00:35that's like our quasi local team you obviously have ties there your daughter went there oh she

00:45producer aj atai is a vet like the world's proudest vcu ram i was texting with him last night um

00:52madness is the best i mean this is why you get excited about it say can you get out our

00:57let us check stuff that's why they call it march madness brother um the the only thing that
01:02would have really made yesterday like an all-time banger is if duke went down duke was down 11 at
01:10halftime sienna um sienna was man they were playing bro it's just they ran out of steam man they didn't

01:26players play a whole damn team so the whole time i totally agree there's got to be somebody on the

01:55did the show high boy vcu baby atta boy so we uh we did the show here and then our

02:01i had picked tcu oh there you go i had tcu um we went so our good friends from the
02:20that was close but didn't end up being uh we watched the end of tcu ohio state so then i

02:25in the car for the end of wisconsin high point and i called you i was like yo you nailed

02:31i love the interview the i forgive me i don't remember the high point young man's name but he
02:37he did a post-game interview and he said listen we don't consider this an upset we respect wisconsin
02:42but we work our ass off too yeah we're a good team too and that was what was so impressive
02:47to me in the high point win over wisconsin is that was just a good game with two good teams
02:54and high
02:54point just pulled it out high point was like 30 and three going into that game right versus vcu and
02:59carolina well carolina choked they had a big-ass lead and just gave it away well you know they look
03:04discombobulated a lot of times that's that's where coaches i think make their hey where when you get up
03:10on the team you're supposed to be that coach got to make sure he he finds a way to make
03:15sure you
03:15understand this is not over don't get complacent right you know like sometimes you watch some of
03:21these coaches hell the coach with illinois i mean with indiana they were up three touchdowns in some
03:28games this year four touchdowns but his intensity on his face made his players understand this ish is
03:35not over you got to go out there keep balling and i think that that's where uh i forgot the
03:40coach of
03:41north carolina hubert davis hubert davis he i don't know if kept if he kept that intensity going do you
03:48so carolina was up 19 points that's the sixth largest comeback in tournament history for vcu and
03:55all credit to vcu phil martelli you think about that vcu program they just continuously find great
04:01coaches oh yeah think about the guys that have come through there going all the way back um who
04:05was the first dude that uh was it anthony grant was that his name remember before shaka yeah before
04:11shaka yeah what's that dude grant and he went to alabama he went to bama right so they had grant
04:17then shaka more recently will wade will wade is a good-ass coach he got in trouble for paying players
04:22well that's legal right now um then they just had ryan odom who gets the job at uva i believe
04:29when he had vcu before that now they've got phil martelli jr seems like the real deal like vcu
04:35runs a good basketball program one thing they all do out of all those coaches you name they believe
04:41in defense you know and you can see sometimes they may get down but their intensity on the defensive
04:48side of the ball never ever uh goes away and i think that also bothers a lot of teams too
04:54let's let's be real north carolina and some of these bigger teams when they get up on some
04:59smaller teams the small team quit right and then they can coast vcu's not quitting so you can't
05:06coast and if you're used to coasting when you're up maybe the last 15 minutes or so of a game
05:12and now
05:12you're being checked and you got intensity coming at you something you're not used to you make mistakes
05:18totally did a lot of them well dude i don't know if you heard this so i think what do
05:23you think the
05:23breakdown was in the country of people rooting for sienna versus duke because there's a lot of duke
05:27fans 98 you know who was definitely rooting for sienna this casino and every casino across the country
05:35if duke went down imagine the futures and the brackets all that man um but one of the dukies after
05:41the game said he's like man we thought this was going to be a cakewalk and it wasn't see and
05:44that's
05:44that right there is a problem how do you go into any game at this level and that team have
05:50been
05:50playing real good sienna and just think it's a cakewalk if you get to that point where you think
05:56is everything's a cakewalk you got a problem right um so i was driving over here and thought of this
06:02question from a serious standpoint i don't know which fan base is more upset if it's wisconsin or it's
06:09carolina um carolina was a six seed i believe wisconsin was a five wisconsin now has lost four
06:16times as a 512 like wisconsin either needs to be a four or a six they got to get off
06:21that we normally
06:22don't think that 512 thing really is about you called it there is something about that i used i've
06:27been hearing this since i was younger you call they talk about the five and the 12 and i'm like
06:32okay
06:32then so is it that the the committee are they putting people at 12 that they know is way better
06:39than the 12 and that five comes in like you know yeah we're playing a 12 and you find out

