00:05I've read some forums here and there, why Kip Ash et al?
00:10Or why make a practical model when you can just build it in CG?
00:13And really the honest to goodness answer to that is Titanfall walks, and Titanfall 2, walk a very fine line
00:20design-wise
00:21in trying to feel honest.
00:23The source material you're using keeps the design honest.
00:27You know, real world objects are never perfect.
00:29They're always a little bit crooked and stuff.
00:31It just looks a little bit more real that way.
00:33Because you're not working in a digital world and you're bound by physical rules, even though it's 1-6 scale,
00:40you get these happy accidents.
00:42You know, this part's in balance, this arm's a little bit bigger, this ear sticks out a little more over
00:48here,
00:48or this helmet's a little bit crooked, or the strap's doing this or that.
00:51It just adds a little bit of realism to things.
00:53You know, if we go back to Titanfall 1, we were at a point in the process where we were
00:57trying to figure out what to do.
00:59So the artists were doing a lot of 2D concepts and, you know, traditional concepting and stuff,
01:04and so it seemed like you could get a lot more done a lot faster if we kind of went
01:09with an old kitbash style.
01:10So if you're familiar with Titanfall, this was the very first maquette that we did.
01:15And actually, I can point to it as almost the birth of why Titanfall has giant robots in it.
01:20You know, this started out as a dive suit.
01:23It was supposed to be some power suit that these characters were going to go in and kind of clear
01:26out aliens or whatever,
01:27and then one of the designers and I were hanging out one day.
01:30He says, how about we put a little character on there and see what happens?
01:33And we had an aha moment, and we went in and talked to the other designers,
01:36and, you know, they were in the middle of trying to figure out what Titanfall was in the first place.
01:40And then what you saw in Titanfall 1 kind of evolved out of, you know, the Atlas Titan evolved out
01:44of this.
01:45So what you're about to see is a time-lapse that I did of this maquette right here,
01:49which is a lightweight pilot from the game.
01:52And pretty much this character is everything.
01:56It's vacuforming with a little vacuform machine.
01:58It's 3D printing.
01:59It's kitbash.
02:01It's wire work with tons of dremeling.
02:03And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse,
02:06but there might be a frame in there of me actually stabbing my finger pretty good
02:09and then learning how to use glue as a band-aid.
02:12So enjoy.
02:15And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
02:45And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:17And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:20And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:28And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:30And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:32And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:34And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:34And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:34And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:35And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:36And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:37And I think, I don't know if it's in the time-lapse.
03:42Grazie a tutti.
