00:03All right, so this is your community manager, Neil Gortz. To my right is Sam, better known to the world
00:08as...
00:10Taking a drink of water, Sam Conisby. Water drinker. Water drinker. Sorry, water. Water. Water.
00:20Okay, all right. And we are here playing... Oh, smack the can away. We are here playing Devil May Cry.
00:29We are playing the Underwatch section of the demo, which is dropping on November 20th for Xbox.
00:38Is it 20th or 30th? 20th. Sure it's 20th? Yeah.
00:42Well, you don't want to tell whoever's doing the tweeting over in Ninja Theory to sort themselves out.
00:48So, we're playing part of the Underwatch demo. It's one of three levels that's going to be available on the
00:52demo.
00:54Chances are you'll have seen a fair bit of this one before. Sam and I have played it before. I've
00:59played it a lot.
01:00Sam is controlling this on the PS3 just now. And yeah, it's part of one of three.
01:06We didn't want to spoil the extra level that's coming packed with it.
01:09If you were lucky enough to see this demo at Eurogamer or Gamescom...
01:14It's got Mega Man in it. It's not got Mega Man in it. It's not.
01:19But you'll have seen two levels already. This is slightly tweaked from what's been out there already graphically.
01:26A couple of moves and weapons have been thrown in, but you can discover that for yourself.
01:32Right, and so Sam is now ready to take on the demonic chords. Sam, let me start with perhaps an
01:40unpopular question.
01:43What did you dislike about this demo to start with?
01:48Not a lot. I mean, I've played it before. It has gotten a little bit better and a little bit
01:54tighter since the last time I played it.
01:56It's certainly a lot crisper. It looks a lot nicer.
01:59But they've left this letter up in the corner. I understand that the letter rating system is very popular with
02:06people who play these sort of games.
02:08But if I'm honest, I don't like a constant reminder of how I'm not doing as well as I could
02:14be doing at the game.
02:16Tell me at the end of the level, fine. Let me know. You know, you didn't do so hot on
02:20that one. Let's move on. Let's play the next level and see how you get on.
02:23But to have a letter constantly berating me for not tying together the combos that it thinks I should, I
02:32found that quite annoying.
02:33But that's just me. It's probably one of the main selling points of the game, which makes it something you
02:39probably don't want me to point out.
02:41It's fine. It's a popular feature. It's a returning feature from previous Devil May Cry games. I think we should
02:46offer anyone who's subjected themselves to this video full disclosure that we're not the best gamers.
02:54We're not bad.
02:56It depends what the game is.
03:00What games are you good at?
03:01What games am I good at? Most of them.
03:03But when it comes to third person action.
03:08When it comes to third person action that doesn't involve guns, those are normally, probably like sword and shield stuff.
03:19I can't, I don't, combo, that's it. Combo based games are the ones that I'm not very good at.
03:23Most other things, I get one alright. I can figure it out and do pretty well.
03:29But, combo based games, it's the same with beat em ups.
03:33Yeah.
03:34So, again, probably something that I shouldn't be going on about on Capcom's community page.
03:42Who will soon be crafting Sam Connorsby statues of figures for hate.
03:50A combo, like, so beat em ups.
03:54I like what you're doing with the camera here, sorry. UFC.
03:56Mad skills, that's why.
03:58I've been capturing games for many years, yeah.
04:02Yeah, anyway, combo games, beat em ups, UFC, things like that, I really like and I'm really good at.
04:10But, your Street Fighters, your Marvel vs Capcoms, your combo based beat em up games, I look like...
04:19I feel like a summoner's laying a dying salmon over a controller, that's what I look like playing Street Fighter.
04:26Alright, but it would be fair to say that any game that relies so heavily on combos and hacking and
04:32slashing...
04:33I've still had a good time. So, that says a lot about Devil May Cry.
04:37Despite, you'll notice the letter's not showing up here, that's, that is taking a bit of sympathy.
04:43Finally, it's gone. Nah, let's not, let's not keep rubbing it in, that's harsh.
04:50But, I thought I was doing pretty well. As long as the letter wasn't there, rubbing it in, I thought
04:55I was doing alright.
04:56But then the letter shows up again, and it's just saying, look, yeah, it's dirty, well done, you're doing well,
05:01but your knocks is a D.
05:04Yeah.
05:05It's alright.
05:06For people who are new to DMC, and bearing in mind it's a good jumping in point, like yourself, I'm
05:13going to say you weren't a Devil May Cry fan beforehand.