06:44playing a six i feel like the 12s are usually among the best of these smaller conferences okay and the
06:51fives are usually solid bubble teams but like i mean if you just if you just number it out if
06:58you're
06:59the five line means you're roughly the 17th to the 21st best teams right in that like if you go
07:09one is one through four and then two is five through eight and on down i'm not a math guy
07:14but roughly
07:14you're saying the the bottom end of the top 20 is the five line right yeah and those teams are
07:21good
07:21but not great and then these other teams you also for the 12th seed that's their super bowl right like
07:27they're coming in and and for vcu richmond to chapel hill is what two hours you just go down 85

07:34through petersburg like a lot of those kids probably know each other they look closer than that right
07:39and maybe it's all changed now a transfer portal whatever but like vcu was going to be all the way
07:44up for that game hell yeah and then carolina just took their foot off the gas you know you're up

07:56daughter in college when you hear them talk they talk like they've been somewhere they don't go
08:03around thinking oh we're a small school totally and i think what happens is when other schools just
08:08look past them dismiss them they say hold on dog we've been to final fours you know i'm saying you're
08:15supposed to live in them and you ain't been one however they come out to play well i think for

08:19especially because your daughter went there but even for me as somebody that spent a decent amount
08:25of time in richmond during skins training camp when it was down there for so long like richmond is not
08:31a major u.s city obviously but it is a city and vcu is kind of like the pro team
08:37in that town hill like
08:39people like the the arena is downtown like the way the the richmond media covers vcu is like full time
08:47you know what i mean so like that is that that is not high point which is a very small
08:53town i always
08:54say hey don't talk down on us today high points got cash dog you know they get every student gets
08:59free ice cream you can just go get ice cream whenever i'm a student at high point um all right
09:04but i landed on a serious question standing turn your mic up jeff and white brian i want to ask

09:09so as a program our alma maters okay i i'm obviously a maryland fan um you root for lots of
09:19different
09:19schools ul is your alma mater stallion where'd you go mason mason you're a notre dame guy notre dame
09:26white brian obviously a proud auburn guy jeff bowie state's not getting in the tournament jeff i think
09:30would consider himself a turp fan whatever it is all of us all of us combined and this is sad
09:37none of us
09:38got into the tournament which is remarkably lame right and i think for maryland they had a disaster
09:45of a season that they have to turn around next year and if they don't there's real hell to pay
09:48for georgetown that program's kind of rudderless to me at this point you're three years in with a
09:54coach and nothing is good i don't know what the plan is there mason had a good year kind of
09:59fell apart
10:00late forgive me b i don't know how you well did but basketball's not there that's football school
10:05no we care about football um and if the basketball team make it yeah we look cheerful but we care
10:10about football auburn underperformed their one game over 500 like all of our schools collectively
10:15notre dame sucked at basketball like all of our schools collectively sucked at basketball right um
10:22that said would you rather be a turp fan an irish fan an auburn fan today or would you rather
10:28be a
10:28carolina or wisconsin fan today i mean you still got to be one of the fans of those two teams

10:35made it so i think carolina fans can rationalize that caleb wilson got hurt yeah yeah but he's been
10:40hurt for a long time i don't know man they're the i've been on the other side of that where
10:46my school
10:46loses when they're not supposed to there's something to be said for man we just know we
10:51suck rather than having to go through the pain of yesterday like if you're a wisconsin fan yesterday
10:56you're gutted basically yeah i stallion where do you land i mean i think i'd rather be in the
11:03tournament like while i would be absolutely gutted by that loss like i'd rather be in
11:09yeah i get that jeffrey
11:14i'm gonna be honest jp the only losses that really like hurt my soul are commander's losses
11:21i just be i just support the college teams to do well but the only losses that really like make
11:26me feel like man the rest of my day is ruined is sundays if we lose sadly it happened too

11:33year too white brian you're in a unique spot because auburn has a proud football tradition that
11:39has fallen on hard times auburn's kind of oddly become this basketball school under bruce pearl
11:44bruce pearl inducts his son into the head coaching job he kind of stunk then he turns into a promoter
11:51for him yeah he turned in like a pro wrestling manager um auburn not in the tournament or be a
11:58wisconsin fan today auburn not in the tournament i still can't get over the loss to yale a couple years
12:07ago right like the when you lose in these situations it is gutting and i don't know man i i'm

