00:00maybe there's a chance that minnesota will try and pull it off in the same way i know that they
00:05would like to push 2026 into a year that they could legalize sports betting and look maybe if
00:11it's done with the tribal help that could be the way to get this done sam but it seems like
00:15they're
00:16a little bit further away than wisconsin is right now yeah minnesota is still trying to legalize
00:22sports betting uh there's a bill right now which does the same as every other bill for the last
00:27couple years has done which is you know allow the tribes to control the licenses and obviously
00:34allow them to partner with commercial sports books as well so similar to wisconsin with most of the
00:39money going towards charitable gaming and problem gaming but the reason it keeps falling short is
00:45because of a split between democrats and republicans again but this time it's about the republicans want
00:51the racetracks in the state to be involved or have wanted for years and the democrats have been very
00:56you know staunch and saying we want tribal exclusivity so that's really been the thing
01:01that's messed up this process uh it hasn't been a you know lawmakers being concerned about problem
01:07gambling hasn't been a fight over tax revenue which we've seen in other states it's really been
01:11about whether tribes get this exclusive control or whether these racetracks are involved now a lot
01:17of those republican senators represent you know counties where these racetracks exist so they have you
01:23know their interests they're supposed to defend um so we'll have to see how this kind of shakes out
01:27throughout the legislature interestingly enough at the same time the state is also trying to
01:31pass legislation that would quote unquote ban prediction markets like calci as well as sweepstakes
01:37casinos these are kind of you know the sports betting operators that are not regulated by the state that
01:42are existing right now taking the money in the state so i think that has obviously a much better
01:47prospect of passing than sports betting in general uh but we'll see if that shapes the debate at all
01:53we'll see if whether lawmakers bring up the fact that we're losing money to calci we're losing money
01:57to the offshore market it's happening already certainly a number of states have tried to stop
02:02these you know companies before and so far they've been allowed to exist while these court cases play out
02:07so i would hope if i'm you know an advocate for sports betting in minnesota that they'll bring that up
02:13and that'll be an argument towards legalizing but again it's a long legislative session we'll see
02:18how this takes shape you never know what could happen
02:20How this takes shape you never know what to Sid you don't know what to say