05:16No, not, I played the first one, and thought, it's alright.
05:25I understand I'm alienating myself from a lot of people.
05:29Given, given that the first one was alright, how would you, I guess we can't really convince people, at this
05:36point, there's a demo out, there's a demo dropping in mere days of you watching this video.
05:41Yeah.
05:42Play it, you owe it to yourself to play it, draw your own conclusions, and then most importantly, feed it
05:47back to us.
05:48Unless your internet's really bad, what do they do then?
05:52Play it around a mate's house.
05:53Play it around a mate's house.
05:54And then let us know, let us know what you think.
05:56I think all feedback's important, all feedback gets read, even that feedback.
06:01Well, it's been shown, especially in Devil May Cry, because they've actually taken previous feedback and put it into the
06:10game.
06:11Yeah.
06:12Yeah.
06:12So, play it for yourself, let us know your thoughts.
06:17I was kind of hoping you would be able to bash these little angel things, these baby faced angels, because
06:24we've done it before.
06:25They tend to come in a two.
06:27We got so high, on the last version of this demo, we got so high, that the camera actually zooms
06:32out, and you can't even really see Dante or the enemies anymore.
06:37You just get sort of an overview of the city.
06:39They were just pinpricks in the sky.
06:41Yeah.
06:42And then, I did say pricks.
06:46And then, this time out, we tried to do it, and later on I think you see that I got
06:53reasonably high, but for so they were just flying off, almost as if they were scared of getting thrown into
07:01the sky.
07:01Which surprised me, considering that they were flying enemies.
07:05It's almost as if they've taken feedback of the previous demo, and tweaked it, so they're harder to fight.
07:12Don't...
07:13What?
07:14You've just blown your mind.
07:15So, the developers listened to the fans, and then actively responded to make their game more appealing to them.
07:27It does happen.
07:28I think anyone that played the Resi 6 demo will attest that by the time the retail rolled out, there
07:34have been significant changes, and there's still significant changes rolling out across Resi.
07:39Yeah, but Resi 6 was the tits, so I don't think...
07:44I mean, there's, oh, look at this demo that we finished six months ago, and we're now just sort of
07:49letting you play because we've gotten around to it.
07:50And then a finished game of that scale.
07:54Yeah, Resi 6 was awesome, and I challenge any man, woman, or child who thinks otherwise to a flintlock pistol
08:04duel atop the Hammersmith flyover at daybreak on the day of your choosing.
08:12Your Doritos and Mountain Dew will be delivered to your trailer now.
08:16You just activated the Devil Trigger there. Explain to the boys and girls at home what happens when you activate
08:23Devil Trigger.
08:25Right, the Devil Trigger is when Dante gets his white hair back, and I assume was a mode added by
08:33Ninja Theory in response to all that fuss over his haircut.
08:43It actually was, and it was actually in there to begin with.
08:46It was in there to begin with.
08:47Yeah, it's to sort of signify and include you into the direction that Dante is going, basically how he gets
08:54from this Dante that we don't know to the Dante that we do.
08:59Right, well it's pretty cool anyway because the screen goes all white and red and stuff and everyone floats up
09:05in the air and you...
09:06Bring the pain.
09:07You hit them like you have done for the rest of the game, but it just sort of looks a
09:11bit nicer and it's made a little bit easier because you're a bit stronger and they're, rather than hitting you
09:17back and jumping around all over the place, they're just sort of floated motionless in the air.
09:23In your face demons.
09:25In your face.
09:26In your face.
09:27You probably wanted to bring someone around who played any of the earlier Devil May Cry games before doing this
09:34particular commentary.
09:35Not necessarily, not necessarily because DMC Devil May Cry is meant as a jumping in period for people of the
09:43franchise.
09:44Obviously we've got our fans, our very vocal fans.
09:48Hello there down below in the comments.
09:50Oh yeah.
09:51We've got a little thing coming up for you later.
09:53Well no, the fans were alright, but you'll see.
09:56So we've got them, which is awesome, but the franchise really needs some new blood.
10:03So rather than making DMC 5, Capcom shopped about seeing what would happen if we made a sort of DMC
10:10movie, how would that look?
10:14And it turns out that this point here, the trick isn't to do the little demon dash thing, it's just
10:19double jump.
10:21And as you can see from my amazing gaming skills, that only took me three goes to figure that out.
10:27You got a bit overconfident with your demonic powers.
10:30Yeah.