12:14much rather maryland be in the tournament you know i i hear people a lot of times people say
12:21man if you lose that last one that's so tough you should have lost it earlier no because i think
12:28back to two seasons ago and the skins gave up 50 in the nfc title game yeah and that playoff
12:33run was
12:33incredible it was incredible as hell and you loved it and you loved the fact that they made it to
12:38the
12:38to the uh nfc championship game i didn't want to lose before the nfc championship game
12:43and not be there at all you always want to go as far as you can it hurts like hell
12:49the closer you get
12:51the more it hurts okay but i still want to get as close as i damn well i can get
12:56before i lose out
12:58if i don't make it at all i have i don't have any position to talk trash to anybody that's
13:05where i
13:06but if i made it i'm talking trash but if i made it and you stayed at home shut the
13:10hell up you've
13:11been fishing since before the tournament started going to can't go now at least when i get there
13:16you can tell me where the good spots are you know yeah yeah um i do mean that to all

13:21at college park if the basketball season goes like this again next year hell to pay and questions need
13:27answered one year grace period don't don't worry about me um also want to make sure we give howard some
13:33love
13:33because howard played tough in that first dog howard this ran out of gas one they they won a game
13:39and they get the check that's involved with it they get the notoriety that's involved with it and then
13:44howard faces michigan last night michigan's on five days rest or whatever howard's you know 48
13:50hours later back out there and had to travel in between and it was they were down four at halftime
13:56they played well i think they gave michigan a good run michigan pulled ahead late i think
14:02michigan rolled in thinking this is gonna be a cakewalk and they say oh hell we're into it
14:06and then those damn towers in that second half that's just too much for them yeah howard's um
14:11i i heard kevin's got six seven d dominico explaining that they're tall they're tallest starter they might
14:17have a taller dude on the bench but their tallest starter contributor six foot seven michigan seems
14:22like it rolls out an army of ivan drago's out there like there's just so much size um it was
14:28a it
14:29was a very fun first day of the tournament um but credit to howard man they were impressive they uh
14:35they battled and i think that listen man it's like
14:41if you if both of the teams play their absolute best michigan's michigan's gonna win
14:49howard came out and they were playing some terrific ball they wouldn't turn the ball over they were
14:54knocking down shots but that you had to play damn near perfect the rest of the way to beat that
14:59team
14:59because michigan cannot play their best and probably have enough to beat you and i think you know i heard
15:06a lot of people howard alum and let me just tell you one thing man you went to howard be
15:13proud of your
15:13school i understand that but there's no reason to try to poop on other schools because they didn't go to
15:19a
15:20howard okay let's understand one thing i was cheering for them i didn't go to hbcu because
15:27you know what the place i wanted to go to they didn't recruit me where'd you want to go southern
15:31yeah and you think why didn't they recruit you that's because he was a dumbass i mean the coach
15:35there was a dumbass he was thinking like oh he ain't gonna talk to us i went to upper bound
15:39for four
15:40years at southern i lived 15 minutes i wanted to be there but then the ul lafayette had no usl
15:47at the time
15:48they've been recruiting me for two years and a half offered me a chemical engineering scholarship
15:54and i'm supposed to just that's stokely right yeah i'm supposed to just choose your school
16:00because is there no you got to show some love and interest in me the biggest dumbass was arkansas
16:05because they thought you had they had you and they said something to your father and it was
16:09game over they say something to the newspaper it was an article and i'm like i didn't say none of
16:13that
16:13so but the whole thing that's a blanche mitchell man you have to understand one thing
16:20it has nothing to do with the other schools when you get there when you get there you play your
16:24best
16:24but i'm saying i know how tough it is i'm proud of every damn student that played for howard yeah

16:30proud of all the kids at prairie view yeah but hey when you get to this level you find out
16:36it's a
16:37different ball game brother what's remarkable about sports is howard lost yesterday wisconsin lost
16:44yesterday carolina lost yesterday i imagine if you're a howard bison alum your head's pretty
16:50damn high today oh yeah and the other two are sunk they're sunk it's just it's remarkable how sports
16:56work in that capacity
