00:00Enormous granite sarcophagi that weigh more than 70 tons.
00:06Mysterious monoliths inspired by flying crafts.
00:11And massive sphere-shaped stones that defy explanation.
00:33I've always said, you know something is important if it is built out of stone.
00:39Why? Because it could potentially last for not just centuries, but millennia.
00:46And that's exactly what we see in remarkable ancient constructions that have withstood the test of time.
00:54But in addition to the stone structures we see around the world,
00:57there are also mysterious monuments, strange objects, and secret spaces that defy explanation.
01:06Like in the case of a stone settlement that predates history as we know it.
01:17Abu Shireen, Iraq.
01:216,000 years ago, this ancient mound was the site of Eridu,
01:25the oldest city of the Sumerian Empire.
01:30According to mainstream archaeologists, this is the cradle of civilization.
01:36Many archaeologists will say civilization began in Mesopotamia some 6,000 years ago.
01:43It is built on small bands of hunter-gatherers who adopt agriculture.
01:49The population starts to grow, and we begin to recognize we need to organize our communities.
01:57You start seeing these step-sided pyramids where the religious practitioner might conduct his rites or rituals and so on.
02:07And we have an urban planning environment that also means we've got a lot of engineering going on.
02:15We have a lot of science, a lot of mathematics.
02:18It has all of those elements we would call a civilization.
02:25Many researchers around the world believe there is evidence to suggest civilization existed on Earth long before the Sumerians.
02:34And one key source is the writing of the Sumerians themselves.
02:39Ancient cuneiform tablets list kings who ruled tens of thousands of years ago.
02:45And they tell of an earlier age, when humans lived among powerful beings that came down from the sky, called
02:53the Anunnaki.
02:55The Anunnaki were the builder gods behind the creation of the civilizations of Sumer and Babylon.
03:04They provided humanity with the rudiments of civilization.
03:08They gave humanity animal husbandry, but also agriculture for the first time.
03:16The Sumerians also wrote that the Anunnaki were responsible for bringing a devastating cataclysm upon the Earth.
03:25Eerily similar to the story that would later appear in the Hebrew Bible as the Great Flood.
03:32While nearly identical stories of a great deluge can be found in the ancient texts of many religions and cultures,
03:40mainstream archaeologists had argued that there was no evidence of any civilization existing more than 6,000 years ago
03:47to support the idea that such a cataclysm actually took place.
03:52But in the early 1990s, Klaus Schmidt of the German Archaeological Institute
03:58began excavations at the ancient site of Gobekli Tepe in southeast Turkey.
04:04And what he unearthed changed everything.
04:10Once Klaus Schmidt started excavating Gobekli Tepe, it just blew everybody away.
04:15Because we'd never before known or imagined even that people who 12,000 years ago
04:20could produce such spectacular monumental structures as you found at Gobekli Tepe.
04:26It is the first archaeological site in the world that proves its age dating as far back as 12,000
04:36years,
04:37around 10,000 B.C.
04:39The discovery and the official acceptance of Gobekli Tepe's dating has changed the history of archaeology.
04:49This is indications of a major civilization at that remote time,
04:56a time when the standard historians all along have said,
05:00well, no, civilization didn't occur at that time.
05:03They were just simple hunter and gatherers.
05:06They were primitive people, but we now have evidence to the contrary.
05:10It really did send shockwaves through the whole world of early prehistory
05:14because we have never, ever seen anything like this from anywhere in the world at that time, 12,000 years
05:20ago.
05:22Gobekli Tepe's nearly two dozen enormous T-shaped pillars,
05:27some weighing more than 20 tons,
05:30feature numerous carvings that include depictions of animals,
05:34human hands,
05:36and intricately designed symbols.
05:40Archaeologists estimate that it would have taken a team of 50 men an entire week
05:45to move just one of the monolithic pillars from the limestone quarry
05:49to the top of the hill where they stand today,
05:52and over 300 hours to carve the bas-reliefs.
05:57The structures seem to reflect coordinated effort among significant numbers of people,
06:05which is not how we typically imagine hunter-gatherer societies,
06:09which are usually smaller in size.
06:12For years, mainstream scholars maintained that Gobekli Tepe was a completely unique site,
06:19and while highly impressive,
06:22it was not large enough to constitute what would be considered a civilization.
06:26But then, in 2004, author Andrew Collins was shown photographs of a location
06:33that looked remarkably similar to parts of Gobekli Tepe.
06:37I was visiting Gobekli Tepe and some children came up to me
06:42and showed me a picture of this T-shaped standing stone
06:47with this snake along the side.
06:49And I thought, I've never seen this before.
06:52Where is this?
06:53And it became clear that it was some unexcavated site
06:58in the Tek Tek Mountains,
07:00which is about 25 miles away from Gobekli Tepe.
07:04And so I set out to find it.
07:08And eventually, I came to this bare limestone hill.
07:13And as I walked up towards it,
07:15I could then see, sticking out of the ground,
07:19these heads of these T-shaped pillars,
07:23again, exactly as you see at Gobekli Tepe.
