00:00Are there any public moments that you do look back on in those early days?
00:03I've been thinking a lot about 2016 and 2015.
00:07What's one that comes to your mind?
00:09Well, there's two.
00:10Okay.
00:10The AMAs.
00:17Oh, yeah. No, but Megan put me on the biggest stage in my career at my point.
00:23I'm so grateful for that moment.
00:25How many years ago was that now?
00:26That's like 11 years now.
00:28Were you there?
00:29I was not. I was in high school.
00:31Oh, I'm officially becoming unk.
00:33I'm really grateful for that moment.
00:35I had never performed on national TV like that before.
00:39We performed my song Marvin Gaye.
00:41I think the younger version of me used to, again, beat myself up.
00:45Like, why would I put a song out called Marvin Gaye?
00:47That was kitschy and stupid.
00:49It was fun.
00:50It was the number one record in the UK, somebody like that.
00:53And now I listen to it.
00:54I'm like, you know, at 34 years old, and I'm like, that's not that bad of a song.
00:57I like the snare drum. It's fun.
00:59It reminded me of when Instagram, you would scroll on Instagram and you'd get all the way to the bottom
01:04and it would say,
01:05okay, you've seen enough.
01:06That doesn't happen anymore, right?
01:08It's just an endless, we know what 100,000 people are doing all at once.
01:13I have good memories associated with that song.
01:15That was a good year.
01:162016, 2015 was a good year.
01:18Well, your album came out 2016.
01:20Mm-hmm.
01:21And I know about, I remember all those reviews, but you gotta understand, I had my voice on the biggest
01:29collaboration song in the world.
01:31It was the number one song for 12 weeks that I was a part of.
01:34And I'll tell you all about it when I see you again.
01:39After that song came out, it was an uphill battle to figure out who I was artistically.
01:45And I had to figure it out in front of millions of people.
01:49And then another guy with that says brother will deal with that.
01:50It's films over.
