00:52It was a challenge to try and capture something as iconic as Alcatraz.
00:56You know about this.
00:57This is arguably the most famous prison in the world.
01:00And now you're in it.
01:00Just the space, you know, the physicality of it, because it's quite claustrophobic.
01:05When modern day prisons are designed, they really consider not intimidating people or
01:09making the spaces, you know, as least stressful as possible.
01:12Well, Alcatraz didn't suffer from those restrictions.
01:17They did the research.
01:19They went out, studied Alcatraz, not just from books or internet.
01:22They were actually there to feel the environment.
01:25So it really sets a mood that gets you a little spooked.
01:30Well, we kind of started with the base layout of Alcatraz.
01:33The entire island we ended up roughing out in kind of a white box form and then figuring
01:38out what play spaces we wanted to use out of that.
01:39What would be the most interesting areas to play in and the connections between spaces
01:43and spaces that the public doesn't necessarily get to go into.
01:47We really did a lot of pushing to really enhance that psychological horror aspect that we're
01:51really looking for.
01:52And this is a really good opportunity to really tell something special.
02:02This time around I feel like it's been identified that there are these side missions that you're
02:06going to go out and try to accomplish.
02:08Al and the rest of the groups put together this escape plan, but the point is to get
02:12the parts and assemble this plane so they can get off the island.
02:16We did something new for the first time.
02:18We have actually contextual music that goes off.
02:20That's a first for zombies and it's all based around this horror thriller aspect.
02:24Every location will have a specific stinger that you hear when you find it, when you discover
02:29it, when you start unraveling the story.
02:32We start building on the music that you're hearing and it's really enhancing that experience
02:36and going along with it in parallel.
02:47Because we wanted to embrace this kind of horror thriller element, we wanted character actors.
02:51Guys who could really embody someone and then convey emotion.
02:54So that's why we went for guys like Ray Liotta, getting in that kind of guy, you know, we wanted
02:57the frantic nature.
02:58So he plays a character called Billy Handsome, who's this kind of psychopath who would be employed
03:03by the mob to kill people in interesting ways.
03:06Chaz Palminteri, he plays a guy called Sal DeLuca, an old mob boss.
03:10Michael Madsen playing Finn O'Leary.
03:12He's kind of worked himself from the floor, you know, from the streets.
03:15He's got his hands dirty and the blood in the guts a couple of times.
03:18And then we had Joe Pantolano and he plays Arthur Arlington, who's nicknamed the Weasel.
03:24Those guys, they bring a quality and a subtlety and timing that you can't really identify
03:31or try to recreate.
03:42You start off in the afterlife mode and that's just going to be what's going on.
03:47You're going to try to solve the mystery from the second you start.
03:50Afterlife to me brings a new element, like a new puzzle element, forces me to think a
03:55little bit more or look for the clues or kind of think of zombies on a slightly deeper level.
04:01You see clues throughout the map that tell you, ooh, perhaps if I'm in the afterlife I can
04:06interact with this object or there's some puzzle going on here that I need to be in the afterlife.
04:11Back east, I wagged a dirty dentist with one of these.
04:14It took forever.
04:17Alcatraz has a civil war kind of fought background before it turned into a penitentiary.
04:22And so we had this kind of backstory, the idea that the warden would have collected civil war weapon.
04:29One of them is a blunder gat.
04:31It's a fictional weapon, but the idea of the combination between a blunderbuss and a gatling gun.
04:36And possibly, it might be a way of upgrading it to a more fantastical weapon that the players
04:41may find.
04:47There's one main zombie, one big zombie that's going to come through and wreak havoc on your life.
04:53He'll lock down the perk machine, he'll close down the box, so you have to pay to get that open
04:58again, so you don't want him to interfere with your process.
05:00Now's a good time to pick a fight.
05:03Why did you hurt me?
05:05It's a fun challenge, it keeps things moving forward.
05:07In terms of perks, we have a new electric cherry.
05:10When you reload, it gives a shock around you, which scales over time.
05:13Who's asking for a huge ball?
05:16There's so much to experience in this map.
05:19Every time I play it, there's a new tactic to take, a new experience, a new objective to go for.
05:24But there's also this layer of things that we aren't exactly exposing to the players right off the bat, and
05:29will need to be discovered.
05:31Don't let me go, is it the calling, we're here, we're here.
05:43We've got the undead in there, we've got these historical elements, and these fantastic actors.
05:47All seem to be with peace with each other in this kind of same world, so it's magical, and our
05:53team is incredibly excited by it.
05:56We see the calling, and we're here, we're here. How do, how do we know?
06:07And the film is, we're here. kinda...
06:10No, sir, isn't it?
06:13Now, remember what?