07:25And I realised that somewhere beneath this soil
07:29was something as grand and spectacular as Gobekli Tepe.
07:33For 15 years, only a small group of researchers
07:38were aware of the pillars protruding from the earth
07:40at the site known as Karahan Tepe.
07:43When it was finally excavated,
07:46archaeologists were shocked once again.
07:48In 2019, digging begins.
07:53And beneath the surface layers,
07:57the archaeologists start uncovering dozens of these T-shaped pillars.
08:03You have about 200 of these T-shaped megaliths.
08:08They're typically 13 feet high, weigh about 11 tons.
08:13You have other phallic stones.
08:15You have certain depictions of animals and some human faces as well.
08:21So we have, really, a pretty extensive site.
08:27The discovery of the vast megalithic complex
08:30made headlines around the world,
08:32as it was estimated by experts to have been inhabited
08:36somewhere between 11,000 and 12,000 years ago,
08:40just like Gobekli Tepe.
08:44Both Karahan Tepe and Gobekli Tepe
08:48are striking in beauty,
08:51striking in how massive and incredible those megaliths are.
08:57And, in my opinion, they are related.
09:00So, it's also possible that, at some point, a long time ago,
09:06that entire region was one gigantic city.
09:15Standing stones are some of the most mysterious monuments on Earth,
09:20many of which tower over 100 feet tall.
09:23But deep within a forest in Bosnia,
09:26several unusual monoliths have been discovered
09:29that are not only massive,
09:31they are almost perfect spheres.
09:37Zabidovich, Bosnia, 1999.
09:43Archaeologist Dr. Sam Osmanogic
09:46and a small team of researchers
09:48are hiking along the Bosnia River
09:51when they come upon an astonishing site.
09:54In the midst of the dense forest
09:56are massive boulders that do not appear
09:59to be a part of the natural landscape.
10:02We discovered six of them intact,
10:06perfectly preserved,
10:07and perfectly spherical.
10:10To Dr. Osmanogic,
10:12the near-perfect shape of the objects is compelling.
10:16And he begins to comb the region
10:18in search of other stone spheres.
10:21We have been researching the stone spheres in Bosnia
10:25for 25 years.
10:28And we have discovered 20 different locations.
10:34Stone spheres in Bosnia
10:36come in four different materials.
10:39Granite,
10:40volcanic stone,
10:42sandstone,
10:43and limestone.
10:45And different sizes also.
10:47In most cases,
10:48they are over one ton.
10:52After his initial discovery
10:54of the stone spheres,
10:56Dr. Osmanogic expanded his search.
10:58And in 2016,
11:00he spotted
11:01the most enormous stone sphere
11:03he had ever seen
11:04hidden in the forest floor.
11:06We could see that
11:08the small part
11:09of the sphere
11:10was sticking out.
11:12We started clearing it,
11:14realizing
11:14that it was huge,
11:17monumental in size.
11:19Once we cleared
11:20almost all of it,
11:22we've done the measurements.
11:25It is more than
11:26three meters in diameter.
11:29The specific wave,
11:3137 tons.
11:34So,
11:34this was the largest
11:36stone sphere discovery
11:38in the world.
11:42How the Bosnian stone spheres
11:44were created
11:45remains a mystery.
11:47Some geologists suggest
11:48they were shaped
11:49through erosion.
11:51But others believe
11:52the spheres
11:53are simply too perfect
11:55to have been formed naturally.
11:58There is a process
12:00called spherical
12:01or spheroidal weathering
12:03that is
12:04very, very common.
12:07We see them
12:08on the landscape
12:08in Arizona,
12:10everywhere,
12:10called hoodoos.
12:12You can see them
12:13out in Alabama hills,
12:14out in Owens Valley.
12:16There's a lot of examples
12:17of this sort of
12:17sphere weathering.
12:18But rarely
12:20are they perfect spheres.
12:21And so,
12:22it could be
12:23that some of these stones
12:24started out
12:24mostly spheroidal
12:26and then were worked
12:27into a
12:29more perfect sphere.
12:32The one in particular
12:33that I'm thinking of,
12:35Bosnia,
12:35that's been
12:36in the headlines lately
12:38has evidence
12:39of heat treating
12:40to help facilitate
12:41polishing.
12:43These are not just
12:44round stones.
12:46They are
12:4696% perfect
12:49in their spherical form.
12:51That's not something
12:51that's created
12:52by the Earth.
12:54The near-perfect
12:55measurements
12:56of the stone spheres
12:57convinced Dr. Osmanogic
12:59that they were carved
13:00by artificial means.
13:03And in 2016,
13:04he sparked controversy
13:06when he announced
13:07that he believed
13:09they originated
13:10with some
13:10unknown civilization.
13:13Who made them?
13:15We don't have
13:16precise answer,
13:17but we know
13:18that they were
13:18made
13:19by ancient builders.
