00:08Unfinished Swan
00:09Unfinished Swan is a really interesting game
00:10that doesn't have a lot of
00:12comparable experiences out there
00:14even from the very beginning we didn't have to put in
00:17a lot of user interface
00:19elements or tutorials
00:20we were able to let people
00:22pretty much discover the game
00:24in the same way that as a player you're discovering
00:27the world. The story of the Unfinished Swan
00:28is a story about
00:30an orphaned boy, Monroe, who has
00:32lost his mother and the last thing that
00:34she has left in the world is this painting
00:36of the swan that she never finished. And one
00:38night the swan gets up out of the painting
00:40and wanders in
00:42this fantastic world and Monroe
00:44follows the swan in an attempt
00:46to catch it, in an attempt to really hold on
00:48to the last thing he has of his mother's
00:51and then along the way
00:52he learns more about the different
00:54worlds that he's wandering through
00:56and at the end hopefully something about himself.
00:58It's a first person painting game
01:00and in the beginning of the game
01:02the player starts out in a completely white world
01:04and they have to throw paint balls to figure out what's around them.
01:08Our paint splatting that's really the central piece of
01:11of tech that we've spent, you know, the most time on trying to really polish and make look as realistic
01:20but also as stylized as possible.
01:25We got involved with Sony because they called us. We had shown the game in Tokyo at the Sense of
01:31Wonder Night in 2008 and they had seen I think a video of that online when the game was still
01:36a very early prototype.
01:38Initially I was sent a YouTube video, I think I found it or it was on a forum and it
01:42was just
01:42kind of, it's chapter one which is the garden and immediately I was like this game is unbelievable, like we
01:48have to talk to you and we have to figure out a way to get this game onto the PlayStation
01:533.
01:53Giant Sparrow was created essentially to make this game.
01:56It's been an interesting challenge working with the team on a project that we didn't necessarily know what it was
02:04going to be in the beginning.
02:05So I think we all knew that it was going to be this, you know, black and white world in
02:09the very beginning of the game but where it was going to go from there was pretty open.
02:14Being a small team we work very closely together and everybody has to wear a lot of different hats and
02:21have more different domain knowledge than you would in a larger team where you're more focused on just a very
02:31specific subset of things.
02:33I think this game appeals to two very different sets of people.
02:37There's the hardcore gamer and then there's the person who doesn't really like games and oddly enough I think the
02:42game appeals to both of those people for a lot of the same reasons.
02:45I don't really know where video games are headed. All I know is that I hope that wherever they're headed
02:50there's still places for games like The Unfinished Swan to exist because I think they're fantastic and I think they
02:57grow the medium.
02:59I know exactly what I need to say, but I think they'll do a lot of it.
03:03They're like, guys, like, share the world and there's a lot of it.
03:04Yeah, I think they're sort of one of the big brands.
03:05There are some other picks on such things as they're going to be doing well.
03:06But I think they're going to be so good.
03:07I like that the new people that they've been applying to, and I think they're trying to make a big
03:07difference.
03:07Grazie a tutti.
