00:00Why are we here today?
00:01Well today is an exciting day for the future of Warrawong Parklands.
00:05The Minns Government took to the election a commitment not only to stop the sale of
00:10this great public space but also to develop a master plan and start to invest in its future.
00:15Today we can reveal that that master plan has been finalised and the work is set to
00:21get underway.
00:22The master plan for this 32 hectare site involves nearly 10 kilometres of walking and
00:28cycling paths, accessible playgrounds, better interaction between the lake and the foreshore
00:35land, an Olympic quality and Olympic sized skate park facility as well as investment in nature.
00:42There will be thousands and thousands of plants planted as part of this as we seek to develop
00:48this and realise the potential of this space.
00:51This is a really exciting development for residents living around Lake Illawarra, particularly
00:58on the northern foreshore.
00:59I have to commend Minister Scully for the way that he's opened up the opportunity for community
01:05consultation about this project.
01:08The community has been involved from day one and right through the process.
01:12It's been a really educative involvement for the community representatives here and the
01:18Government's been really open to the ideas from local people.
01:23It's particularly important that the development here opens up opportunities for the site to
01:30be used by people from all sorts of socio-economic backgrounds.
01:34So there's ability here for people to kayak, to swim, to use the cycleway and importantly to
01:42use the new skate park that's been developed here.
01:44So it's been a great opportunity, fantastic community involvement and we really look forward
01:49to seeing the Master Plan turned into an exciting place for people all over the Illawarra to
01:56come and visit.