13:21white granite
13:23never comes
13:24in spherical shape
13:26in nature.
13:28If the stone spheres
13:30are not
13:31naturally formed,
13:32as Dr. Osmanogic
13:33suggests,
13:34when were they made?
13:37Many of the spheres
13:38are impossible
13:39to scientifically date,
13:41but based on
13:42the layers of soil
13:43where the largest
13:44stone sphere
13:45was discovered,
13:46Dr. Osmanogic
13:47believes
13:48it is up to
13:49100,000 years old.
13:52We don't have
13:53a very specific time,
13:54but what we do know
13:56is extremely old.
13:57How do we know that?
13:59The Bosnian stone sphere,
14:01the biggest one,
14:02is discovered below.
14:04The tree,
14:0550 years.
14:07Dark soil,
14:09100 years.
14:10Light soil,
14:12couple of hundred years.
14:13We have light clay,
14:16almost 1,000 years.
14:17We have dark clay,
14:18we have gray clay,
14:19tens of thousands
14:20of years,
14:21and finally,
14:21we have sandstone
14:23played,
14:24100,000 plus years.
14:29Is it possible
14:30that the stone spheres
14:31in Bosnia
14:32were created
14:33by some unknown culture
14:35tens of thousands
14:36of years ago?
14:37And if so,
14:39how?
14:41According to the mainstream
14:42archaeologists,
14:43until a couple of
14:44thousands of years back,
14:45the only tools were
14:46copper tools.
14:48Copper is soft material.
14:51You cannot use
14:52copper tools
14:53to shape
14:54granite stones.
14:55Of course,
14:56this is us,
14:5721st century civilization.
15:00What did they use?
15:02To try and understand
15:04how these artifacts
15:05were shaped,
15:06Dr. Osmanogic
15:07had several samples
15:08taken from the spheres
15:09analyzed in a lab
15:11at the University
15:12of Belgrade
15:12in Serbia.
15:14We realized
15:15that there is
15:16a difference
15:16between their physical
15:18and chemical properties
15:19and natural
15:21stone materials.
15:23There is a chemical
15:25component
15:25that was found
15:26within the spheres,
15:27and this chemical
15:28has not been able
15:30to be identified.
15:32If the giant stone spheres
15:34in Bosnia
15:35were created
15:36by an ancient civilization,
15:38what purpose
15:39did they serve?
15:41The precise engineering
15:43of the monoliths
15:44and the fact
15:45that many are made
15:46of granite
15:46has convinced
15:47Dr. Osmanogic
15:48that the stone sphere's
15:50true purpose
15:51was to transmit
15:52earth energy
15:52that occurs
15:53in the region.
15:55It seemed
15:56that they had
15:57multi-layered purpose.
16:00According to
16:00the new science,
16:02biogeometry,
16:04three most powerful
16:05geometrical shapes
16:06when it comes
16:07to the energy
16:08are
16:08four-sided pyramid,
16:12conical shape,
16:13and the third one
16:14is the sphere.
16:16Those three geometrical shapes
16:18amplify the energies.
16:21Dr. Samir Azmanigic
16:23talks about
16:24the use of these spheres
16:26as potentially
16:27small power supplies.
16:29And this makes sense
16:30when you look at them
16:31in context
16:32with the rest of Bosnia.
16:34When you're sitting
16:35in this creek bed
16:37surrounded by these spheres,
16:38it's hard to describe,
16:40but it does feel powerful.
16:43It feels like
16:44it is generating energy.
16:5020 miles south
16:52of the Great Pyramids
16:53of Giza
16:54lies an astonishing
16:55structure
16:56called the Serapium.
16:57Built underground,
16:59the Serapium
17:00is larger
17:01than two football fields.
17:03But the most
17:04extraordinary part
17:06of the subterranean
17:07complex
17:07are two dozen
17:09giant stone boxes
17:11that appear
17:12to have been created
17:13with advanced technology.
17:19Saqqara, Egypt.
17:22Inside the mysterious
17:23subterranean structure
17:25known as
17:25the Serapium
17:26are 24 massive boxes
17:29that are carved
17:30from exceptionally hard stone
17:32like granite,
17:34basalt,
17:34and diorite.
17:36Each sarcophagus
17:38was over 70 tons.
17:4270 tons
17:42is not a weight
17:44that 200 people
17:45can carry.
17:46It is an impossible
17:48weight
17:49to move
17:50anywhere,
17:52let alone
17:52100 feet
17:54under the ground
17:56and then 700 feet
17:58into a tiny corridor
17:59and then inside
18:01a little chamber.
18:03if you think
18:03of a pyramid
18:04or a temple
18:05it's in the open air.
18:06If you're hauling
18:07a big block
18:08of stone
18:08or an obelisk
18:10you've got space
18:11to get teams
18:12of people
18:12you can get
18:13draft animals
18:13on it.
18:15But the thing
18:16that really
18:17startles me
18:18they did have
18:19the space
18:19to get huge
18:20teams of men
18:21to stop moving them
18:22and couldn't
18:23get animals
18:24down there
18:24after any
18:25practical intent.
