00:01It was just that thing, this object in the game, almost godlike, and it meant that you, you had this
00:08ultimate power over, you know, your enemies and you could just slay them in one shot, one kill.
00:18As soon as we, we had the call from Bethesda saying, right, we want to make the BFG real, it
00:24was like, wow, this is incredible.
00:34It was a bit of a mammoth task to print such a giant gun.
00:43So the size of the gun, in lengthways, over a metre long, 50 centimetres in height and 50 centimetres in
00:49width.
00:50Usually what we normally do is we take reference images from the internet, from books, from, you know, wherever we
00:55can get them.
00:56But the lovely people at Bethesda sent us this, this file, we actually got the game asset.
01:02Kirby, the really talented designer who was in charge of making it, he actually had to get a very basic
01:07reference, a 3D model, and then build all the detail by himself.
01:17My name's Kirby Downey. I was tasked with actually creating it in 3D, slicing it up, getting ready for the
01:22printers and bringing it to life.
01:24Most people think, you know, a small printer can only print small things.
01:27I've taken a next step and I've made big things out of small printers.
01:31You know, splitting the model up into over 70 pieces, and then systematically going through each piece, printing that out,
01:37one by one, using multiple printers, and trying not to get lost with all the parts.
01:42It took roughly 35 hours to design it, and over a thousand hours of pure 3D printing, with lots of
01:49models having to be printed continuously for nearly a month.
01:56So you have your dry assembly, where we just kind of put together the model very loosely, kind of get
02:02the feel for the size and shape of it.
02:04Then you have the gluing and sticking of each part.
02:12So I've got to glue it all together, so it's all one big gun.
02:18So I'm Sarah Wade, and I'm head of post-processing at My Mini Factory.
02:22I finish all the prints that the designers do, I paint them so that they look as close as possible
02:27to the originals.
02:29I paint a lot of guns, that's mostly what I do.
02:40Making it was just a great, great project, good challenge as well.
02:45And being able to show 3D printing to the world through video games is something that I'm really happy that
02:51I could be a part of.
02:54indi are perfect, good challenge as well.
03:01With this Dgemony.com is a great idea of making this actual game and the game is a great idea
03:06of making this amazing game...
03:06...FaceUp.com is a great idea of making this very interesting game.
03:06Not just health, but even if you don't have any changes or anything, it's just going to be like it,
03:06OK.
03:06I know, you can definitely make it!
03:08Not just health, you will be right.
03:10Not just health, you will be right.
03:12Not just health, but I will have a beautiful situation at home, but it will be right.
