29Get on, you know, hook up on live and play through the campaign together.
03:33And, you know, we think people are really going to love that too.
03:35I often say, what would Halo 1 be without the Magnum?
03:38And, you know, of course the Magnum's back.
03:40Everyone remembers that fantastically overpowered pistol that just enabled you to walk through
03:44and just mow through hordes of enemies.
03:47Tremendous amount of fun.
03:48So, you know, we're excited to bring that back as well.
03:50Again, you know, you can see the game plays exactly the same as it did.
03:53Cannot highlight that enough.
03:54That was really, really important for us to make sure that this game played the same as it did
03:58because this is really an iconic game.
03:59This is the game that convinced a lot of people, myself included,
04:03that you could actually have a fun first-person shooter experience on the console.
04:06I mean, I was a hardcore PC shooter guy, you know,
04:09who said, you're never going to make a game on the console that is going to, you know,
04:12make me want to play.
04:12And this is the game that changed my, you know, my impression of it.
04:15And it's the same for millions of Halo fans.
04:17And those fans, that's who this game is for, you know.
04:20This game is really a labor of love for us here at 343.
04:23And we're really excited to be able to present it to you.