18:27Just as baffling
18:28as how the
18:29ancient Egyptians
18:30managed to move
18:31these giant boxes
18:32is how they were
18:34able to carve them
18:34with such
18:35incredible precision.
18:38Machinists
18:38have gone in there
18:39with tools
18:41to measure
18:41just how
18:42precisely
18:43carved
18:44they were.
18:45We're talking
18:46in some cases
18:47to the thousands
18:48of an inch
18:49right angles
18:50which are
18:50incredibly perfect.
18:53Now you need
18:54sophisticated
18:55technology for this
18:57because
18:57in some cases
18:59we're talking
19:00about basalt.
19:01Basalt is
19:02harder than
19:04granite
19:04and according
19:05to what we know
19:06the ancient Egyptians
19:07only had bronze
19:09and copper tools.
19:10It is wishful
19:12thinking
19:12to suggest
19:13that you can
19:14cut basalt
19:15with copper.
19:17You just
19:17can't do it.
19:19but the surface
19:20is as if
19:21you're touching
19:22glass.
19:24So to me
19:25it's possible
19:26that the ancient
19:27Egyptians
19:27figured out a way
19:29to vitrify
19:30stone.
19:33What compelled
19:35the ancient Egyptians
19:36to place 24
19:37enormous
19:38and precisely
19:39crafted stone
19:40boxes
19:40deep beneath
19:41the earth?
19:42Based on
19:43inscriptions
19:44found within
19:45the underground
19:45chamber
19:46Egyptologists
19:47determined
19:48that the
19:49serapium
19:49was built
19:50to be the
19:50burial place
19:51of the
19:52sacred
19:52Apis
19:53bowl.
19:56The ancient
19:57Egyptians
19:57believed that
19:58animals and
19:59gods had
20:00special
20:00relationships
20:01and each
20:02deity was
20:03associated
20:03with one
20:04particular
20:04animal.
20:07The Apis
20:08bowl is
20:08related to
20:09the Egyptian
20:09god
20:10Pata
20:10who was
20:11a major
20:12creator
20:13god.
20:13he was
20:14the god
20:14of Memphis
20:15the capital
20:15city.
20:16He was
20:16the god
20:17of all
20:17craftsmen.
20:18The Apis
20:19bull was
20:20one of
20:21the most
20:22sacred
20:22animals in
20:24all of
20:24ancient Egypt.
20:25But here
20:26is the
20:26thing.
20:27When August
20:28Mariette opened
20:29the sarcophagus
20:31they were empty.
20:32There was nothing
20:33in there.
20:34What Egyptologists
20:35will speculate
20:36is that
20:37somehow
20:38the
20:38serapium
20:39was
20:40looted
20:41in antiquity
20:42and the
20:42mummified
20:43bulls were
20:44removed
20:44from the
20:45sarcophagi.
20:47But who
20:48would want
20:48a mummified
20:49bull?
20:51Were the
20:52giant stone
20:52containers
20:53in the
20:53serapium
20:54simply designed
20:55to hold
20:56the remains
20:56of an
20:57Apis
20:57bowl?
20:58Some
20:58researchers
20:59believe
20:59that these
21:00massive objects
21:01served an
21:02entirely
21:02different
21:03purpose.
21:05Most
21:06of these
21:07boxes
21:07have no
21:08inscriptions
21:09on them
21:09but there's
21:10one in
21:10particular
21:10that has
21:11a lot
21:11of
21:11hieroglyphics
21:12all over
21:13it.
21:14Those
21:15inscriptions
21:15are incredibly
21:16crude
21:17compared to
21:19the finesse
21:20the precision
21:21of the
21:21actual stone
21:23boxes.
21:24So this
21:24leads me
21:25and I'm not
21:26alone in
21:27this to
21:27suggest that
21:28these boxes
21:29go back
21:30to a much
21:31earlier
21:31period
21:32and they
21:33were being
21:33reused
21:34and reappropriated
21:36at a much
21:37later
21:37time.
21:38It's
21:39thought
21:39by some
21:40researchers
21:40that the
21:41seropium
21:42was used
21:43at a later
21:44date
21:44for the
21:46mummified
21:46Apis
21:47bulls
21:47but the
21:49seropium
21:49itself
21:49predates
21:51this
21:51and its
21:52original
21:52purpose
21:53was for
21:53something
21:54else.
21:55So what
21:56was the
21:56seropium
21:57for?
21:58While the
21:59purpose of
21:59the stone
22:00boxes continues
22:01to perplex
22:02researchers
22:02some
22:03believe
22:04clues
22:04can be
22:04found
22:05by examining
22:06the contents
22:06of another
22:07box found
22:08in the
22:09seropium
22:09one
22:10not made
22:11of stone
22:11but wood.
