In 2006, the World Chess Championship turned into a scandal. During the unification match between Vladimir Kramnik and Veselin Topalov, Topalov’s team accused Kramnik of cheating by visiting the bathroom too often.
They claimed he was hiding a computer engine in a private restroom. Kramnik said he had medical issues and refused to play after officials locked the bathroom.
One game was forfeited by Kramnik. He would later be crowned champion.
