00:04Water. You've probably heard of it. Essential for life, capable of eroding mountains and my sixth favourite beverage after Cola
00:11and four of the five flavours of Fruit Chute.
00:13It's pretty amazing stuff, particularly when it's done well in video games.
00:18With that in mind, and not to mention the fact I'm a bit of a connoisseur slash sad git when
00:23it comes to video game H2O, I've put together a list of the very best water in games.
00:28Battlefield 4 on PS4. A game with so many graphics, it's a wonder they don't all fall into each other
00:35and make multiplayer a jerky, unplayable mess.
00:38There's lens flare graphics over there, building graphics over here, and over by where my character is idling, the water
00:46graphics.
00:46They're just so lovely, rolling and wet.
00:50If you ever find yourself playing Battlefield 4 against me on Paracel Storm, come down to the water for an
00:55easy headshot because that's where I'll be.
00:57Rifle down, eyes forward, oblivious to the spitting warzone all around.
01:02I'd almost say it's better than actual water, and just wait until the storm kicks in. Beautiful.
01:09Next is Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag, a game much like the human body in that it's full of niggly
01:14imperfections no one can be bothered to work on, and also is about 70% water.
01:20And oh my god, who wouldn't want to dip their toes in that?
01:25It's like something out of a honeymoon brochure. Warm, turquoise, and full of British people causing trouble.
01:31The water here isn't just for decoration though. It gets angry sometimes.
01:35It churns around in massive water spouts and rears up into 50-foot rogue waves.
01:41He is gone!
01:44Then the sun sets across it and your eyeballs melt.
01:47The big wet water party isn't just reserved for PS4 however.
01:51Grand Theft Auto 5 on PS3 has some stunning ocean tech.
01:56Ideal when you want to take a break from all the gang-banging, family-feuding and tennis,
02:01and just stroll across Vespucci Beach, drinking in the rays and watching that lovely water lap at the shore.
02:08Get in a plane and it also looks gorgeous from above.
02:11Or you could experience the wonderfully realistic waves close up by ploughing through them on a jet ski.
02:17Forget Trevor, water is the true star of Los Santos. Drink it in.
02:22My prestigious and made-up award for best water on PS3 however goes to Uncharted 3,
02:29in particular the incredible escape from a sinking tanker,
02:32which shakes things up by throwing you all over the place while the angry ocean inexorably claims its prize.
02:38Watching the churning mass quickly flooding your playing space
02:41was panic-inducing to the point of never having a bath ever again.
02:46Plus, as a technological feat, it's right up there with putting a man on the moon.
02:49Astounding and oh-so-watery.
02:54Next up, we've got the best rain in a game,
02:57which is hands-down the rain in Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes.
03:01It not only looks like a February evening in Barnsley, but also sounds the part.
03:05Stick a pair of headphones on, close your eyes,
03:08and it's like you're right there in the middle of the downpour.
03:11I particularly love the way it makes everything so sodden and shiny.
03:15The muddy roads, the slick, wind-blown tarpaulins on the armoury tents,
03:19the glossy finish on Snake's sneaking suit.
03:22It's also beautiful and really conducive to creeping about and snapping men in the neck.
03:31Next up is the God of Water, or the God of the Sea to be more precise.
03:35You challenge me, model?
03:39The God of Olympus?
03:41It's Poseidon in God of War 3, a massive boss made entirely out of water.
03:46He's even got water horses, and he looks fantastic.
03:50In true God of War fashion, this is actually right at the very beginning of the game.
03:54No easing you in gently then.
03:55And he's so gobsmackingly epic in its scale and gory beauty,
04:00it had me reaching for the Kleenex to clean my face of tears.
04:04Then, when you kill him, he does this.
04:15Finally, we've got a game with so much water you'll probably forget it's even there.
04:19It's Bioshock, which is set 99.9% under the water.
04:24In fact, one of the only times you get to see the sky is at the beginning,
04:27when you fall from it and hit the ocean in a fiery plane crash.
04:30Ah, those reflections.
04:32So reflection-y.
04:34The subterranean majesty of Bioshock creates an atmosphere like no other,
04:38an oppressive eeriness that's all down to how wonderfully murky and heavy
04:43the underwater city of Rapture is.
04:45Well done, water. Very well done.
04:47So there you go, a list of my favourite water in video games.
04:50If I've missed out your favourite, then let me know in the comments.
04:53And don't forget to hit subscribe for more of me talking nonsense about things I really like in games.