22:15Saqqara,
22:16Egypt
22:171851
22:20After discovering
22:2124 massive
22:22stone sarcophagi
22:23within the
22:24seropium
22:25Auguste
22:26Mariette
22:27comes upon
22:27a much
22:28smaller coffin
22:29made of
22:29wood.
22:30There is a
22:31body inside
22:32it and
22:34at first
22:34glance
22:34it appears
22:36human.
22:38He came
22:39across a
22:40very unique
22:41burial.
22:42It looked
22:43human and
22:44yet when
22:45the bones
22:45were examined
22:46they were
22:47actually found
22:48to be those
22:49of a
22:50bull.
22:51Mariette
22:52found no
22:53head of a
22:53bull but
22:54just bits
22:56of bone
22:56of a
22:57bull
22:57wrapped up
22:58and then
22:59sort of
22:59a mask
23:00of a
23:00human
23:01being
23:01on it.
23:04Egyptologists
23:04assumed
23:05that the
23:06mask must
23:06belong to
23:07the builder
23:07of the
23:08seropium
23:08and determined
23:10the face
23:10it depicts
23:11is that
23:11of a
23:12prince who
23:12lived in
23:13the 13th
23:13century BC
23:14named
23:16Haemwezi.
23:17People
23:18think that
23:19the person
23:19who built
23:20the seropium
23:21was Prince
23:22Haemwezi.
23:23Haemwezi
23:24was the
23:24fourth son
23:25of King
23:25Ramses II.
23:27He was
23:28in charge
23:28of the
23:29temple
23:29of
23:29Patah
23:30and also
23:31therefore
23:31the temple
23:31of the
23:32Apis
23:32Bull
23:32in the
23:34capital
23:34city
23:34of
23:35Memphis.
23:37Archaeologists
23:37also discovered
23:39evidence that
23:40the only two
23:41bulls found
23:41in the
23:42seropium
23:42were put
23:43there by
23:44Prince
23:44Haemwezi
23:45around 1200
23:46BC.
23:48He has
23:49a couple
23:50of sarcophagi
23:51down there
23:52that he had
23:53put Apis
23:54Bull mummies
23:55in them
23:55and he wrote
23:56that on a
23:57little tablet
23:58next to that
23:59specific chamber
24:00that he added
24:02to the place
24:03and he added
24:03to the seropium.
24:05This was a
24:06typical thing
24:07in ancient
24:07Egypt
24:07because many
24:09of the monuments
24:10in Egypt
24:11were thousands
24:11of years old
24:12even for them.
24:13So the idea
24:14that the seropium
24:15is actually
24:16much older
24:17than even
24:18we think
24:18it is
24:19is a
24:20pretty valid
24:21theory.
24:27Two of the
24:28largest monoliths
24:30on the planet
24:30can be found
24:31in Japan
24:32and perhaps
24:33even more
24:34compelling
24:34than the size
24:35of these
24:35mysterious monuments
24:37are the local
24:38legends that say
24:39they were created
24:40to honor
24:41otherworldly beings
24:42who traveled
24:44in flying craft.
24:48One of the
24:49greatest mysteries
24:50of the ancient
24:51world
24:51is why
24:53enormous stone
24:54structures
24:54appear on nearly
24:56every continent
24:58and at one time
24:59megalithic monuments
25:01could be found
25:02throughout the islands
25:03of Japan.
25:05Not many people
25:06know this
25:06but ancient Japan
25:07was strewn
25:08with megaliths
25:09and hinges.
25:11The ancient peoples
25:12of Japan
25:12had these stone
25:13monuments
25:13all over the place.
25:15During the samurai
25:16era
25:17which was war
25:18all the time
25:18most of them
25:20were ripped up
25:21and used to make
25:21castle walls
25:22and castle foundations.
25:24some survive
25:25because they're
25:25so weird.
25:28Perhaps the most
25:29curious
25:29and awe-inspiring
25:31of Japan's
25:32megaliths
25:32is Ishii no Hoden
25:34a giant stone
25:36monument
25:36near Osaka
25:37carved out of
25:39the bedrock
25:39and believed
25:40to date back
25:4116,000 years.
25:44The Ishii no Hoden
25:45megalith
25:46is
25:47sometimes called
25:48the heavenly
25:49floating rock.
25:49It's huge
25:51probably around
25:51500 tons.
25:53It's about
25:54a 20-foot
25:55square
25:56cube
25:57that has been
25:59built in such
26:00a strange way
26:01that
26:02underneath it
26:03there's a
26:04base
26:04that holds it
26:05up above
26:06the ground
26:06so it appears
26:08for all the world
26:08to be hovering
26:09in the air.
26:10It is said
26:11to commemorate
26:13a god
26:14that once
26:15came to Earth
26:16in a huge
26:17cubic-shaped object
26:19and landed
26:20somewhere
26:21in that area.
26:22In Japanese
26:24mythologies
26:26and legends
26:26it says
26:27that long ago
26:28physical gods
26:30were amongst
26:31our ancestors
26:33that had
26:34the capability
26:35of flying
26:36or of flight.
