00:36Yeah, the two fighters that Marksman mentioned have been mentors for him over the last few months.
00:41One was Shakur Stevenson who was sparred with the other, Andre Ward, who we said he got to talk to
00:46when he was out in Vegas for that camp.
00:48When it comes to undefeated fighters, I like to look at the resume.
00:51Who's fought better opposition?
00:52And you mentioned, Todd, Gomez has a few, a couple undefeated guys, but Marksman has six undefeated opponents in his
00:5913 fight.
01:00This is an impressive resume where the fighter won only 13 fights.
01:05Gomez, the southpaw, already targeting the body with a straight left hand.
01:10And you can bet, you know, the confidence that Marksman got sparring the great Shakur Stevenson is only going to
01:17make him even better tonight.
01:18You can see Marksman coming out in that orthodox position.
01:22You'll see him switch stances over the course of a fight.
01:25That's part of his style.
01:30You can see that Gomez has the slightly heavier hands, even though they both have a similar knockout ratio.

01:39Marksman's a little bit more accurate, hence his last name.
01:44Both men describing this as the biggest fight of their lives because, Sergio, there's not a lot of job security

02:58When I was studying Gomez, I loved, you know, the body punching, but he has an excellent right hook.
03:03And every time I'm studying southpaws, and once I see that hook come around slinging it, I'm like, yeah, this
03:09guy's a good.

03:11And that clip, Gomez, it appeared a little bit.

03:14Caught him again with a right hand, and this crowd is fired up.
03:18But Marksman's got to be careful not to get carried away, Sergio.

05:17I mean, you can see that both of them have sharp punches.
05:20They're not heavy hands, but they're both very sharp.

05:26It's just in recent fights, he's been down at 130.
05:29So this is a familiar weight class.
05:31Like, Gomez, I think he's the heavier puncher, Sergio, but Marksman to me is sharper.

06:20He's never boxed outside his home state.

18:45but Marksman maybe had a few more tools in the box.

19:38is that on every show, you've got someone like Corey Marksman, a ticket seller,
19:42somebody that's on the card for that reason.

21:02The knees, the elbows, the career just won't be as long or as fruitful.
21:08Yeah, these two once fought on the same card back early in Corey's career.
21:12And, of course, Todd, you had to be the one to ask him whether Dad won or lost.

21:17But he really won in the spectator's hearts.

28:33He injured that bicep three weeks before his fight against Thompson Shiraz.
28:38Went out and fought Shiraz with that injured bicep and performed quite well.
28:42Maybe could have won that fight.
28:45But he didn't decide not to have surgery on it afterwards.
28:48And now he's coming back trying to prove that there is no injury issue with him going into this fight.
28:54But he's ready to go and ready to defend this title for the third time.
28:58A torn bicep seems like you've got to have surgery.

29:02He said we could just basically allow time to do the job.
29:05Well, I mean, we've called a lot of Oscar Duarte fights.
29:08And you look at his bicep, it looks like it's a little torn as well.

29:19And Marksman trying to hurt the career of Jacob Gomez.

29:34Because he's had, you know, good swings, good ebb and flows.

34:17instead of giving you specific tactical instructions.
34:21That's the last resort of a corner, you know, just to become cheerleaders.
34:25Because they know they're in there with a sharpshooter, a sniper, and Corey Marksman.
34:29So they've already ran through the bag of tricks.
34:31Now it just comes down to toughness.
34:33Oh, he's eaten too many of those, but delivers a ride of his own.
34:36That head of Gomez, just a stationary target.

34:40He's trying to step into these straight left hands, but Marksman's seeing them coming.

34:52he's going to set up a beautiful right hand because Gomez keeps dipping to the exact same side.
34:58But you need to lead his head there with jabs in order to set him up with a right hand
