00:13So Yakuza got its start in 2005 when it released for the PlayStation 2.
00:18Yakuza is a story about a Japanese criminal organization, of course,
00:22but it focuses heavily on one particular main character, Kazuma Kiryu.
00:29So Yakuza 0 is a prequel to the entire Yakuza series.
00:33It takes place in Japan of 1988 during the bubble economy.
00:37Everyone in Japan was pretty rich at the time.
00:40There's cash flowing through everyone's hands, and it's just generally a great time to be alive.
00:46The game switches between two protagonists.
00:49You have Kazuma Kiryu and you have Goro Majima.
00:51Every two chapters, you'll be switching between the two characters.
00:54Their plots are separate, of course, but as you'll slowly start to see,
00:58they do kind of intertwine in ways that make it a really interesting and compelling story.
01:02Kazuma Kiryu is our protagonist of the series, and he's only 20 years old at this point.
01:07He's been freshly inducted into the Dojima family,
01:10following in the footsteps of his father-like figure, Shintaro Kazama.
01:14He doesn't fully yet understand what it means to be Yakuza,
01:17and he's going to find out the hard way, kind of what that comes to mean.
01:30Goro Majima is our secondary protagonist.
01:32He is 24 years old at this point, and he's been exiled from the Yakuza.
01:36He defied a direct order from his Yakuza bosses and paid a pretty heavy toll for that.
01:42If I did that, I thought I'd be able to win that much.
01:47Majima is now kind of tasked with running this cabaret and making money for this man named Sagawa.
01:59And in exchange for making a certain amount of money, he will be admitted back into the Tojo clan,
02:04which is where Majima wants to be.
02:08However, Majima's making this look a little bit too easy.
02:10He's earning money kind of hand over fist, and as a result,
02:14his handler, Sagawa, tasks him with something a little bit harder.
02:19So he'll be playing as these two different characters, Majima and Kiryu.
02:22And Kiryu, by contrast to Majima, is a completely different man.
02:26Kiryu is kind of stoic and reserved, kind of sticks to his self more, he's a bit of a lone
02:32wolf.
02:32Whereas Majima is this super kind of sarcastic, business savvy kind of guy.
02:38And it's a weird place for him, because our fans, or fans of the Yakuza series,
02:42have only really known Majima as this kind of crazy, almost chaotic guy.
02:48And this is all happening before he becomes that.
02:51I don't know.
03:08This is really only the beginning of their stories, and in terms of the entire Yakuza series,
03:13this has never really been a better time to jump into the franchise.
03:16You get to see these characters kind of become legendary figures in the
03:20storyline of the overall kind of Yakuza series.
03:23And it's just generally a really cool story.
03:27It's a really cool place to see them become what they're going to become, and
03:32you're going to like it.
