00:13Hello, I'm Tommy. I'm the narrative designer
00:16here at MachineGames.
00:17So I'm gonna talk a little bit
00:19about the train sequence
00:21in Wolfenstein The New Order.
00:23A very advanced coffee simulator
00:26here. I think
00:27half our budget went
00:29into that, probably.
00:31Yeah. We'll have
00:33coffee here at MachineGames.
00:36So this is the first time that the player is
00:39introduced to Frau Engel, who is that
00:41scary-looking, high-ranking
00:43Nazi officer over there by the table.
00:45in contact.
00:52This house is closed.
01:00You can put the coffee on the table.
01:06It's harmless.
01:15It's a good one.
01:16A good one.
01:16Let's see.
01:19Hmm... yeah.
01:21Very beautiful
01:23boats.
01:24When we started working on this level
02:14ma vuole poter testarlo
02:17e quindi il giro non sapevamo l'inizio
02:21non sapevamo se fosse un'inizio
02:23non sapevamo se fosse un'inizio
02:39non sapevamo se fosse un'inizio
03:09non sapevamo se fosse un'inizio nazista
03:39non sapevamo se fosse un'inizio
03:42non sapevamo se fosse un'inizio
04:07qui pick the gun here
04:27so the test is of course bogus
04:30and it's just a
04:31kind of a prank that Frau Hengen likes to play on people
04:34but it also illustrates
04:39how the Nazis relied on bullshit science
04:42to justify their racist ideology
05:00and now we're back to the coffee simulator
05:05pretty impressive that coffee I think
05:08I love coffee
05:15we tried to add a lot of
05:18nice little details in the environment
05:20like the posters that you see there
05:22those are windows that let us
05:24show the players
05:26what the greater world looks like
05:29and how it's changed
05:31since the Nazis won the war
05:34and rose to global domination
05:38that was something that we
05:40really tried to put a lot of work into
05:42to add that kind of rich layer
05:45into the environment
05:47where you could feel that it was a world
05:49that was actually
05:52very believable
05:53no matter how unbelievable
05:56the scenario is
05:59we realized early on
06:01that we needed
06:02another way to
06:03communicate the backstory
06:04of this alternate history
06:07and the newspaper clippings
06:08was a way for us
06:09to do that
06:10and it allowed us
06:12to deliver this backstory
06:13without forcing it
06:15upon players
06:22I think I need to get a hot cup of coffee
06:24after this
06:34on top of delivering the backstory
06:37to the players
06:37we also tried to foreshadow
06:39what was to come
06:40later on in the story
06:42like in this instance
06:43we hinted to
06:45the labor camp
06:47that players visit
06:48later on in the game
06:51William?
06:53okay
06:54that wraps up
06:55the train sequence
06:56thank you for listening
06:57you
