00:05Grazie a tutti, sono Giet Shroff, sono il Gameplay Engineering Lead di Sony Santa Monica.
00:09Ciao, sono Mihir Sheth, sono il Combat Designer di Sony Santa Monica.
00:35Grazie a tutti, grazie a tutti.
01:00Grazie a tutti, grazie a tutti, grazie a tutti.
01:30So the camera is significantly different, the camera's been brought in a lot more closer
01:35and is now a user control camera.
01:38What this allows us to do is, you know, gives us more avenues for an intimate and more personalized storytelling
01:44and it also empowers the player to kind of let them play the way they'd like to do it
01:49as well as sort of witness the story, the combat and the development of these characters firsthand.
01:55One of the areas we really wanted to explore was the idea of the game, of the game story
02:01unfolding around the player at all times within the game world itself.
02:05And, you know, from things like conversations or cinematics to gameplay moments that might reveal,
02:12you know, the story itself but also sort of the danger that might be lurking ahead or what
02:17what to expect ahead, all of those things are kind of, you know, a player that pays attention
02:21to those things might be able to cue into those ideas.
02:34Rage is really the element of Kratos that we're all familiar with from his past
02:38and it's a past that he's trying to hide away from his son, but it still lurks within him.
02:42So throughout the game, he'll be trying to manage this rage but bring it out when needed
02:46when they're in danger or they really need to take down a crazy big foe.
02:54No! You are not ready!
02:56The first enemy that we encounter in the demo is the Draugr.
02:59It's a very sort of common creature that you would see in Norse mythology.
03:03For us, we're tapping into that as our sort of base common grunt enemy type.
03:08The axe is the new powerful weapon that Kratos wields in this Norse realm.
03:12You can use it to perform a wide variety of melee attacks as well as used it in range combat.
03:17We actually have an aim mode camera that you can use to throw the axe
03:20and when you throw the axe out, you're left with your fists and you can engage barehanded combat.
03:26And the player will be able to play around with both the axe combat and the barehanded combat.
03:29And I think a large part of the fun aspect of the gameplay will come with managing those two styles.
03:34The axe itself also can be recalled at any time on a button press when it's out in the environment.
03:40And then, you know, the utility of the axe kind of extends beyond just combat as well.
03:45And so the player will be able to use that to, you know, explore, do some loot gathering
03:50and kind of take out things that are within that kind of far range that you wouldn't be able to
03:55get to.
04:08In our big fight, we feature a troll. And the troll is one of the larger characters in our realm.
04:15Normally, you're used to seeing our games a bit further pull back camera.
04:19And a lot of the characters look a bit smaller. But here, from our more intimate perspective,
04:22we can see really what a menace that character is.
04:25I think overall we're reimagining how the combat flows in this game.
04:28And so we want our combat to feel a lot more visceral and up close and intense.
04:37Kratos is going to have a wide arsenal of really cool attacks.
04:39I mean, we're only showing a few in this demo. You're able to see him kind of slam the ground
04:45and frost enemies in an area around him as well as recall the axe out of the air and slam
04:49it down.
04:57As you can see, Kratos is wrestling the troll to the ground.
05:00And this is when his rage has just been unleashed.
05:02and when the player can manifest the rage and really do these kind of brutal takedowns.
05:10Mailboy!
05:13Wait!
05:14Do it!
05:20Off the ice!
05:22No!
05:26One of the things we're really striving for is this seamless, intimate experience for the player.
05:32Where we never want the player to sort of look away.
05:35And in order to do that, in the demo you can see that there's no camera cuts at all.
05:41And that allows us just for kind of immersing the player into that experience.
05:45Cinematic, gameplay cinematic, what have you.
05:48Kind of continuing on the theme of the story unfolding around the player at all times.
05:53We wanted to really spend time kind of with the new camera being so close.
05:59Allowing the environments to be really rich and detailed.
06:02And you know, without words communicating a whole ton about the story of life that existed in these spaces.
06:07Do not think of it as an animal.
06:11It is simply a target.
06:14Clear your mind.
06:20Exhale and release.
06:25Good.
06:26Throughout the adventure Kratos will be teaching the sun what it sort of means to survive in such a harsh,
06:32yet sort of, you know, beautiful Norse landscape.
06:34And survival is kind of a key theme that we're exploring.
06:38Through these sort of gameplay teaching moments, the sun will level up, so to speak, and that's where he's kind
06:46of learning these new abilities.
06:48And his character will progress as well through that.
06:54No.
06:55Finish what you started.
06:57Again, it all goes back to reimagining what the DNA, you know, the series was.
07:00Because at the time when the original games had, we, you know, we picked a tone that suited the game
07:04at that time.
07:05And now we're moving forward.
07:06And really, I mean, this is a game about a father and a son through a, you know, through a
07:11very dangerous, hostile Norse landscape.
07:14And I think through that journey, they'll experience similar moments to the ones that we witnessed in the demo.
07:19And it's really exploring and humanizing Kratos in a way that you haven't seen him before.
07:28Now, you are ready.
07:31For what?
07:37A new beginning.
07:38Thanks so much for checking out the God of War demo with us.
07:41We're super excited at Sony Santa Monica to only show, you know, share more details in the coming months.
07:47I mean, yeah, this is just the beginning.
07:49The, you know, it's, it's been saying this over and over again, but it's reimagining this and bringing it to
07:54fans across.
07:56And we have so much more to show in the future, so keep your eyes peeled.
08:08PS4 for the players.
