Labor market reforms accelerate amid demographic growth

Uzbekistan is overhauling its labour market to better match skills with employer demand, expand vocational pathways and support enterprise growth, as demographic pressures raise the stakes for productivity, job creation and long-term economic expansion.

00:03unemployment is falling and young people are getting practical skills through
00:08vocational training and entrepreneurship programs Uzbekistan's labor market is

00:19show a continued decline in Uzbekistan's unemployment rate which fell to 4.9% in
00:26the third quarter of 2025 employment growth is increasingly concentrated in
00:31the services IT and manufacturing sectors while labor migration abroad remains a
00:37significant feature of the labor market in 2025 more than 4 million people secured
00:44income generating jobs including 1.29 million in agriculture 2.74 million in
00:51services more than one hundred seventy two thousand in construction and more
00:56than two hundred fifty six thousand through investment driven projects as of
01:01July 1st 2025 the number of private entrepreneurs had reached almost 300
01:06thousand while self-employment had expanded to 5.5 million individuals
01:13meanwhile the central bank warns that rapid population growth and a growing youth
01:19share may increase labor market pressure prompting Uzbekistan to rethink
01:24workforce development toward skills and flexibility here is more each year around

03:11Short-term courses, stipends, and targeted support are expanding access,
03:17particularly for women and underserved groups.
03:19In 2025, under the Youth Employment Programme,
