00:17Welcome to Mordheim's City of the Dam's first gameplay demo.
00:21This game is a tactical action game with RPG elements inspired by the Games Workshop's iconic tabletop game,
00:27launching its early access campaign on Steam in November.
00:31In this demo, you'll see a multiplayer game between five human mercenaries from the Reikland
00:35and five members of the Cult of the Possessed.
00:38As you can see in the corner of the screen, this is a pre-alpha version and does not represent
00:42the final quality of the game.
00:45Mordheim features an intuitive ladder system for a more dynamic gameplay experience than
00:49usual turn-based games, meaning each unit is activated according to their initiative ratio.
00:54The blue dots you can see at the bottom left represent the movement pool.
00:58Each time a unit crosses a blue line, it consumes one of them.
01:01Some actions could also be triggered by using those points.
01:05The red ones represent the offense points and he used to perform attacks and cast offensive
01:09spells.
01:11Willing to stand in advantage point to make good use of his ranged weapons, the captain
01:15will try to leap here.
01:16Not an easy task with his heavy armor equipped.
01:24Squishy, the warlock has suffered some wounds from a previous battle and is now walking with
01:28a peg leg.
01:29Because he can't be too adventurous without knowing the position of his enemy, he'll just
01:33have to stay here for now, hidden in this house.
01:39Before moving, the Magistair is casting the Blade of Destruction spell on the Dark Soul.
01:43This buff imbues the target's weapons with dark magic, increasing the damages by 10% against
01:48other enemies and ignoring 5 points of armor absorption.
01:54As for every action, spells have a chance of failure in Mordheim.
01:58The Magistair will try to use a perception skill to discover the traps and enemies surrounding
02:03Unfortunately for this time, he fails.
02:10This brawling unit is called the Possessed.
02:12The player will strategically place him in front of his Magistair to protect him and leave
02:16him with some action points so that he is able to counter-attack.
02:19Mordheim's story campaign features an authentic narrative over multiple maps across the city.
02:24But Skirmish mode is comprised of procedurally generated maps so that each game is fresh, rewarding
02:29exploration.
02:30However, you can still pick from a pool of unique maps.
02:33Now we're about to witness a ranged duel between the mutant armed with a bow and the mercenary
02:38captain equipped with dual pistols.
02:40Ranged weapons have to be reloaded after every shot.
02:44Each warband can have one unique impressive unit.
02:47The Cult of the Possessed features this huge chaos spawn.
02:55This fearsome creature will stand by the weak mutant unit and use an ambush stance to lure
02:59any approaching enemy into a deadly trap.
03:05Death in Mordheim is permanent.
03:07Once you receive injury and at the end of the match learn your unit's fate, if they should
03:11die there's no going back.
03:12There are only so many eyes and limbs a unit can lose before they're out.
03:18The fierce warrior will try to avenge the blow given to his captain by an apparently easy
03:22to kill mutant.
03:23But as we know that might not be as easy as it seems.
03:30With enough action points in his reserve, the chaos spawn has no trouble getting rid of the threat.
03:37In Mordheim's City of the Damned, unit placement is crucial and could dictate the fate of your
03:42entire warband.
03:52With one unit down, the player controlling the human mercenaries will use his marksman to
03:57set up a crossfire with the help of his captain.
04:01Unfortunately he misses the shot and is not able to pin down the mutant with a knee shot.
04:07Let us introduce to you the mercenary ogre.
04:09The human mercenary's impressive unit packs some serious strength.
04:14After every battle, you'll be able to upgrade the units in your warband, hire more and of
04:18course adjust their attributes, weapons and armour to match your tastes and tactics.
04:22Don't grow too attached however, as there's a chance the next battle will be the last.
04:27Since the possessed spares some action points earlier in this round, he can counter attack.
04:32But he is definitely not a match for the big guy and is being put down.
04:36Once the unit is out of action, it will have to wait until the end of the battle to learn
04:40its fate.
04:41Simple injury, crippling runs or even death awaits.
04:44Only time will tell.
04:47Now let's see what this dark soul with enchanted weapons has up its sleeves.
04:59Ouch, that's a crucial blow and not enough to drop the tough guy though.
05:07With his vantage point, the captain does not risk much from the chaos spawn, so he chooses
05:12to take out the mutant first.
05:32Left completely off the radar of the possessed warband, the warlock is ready to do some massive
05:36damage using his AOE spell, Fireball, to take out the mutant.
05:53Now he's going to put himself under the protection of the mercenary ogre.
06:01But the cold of the possessed benefits also from an AOE spell, and this one does not even
06:06include friendly fire.
06:08The magister spell is called Word of Pain and can hit really hard.
06:11Well, at least when the casting succeeds.
06:22Now let's see what this chaos spawn is up to.
06:25Willing to bring back some balance between the two warbands, he's going after the marksman.
06:31Leaving the poor guy no chance to survive, facing the devastating claws of this impressive unit.
06:38And back to our big guy, with his three attacks, the Dark Soul might not see another day.
06:47That lucky miss gives some hope to the possessed player, but the mercenary ogre is switching
06:52weapons and chooses to use the special overpower skill.
07:01Well, looks like the Dark Soul made it this time, let's see how he's going to use that
07:05extended time on the battlefield.
07:09Another crucial hit that is an incredible turn of events, and the momentum is switching
07:13from the mercenaries to the possessed.
07:15Clever move here, engaging the warlock forces the human player to spend some extra movement
07:19points to disengage.
07:22With no target in range, the captain will leave his vantage point by attempting a perilous
07:26jump.
07:36After reloading, the captain decided not to take another action.
07:39Does he have a plan to save the day?
07:45The warlock has to be cautious to avoid being caught in his own fireball here.
08:03The Dark Soul got downed, but its previous move forced the warlock to spend some strategy
08:08points to disengage, leaving the magic user with limited options in terms of retreat.
08:19Vengeance is a dish served with pain, and variety is not really this Magisterre's cup of tea.
08:38Out in the open, the ranged specialist captain is in all kinds of trouble, especially facing
08:43this monstrous creature.
08:46And there goes our little fella.
08:48With the mercenary warband down to one unit, they have to perform a route check to verify
08:53the remaining character won't leave the battlefield.
09:00As a desperate attempt, our brave warlock is trying to set one more time the chaos spawn
09:04on fire.
09:07Unfortunately, this time the spell fizzles.
09:15Willing to showcase the whole range of its diverse talents, the Magisterre is going to
09:20attack the warlock in melee.
09:22That should hurt.
09:25Looks like we've got a winner of this epic battle.
09:29And that concludes our gameplay demonstration for today, thank you for watching and stay
09:33tuned for some more footage of Mordheim's City of the Damned.