26:38So the fact
26:40that they used
26:41this water
26:42mirror
26:43underneath
26:44the stone
26:45to show
26:46as if
26:47it is
26:47hovering
26:48and floating
26:49in the air
26:50to me
26:52is to signify
26:53flight.
26:55Curiously
26:56Ishinohoden
26:58is not the only
26:59Japanese megalith
27:00that appears
27:01to document
27:02an ancient
27:03extraterrestrial
27:04visitation.
27:06The Masuda
27:08no Iwafune
27:08which translates
27:10to the
27:10stone ship
27:12of Masuda
27:12is another
27:13megalithic structure
27:14this is an
27:16even larger
27:17granite
27:17megalith
27:1930 feet
27:20across
27:20and about
27:2120 feet
27:22in width
27:23and 15
27:24or so
27:25in height
27:25that has
27:26a central
27:27depression
27:28or trough.
27:30This monolith
27:31is said
27:33to have marked
27:33the Earth
27:34side
27:35of a
27:36so-called
27:36floating bridge
27:37that connected
27:38Earth
27:39to the heavens.
27:41now
27:42what is
27:43a floating
27:43bridge?
27:44It's described
27:45as something
27:46that the
27:47gods descend
27:48in.
27:49There is a
27:49story in
27:50Shinto
27:51Annals
27:52about
27:52the bridge
27:53that unites
27:54the earthly
27:55realm
27:56with the
27:56heavenly realm
27:57collapsing
27:58and falling
27:59onto the
28:00Earth.
28:01So these
28:01megaliths
28:02according to
28:02some
28:02are the
28:03remnants
28:04or the
28:04building blocks
28:05of this
28:05celestial
28:06bridge
28:07that has
28:08since collapsed.
28:10This floating
28:11bridge sounds
28:12exactly like
28:13the bridge
28:14bifrost
28:15of the
28:15Nordic
28:15tradition
28:16upon which
28:17the gods
28:18would come
28:18and go
28:18from the
28:19Earth
28:19into the
28:19heavenly realms
28:20or Asgard.
28:21This suggests
28:22that the
28:23same people
28:23are descending
28:25to these
28:25various cultures.
28:28Might the
28:29Ishinohoden
28:30and Masuda
28:31no Iwafune
28:32megaliths
28:32have an
28:33extraterrestrial
28:34connection?
28:36Ancient
28:37astronaut theorists
28:38say yes
28:38and suggest
28:40the most
28:41intriguing
28:41of Japan's
28:42megalithic
28:43structures
28:43can be found
28:45beneath the
28:46sea.
28:49On the
28:50western tip
28:51of the
28:51Japanese
28:52archipelago
28:52lies the
28:53tiny island
28:54of Yonaguni.
28:56In 1986
28:58scuba divers
28:59exploring just
29:00off the
29:01coast
29:01make a
29:02shocking
29:02discovery.
29:0460 feet
29:05beneath the
29:06ocean surface
29:07they find
29:07a massive
29:08rectangular
29:09structure
29:09roughly
29:10328 feet
29:12long
29:12and 196
29:14feet wide.
29:15It has
29:16since become
29:17known as
29:18the Yonaguni
29:19monument.
29:21the Yonaguni
29:23monument is
29:24huge and it
29:26looks for all
29:27the world like
29:27an artificial
29:28construction.
29:30There are
29:31steps, there are
29:32what appear to be
29:33columns and all
29:35sorts of geometric
29:36formations that
29:38seem to have been
29:39artificial
29:40constructions.
29:41Professor Masaaki
29:44Kimura spent
29:45ten years
29:46examining the
29:48structure with
29:50divers and the
29:51most sophisticated
29:52equipment at the
29:53time and he was
29:55convinced beyond
29:56any doubt that it
29:57was an artificial
29:58formation.
30:01Yonaguni boggles
30:03the mind because
30:04at some point that
30:07was a land bridge
30:09that existed when
30:10the water levels
30:11were lower and
30:12that means we're
30:13talking around the
30:13last ice age which
30:15was 10,000 or so
30:16BC.
30:17Now that means
30:19that back then a
30:21culture must have
30:22existed to carve
30:25Yonaguni the way
30:26it appears today.
30:31For ancient
30:32astronaut theorists
30:33the mythology found
30:35throughout ancient
30:36cultures of sky gods
30:38visiting earth to
30:39instruct humans could
30:41be evidence of our
30:42ancestors witnessing
30:43misunderstood
30:46extraterrestrial
30:46technology.
30:47For example a
30:493,000 year old
30:50stone carving found
30:52in Mesoamerica looks
30:53so much like a pilot
30:55in a cockpit that
30:56this mysterious
30:57monument is often
30:58called the
30:59La Venta
31:00astronaut.
31:04Teotihuacan,
31:05Mexico.
31:07At the southern
31:08end of this ancient
31:09metropolis stands the
31:11temple of the
31:12feathered serpent.