10:30They do that, demonic powers.
10:33You know, when you're plucking eyeballs from across streets and punching them out on rooftops, you tend to get a
10:40little bit carried away.
10:41Here they are, this is the bit where I think I got quite high in this bit.
10:45Let's find out.
10:49For those at home, judging distance by purely vision, the ceiling for this level is about 500 feet relatively.
11:00And as you can see, we're clearly about 350 feet up in the air at the moment, right?
11:05Give or take.
11:06Tell them they'll believe it.
11:07Alright, you're about 350 feet.
11:09There we go, now I'm down to 100 feet.
11:11We've got much higher than that before.
11:14Yeah, no, I mean that was, that was maybe, to put that into context, what was that?
11:19Maybe 40 feet?
11:21Maybe?
11:24That said, you're going to have the demo yourself soon, so if you can get a video going even higher
11:29than that.
11:29You're never getting higher than that.
11:31You're never getting 500 feet.
11:33I can say that to anyone setting out to play this demo.
11:36You're never getting 500 feet.
11:38And I will make this, tell you what, if someone submits a video to Neil, put it on Twitter through
11:45YouTube or whatever and send it to at Neil Gortz and at Sam Connersby.
11:51And if you get to the 500 foot limit in this level, I will give you something or do something.
11:58I can't think of something right now.
12:01That's fairly non-committal.
12:03I reckon you're going to get a few.
12:05You reckon?
12:05Yeah.
12:06You're going to get to the 500 foot limit.
12:08People will get to the ceiling, definitely.
12:10Just watch that score for a second.
12:11What's going on there?
12:12What's going on there?
12:12You're just about to hit the double S.
12:14I'm just about to hit the double S. This was, I think people within the Capcom towers actually came running
12:22out of office rooms at the sound that I made upon hitting this double S.
12:28You're just about to make him your prison bitch.
12:30Oh, look at that.
12:31Explodes in a shower of orbs.
12:33And then he lands.
12:35And just to, you know, you've got the SS.
12:37Probably not something that I'd go around brandished on myself, SS.
12:44Topical.
12:45Oh, what are you doing now?
12:46What am I doing now?
12:47This was a point where, as I was playing this, I'll just point out aerial rave may be one of
12:54the greatest concepts ever.
12:55And all I really need to make it happen is some plywood and a blimp.
13:00What I was doing at that point was I was just shooting the guns into the camera as if to
13:06say that Dante was shooting at all the haters.
13:10Because that's how he roll.
13:13Do you think there are really haters?
13:15I don't think there are anymore.
13:17I mean, how long ago was it now that that CG trailer came out with him doing all the smoking
13:22and it might as well have been cut to good Charlotte?
13:27About a year ago?
13:28It wasn't.
13:29It was longer than that, wasn't it?
13:30It was 2010, I thought.
13:32Give or take.
13:33Yeah.
13:33Well, they've come a long way since then.
13:35And, you know, I've had, I was privileged enough to get taken by Neil down to Ninja Theory in Cambridge.
13:43And to me down there, the head creative ninja, which is amongst the best job titles of all time, he
13:53went through and he explained to a group of journalists how they'd come to this design for Dante and the
14:00world and Limbo and what they were actually doing with it.
14:03And it, it made a lot of sense.
14:05It made a lot of sense.
14:07Um, you know, the, the, I'm not going to use a big fancy word.
14:12I was going to put a big fancy word in there, but then I figured, don't need it.
14:15Blumange.
14:16Blumange.
14:16Um, the Blumange of this level is beautiful.
14:22Still looking at it, I get, I get caught up.
14:25Because it is, the world itself is, is stunningly done.
14:30Uh, if you can get a video of you, uh, getting even higher with those angels, then please do send
14:35it to us.
14:35We want to see just how good you are.
14:37I will be completing an as yet unspecified dare or giving an unspecified prize of some sort to anyone who
14:46reaches that 500 foot limit.
14:49There we go.
14:49If you can, if you can top the, uh, the ceiling limit, then Sam Connorsby.
14:54A lock of my hair.
14:55Sam will send you a lock of my hair.
14:57We're going to say the first person to send one in because I imagine a lot of people are going
15:01to do it.
15:02And you have such beautiful hair.
15:04I do have such beautiful...
15:07Obsidian black hair.
15:11That's more of a warm chestnut.
15:15Devil May Cry, that's the end of the demo.
15:17Hope you enjoyed it.
15:18Bye.
