00:09Assassin's Creed is one of the most acclaimed and successful
00:11franchises in the video game industry
00:14Come with me as we go behind closed doors
00:16to see what it's like to bring Ubisoft's
00:18biggest brand to the biggest stage
00:20in gaming
00:35www.mesmerism.info
00:36What would you say to people who
00:37are looking at Assassin's Creed a bit from the
00:40outside and thinking maybe I should jump in
00:41but maybe it's I've missed too much?
00:43Everything that happened before in the brand happened
00:45and we're assuming that, right?
00:47But it's a new start, it's a new narrative start
00:49and that is symbolized by a completely
00:52new context for the present day
00:53Now you've seen a little bit of an evolution
00:55with Black Flag, we're not going to do the same thing
00:57This is what we're doing with Unity
00:59is really the beginning
01:01for this new cycle
01:03of Assassin's Creed games
01:04Because it's new, we can actually
01:07explain it properly because nobody's going to feel
01:09like it's redundant, right?
01:11So I would say that Assassin's Creed Unity
01:13is probably the best entry point
01:16for the franchise since AC1
01:18So now we're May 1st, 2014
01:19I guess that puts us
01:21five weeks, give or take
01:22from E3
01:23So looking forward
01:26what's at the top of your to-do list?
01:28We have two things to do right now
01:29is to finish the game
01:30and also try to work on
01:33marketing assets and try to
01:35start promoting the game and stuff
01:36Our main priority right now is the E3 demo
01:39We actually have two in production right now
01:41So the good news is that
01:43most of the things that we're doing for these demos
01:45are also things that we need to do for the game
01:47just to polish stuff
01:48and have all the cool features ready
01:51There's a bit of the stress involved
01:53to be honest
01:54but I mean we have such great material
01:56we have such a great game that's coming out
01:58and I feel really proud
02:01actually being able to show this
02:03It's obviously the challenge
02:05for me personally is to make sure
02:06that it shows as well as it is
02:09I mean it's really a great
02:11we have great material
02:12we have great stuff
02:13and I just hope that I'll be able to do it justice
02:19As you know the lead studio
02:20in Assassin's Creed Unity is Montreal
02:22however for a next-gen game of this size
02:25Montreal is relying on the help of
02:26several other Ubisoft studios
02:27We're here in Toronto to check out the cinematics
02:30the co-op and some of the demos
02:32that you're going to be seeing at E3
02:33So let's go have a look and see how things are shaping up
02:35about six weeks before the big show
02:50So we're bringing a very exciting co-op demo
02:52to show everyone
02:53not only the new skills and things
02:56that they're going to be able to do with their friends
02:57but to show the immersive world of Paris
02:59and show how well it's going to look
03:01and what they can be excited to when the game ships
03:03When you're doing cinematics for co-op
03:05you're working just by its very nature
03:07you're working with a distracted audience
03:08because there's banter back and forth between the players
03:12and everyone's there for a reason
03:13they want to get in and play a mission
03:15so they don't want to sit around
03:16and sort of cut through tons of exposition
03:19so the challenge for us
03:21was to deliver a lot of context
03:24and a lot of story in a one-minute period
03:27What's the top of your to-do list for the next month?
03:30E3!
03:31It was a great chance for my team
03:32to sort of come together
03:34and push on something that could be taken to final quality
03:37and have a big impact
03:39in terms of strengthening E3
03:41and stuff like that
03:42so we're super excited
03:43it's been a huge opportunity
03:45and a big learning opportunity for us as well
03:47because we're a relatively new team
03:49we only started working on assassins about a year ago
03:52Okay, so currently we're actually in the Montreal studio
03:54We are, yeah
03:55Can you tell me what we're doing here?
03:57Well, I got a call on Friday afternoon
04:00basically saying that we had to do a
04:02I wouldn't call it an emergency
04:03but we had to have an immediate review on E3
04:07For sure it's amazing to secure the Microsoft stage
04:11but if we want the co-op demo on the stage
04:14it means we have to trim two and a half minutes off our current version
04:18so that's actually a big reason why I'm here today as well
04:21is to figure out how do we cut two and a half minutes out of our demo
04:25to fit into their five-minute window
04:27You know, it's been going well
04:28but of course it's always, you know, the last few weeks
04:32you're looking at all the little opportunities to polish
04:35and, you know, get those wow moments
04:38we really want to go into E3
04:39and have the demo of the show
04:41so it's exciting but stressful at the same time
04:54Well, it's a few minutes before the show starts
04:56and it's the calm before the storm
04:59I think everybody's in Zen mode
05:14Good afternoon
05:17It is the dawn of the 19th century
05:18and Paris is in its darkest hour
05:25Come see us at the booth for a lot more
05:28You have a great E3
05:34Great job