31:13Its magnificent
31:14facade is embellished
31:16with numerous ornate
31:17stone statues of a
31:19snake head ringed in
31:20feathers.
31:21This visage depicts
31:23one of the most
31:24prominent gods worshipped
31:25throughout Mesoamerica,
31:27a being known to the
31:28Aztecs as
31:30Quetzalcoatl.
31:32Quetzalcoatl was
31:33undoubtedly one of the
31:35major gods for
31:37multiple civilizations
31:38in Mesoamerica.
31:40A particular
31:42characteristic of the
31:43Quetzalcoatl is the
31:45feathers on the bottom
31:46of his body that
31:48really denote the
31:49deity.
31:51Quetzalcoatl is one of
31:53the, if not the,
31:54primary Mesoamerican
31:55god.
31:56He's a god of light,
31:57a god of wisdom,
31:58a god of healing.
31:59And ultimately,
32:01a peacemaker.
32:03In their codices,
32:05the Aztecs write about
32:07Quetzalcoatl,
32:08teaching their ancestors
32:09various disciplines that
32:11were essential to
32:12establishing their vast
32:13civilization.
32:16Quetzalcoatl descended
32:17from the sky in
32:18physical form and
32:20taught the local
32:22populations in different
32:23scientific disciplines,
32:25like mathematics,
32:28agriculture,
32:29medicine,
32:31writing,
32:32all these different
32:33things.
32:34It's interesting to see
32:36that this is not the
32:37only place where in
32:39ancient mythology the
32:41same takes place,
32:42because there are other
32:43cultures around the
32:44world that also refer to
32:47teacher gods who
32:48descended from the sky.
32:51throughout the ancient
32:53world, stories can be
32:54found of powerful
32:56beings who came from
32:57the stars and shared
32:58wisdom with early
32:59humans to help
33:00jumpstart civilization.
33:03In Egypt, the god
33:05Pata shared knowledge
33:07of technology and
33:08metalworking.
33:09Prometheus taught the
33:11ancient Greeks how to
33:12wield fire.
33:14And the world's first
33:15civilization, the
33:17Sumerians, wrote that
33:18they were visited by
33:19divine teachers known
33:21as the Anunnaki.
33:23In the Sumerian
33:25tradition, one of the
33:27gods, Enlil, teaches
33:28human beings about
33:29agriculture, teaches
33:30human beings how to
33:31plow into the ground
33:33and plant seeds.
33:34It's the gods who show
33:36human beings how to use
33:38technology, how to create
33:40this technology.
33:40This idea that there
33:43were teacher gods a long
33:45time ago, the ancient
33:47astronaut theory suggests
33:49that our ancestors were
33:51all visited by the same
33:52teachers, the same
33:54extraterrestrials.
33:56Could Kensalquatl represent
33:58an extraterrestrial visitor
34:00who helped to establish
34:02civilization in Mesoamerica?
34:05According to ancient
34:06astronaut theorists, support
34:08for this notion can be
34:10found not only in the
34:11Aztec codices, but also
34:14by examining a number of
34:16curious depictions of the
34:17feathered serpent god.
34:23La Venta, Mexico, 1955.
34:29American archaeologists,
34:31Philip Drucker and Robert
34:33Heiser begin an excavation
34:35of an Olmec pyramid mound.
34:38North of the main pyramid,
34:40they unearth a mysterious
34:41carved stela that they date
34:43to around 1200 B.C.
34:46Now known as Monument 19,
34:49it is believed by many to be
34:51the oldest depiction of
34:52Quetzalcoatl ever discovered.
34:56La Venta Monument 19 is such
34:59an interesting and evocative
35:01piece of art that it's gotten
35:03a ton of names.
35:04One of them is the Rocket Man.
35:07It depicts this weird scenery
35:10of some guy enclosed inside
35:13a snake.
35:15And it's as if he's sitting
35:17on some sort of a seat.
35:20The guy's, you know,
35:21wearing some sort of a suit
35:22with a helmet.
35:24And he is, you know,
35:26just sitting inside this enclosure.
35:27In my opinion,
35:30it's an example
35:31of misunderstood technology.
35:34Monument 19
35:35is a representation
35:37of Quetzalcoatl,
35:39the teacher god,
35:40inside of a flying craft.
35:43Does Monument 19's
35:45unique depiction
35:46of Quetzalcoatl,
35:47not as a feathered serpent,
35:49but as a human-like figure,
35:50sitting within the body
35:52of a serpent,
35:53provide further evidence
35:55that he was a real-life visitor
35:56from another world.
35:59Curiously,
36:00the Olmecs
36:01weren't the only people
36:02to depict Quetzalcoatl
36:04in human form.
36:06There are also Maya
36:07and Aztec depictions
36:08of Quetzalcoatl
36:09that show a human face
36:11seeming to emerge
36:12from the mouth
36:13of a serpent.
36:16Now, according to
36:17Central American tradition,
36:19Quetzalcoatl is supposed
36:21to have descended
36:22from a star.
