00:10hubs and roads in the capital Jakarta growing increasingly congested ahead of the holiday
00:15this week. The mass movement marks the start of Eid celebrations at the end of the holy
00:20month of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. Indonesian authorities
00:26estimated last week that around 144 million people will travel across the
00:31archipelago. Crowds packed Pasar Senen train station as security staff worked to
00:37manage the heavy flow of passengers. More than 734,000 long-distance train tickets have
00:43been sold for the Eid travel season.
00:57It's cheap, it's hard, and it doesn't make a mess like a bus. Like a car, it's
01:08a mess. And it's more hard if it's now, it's expensive. It's higher than this year. The
01:18increase will reach 80 percent.
01:22Elsewhere, drivers formed long queues at petrol stations to fill their tanks before heading out of Jakarta.
01:28Cars have also been lining up at Merak Port to hop onto ferries en route to the neighboring island of
01:33Sumatra.
01:34Some drivers have expressed concern about rising fuel costs.
01:52There are a lot of our friends who are going to the countryside and will be able to find solutions
01:58and the price of bensin is cheap, and it can be worth it by the people of Indonesia.
02:04To ease the burden, the government has rolled out additional buses and trains, extended service hours, and maintained targeted fuel
02:12subsidies to help stabilize prices during the holiday season.