36:24He is represented
36:25as the feathered serpent,
36:28but also he is represented
36:30in the human form
36:32with the helmet.
36:34There are many
36:35of these representations
36:36of Quetzalcoatl.
36:38Quetzalcoatl was definitely
36:40an extraterrestrial.
36:46High in the mountains
36:47of Peru stands
36:48one of the most mysterious
36:50monuments on Earth.
36:51It's an ancient fortress
36:54with walls built
36:55from gigantic stones
36:57that are joined
36:58so tightly
36:59it'd be difficult
37:00to recreate them today.
37:02But for some researchers,
37:04the most compelling question
37:05isn't how
37:06the structure was created,
37:08but rather,
37:09when.
37:16Cusco, Peru,
37:18nestled in a high river valley
37:20of the Andes Mountains,
37:22among peaks
37:23towering over 20,000 feet,
37:26this once great city
37:27served as the capital
37:29of the Inca Empire
37:30from the 13th
37:31to 16th centuries A.D.
37:35In 1533,
37:36Spanish conquistadors
37:38arrived in Cusco
37:40and were astonished
37:41by the incredible stonework
37:43found at a site
37:44just north of the city
37:45called
37:46Sacsayhuaman.
37:49Above the city of Cusco,
37:51we find the megalithic site
37:52and huge ceremonial Inca complex
37:55called Sacsayhuaman.
37:57Its most prominent feature
37:59is a zigzag wall
38:01of three levels.
38:03Some of the stones there
38:03weigh as much
38:04as 125 tons
38:06and were removed
38:08from the quarry
38:08at least three miles away.
38:11Sacsayhuaman,
38:12one of the most beautiful
38:14ancient structures
38:15you will ever see
38:16in your life.
38:17There are massive,
38:19gigantic,
38:20megalithic blocks
38:21and you find
38:23the most amazing
38:25of masonry style
38:26where you can't even
38:27fit a dollar bill
38:29in between the fittings
38:30of any of the blocks.
38:34Sacsayhuaman
38:35served both
38:36as a fortress
38:36and a ceremonial center.
38:39A circular structure
38:41that lies within
38:42the megalithic walls
38:43called Mayukmarca
38:44was the base of a tower
38:46where the Inca
38:47worshipped the sun god
38:48Inti.
38:50However,
38:51many experts suggest
38:52that while the Inca
38:54certainly utilized
38:55this megalithic structure,
38:56they were not the ones
38:58to build it.
38:59Standard belief
39:00is that the Inca
39:01constructed Sacsayhuaman
39:03less than a thousand years ago.
39:07But some of the earliest
39:08Spanish chronicles,
39:10it is said
39:11that the Spanish
39:12were completely astounded
39:14by seeing this site
39:16and they asked the local Inca,
39:18did you build it?
39:19And the Inca replied,
39:21no,
39:22this was here
39:23when we arrived
39:24500 years ago.
39:27Many experts believe
39:29Sacsayhuaman
39:30predates the Inca
39:31by thousands of years
39:33and that the Inca
39:34built on top
39:35of what came before.
39:37The Inca
39:39were a Bronze Age
39:40civilization
39:40and the stones
39:42at Sacsayhuaman
39:43are metamorphosed
39:45limestone
39:46which is much harder
39:47than bronze
39:48and could not be cut
39:50or shaped
39:51using bronze tools.
39:53Inca built on top
39:55because you can tell
39:56a major difference
39:57between megalithic
39:58construction
39:59where the stones
40:00fit perfectly together
40:02and the Inca
40:03which is stones
40:03piled on top
40:04of stones
40:05with mortar
40:06as filler.
40:08But if Sacsayhuaman
40:10really does
40:11predate the Inca
40:12as the Inca
40:14themselves claimed,
40:15how could an
40:17even earlier
40:17civilization
40:18have possessed
40:19far superior
40:20technology?
40:22The ancient Inca
40:23talk about
40:24celestial beings
40:26who descended
40:27from the sky
40:28a long time ago
40:29and imparted
40:31the first knowledge
40:32of anything
40:32toward people
40:34of Earth.
40:36The ancient astronaut
40:37theory suggests
40:38it was human beings
40:40who built
40:41Sacsayhuaman
40:41but under the tutelage
40:44of the extraterrestrials.
40:48The remarkable
40:49engineering
40:50of the stone walls
40:51at Sacsayhuaman
40:52is just one
40:54of many fascinating
40:55enigmas
40:56that the ancient
40:56Peruvian site holds.
40:58And as we've seen,
41:00mysterious monuments
41:01come in all shapes
41:03and sizes
41:04from colossal
41:06megaliths in Japan
41:07and baffling stone
41:09spheres in Bosnia
41:10to giant stone boxes
41:13in Egypt.
41:14What they all have
41:16in common
41:16is that they were
41:17created to last
41:19for thousands
41:20of years
41:21perhaps to honor
41:22or to immortalize
41:25extraterrestrial contact
41:27in the distant past.
41:28In the distant past.
