00:30Nobody ever played pirate by themselves
00:31While working on Black Flag, at the end of it, we tried to put two players together and it was
00:38just amazing
00:39Like that very simple experience, just two ships with those great cannons, all that firepower that you give to the
00:45player
00:46And you blow everything
00:51That was just super cool
00:53We already knew that something great could come out of that
00:57We're not making Black Flag 2.0, we're making our own game
01:01But we really went to school on what we've done in the past
01:04In this video, you'll learn what it takes to become a pirate kingpin
01:08How you'll craft your fleet to aid your allies and loot your enemies
01:12Why the Indian Ocean is the true home of piracy
01:15And how the team's experience and expertise from working on Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag
01:21Inspired them to embark on this ambitious new journey
01:30Our pirates are at the helm of a ship
01:31So we control a giant, tall ship across different classes of ships
01:35From a small sloop to a giant frigate
01:37The pirates themselves start out with one ship
01:40And over time they're going to collect more and more ships
01:42And that gives them lots of, like I said, playstyle options
01:45And ways to take on their enemies
01:47The other thing that gives them a chance to do
01:48Is to start to develop strengths in combat, in PvP
01:52With and against other players
01:55One of our very interesting class that we have today
01:59Is a sharpshooter
02:01Basically it's a long gun that is on a very small ship
02:05Ship that doesn't have a lot of defense
02:06But can shoot very, very far
02:09Extremely strong
02:10And we also have the frigate
02:12Which is able to basically sponge up damage
02:15And it's very deadly when it gets its broadsides
02:18You know, zeroed in on its target
02:22So our vision for our classes and our ship types
02:26Is very similar to traditional RPG archetypes
02:29So we want players to have a familiar system that they understand
02:32From playing other games and other genres
02:33We want to give the players opportunities to have lots of these different ships
02:37So I can, depending on my situation, switch between my ships
02:41To support my teammates or support my friends
02:44Or to betray my friend
02:46Or betray my former ally
02:48The combat that we wanted to bring
02:50Was multidimensional
02:52And one of the strong dimensions
02:54Is the positioning
02:55Which side of his hull is stronger than the other
02:58But also, what will be the direction and the position
03:02That will give him an advantage
03:03In terms of wind positioning
03:06The pivotal breakthrough for the experience of navigation and combat
03:10In Skull & Bones is using the wind and the ocean itself
03:13And for us, wind is that tactical layer
03:16That lays on top of our systemic ocean
03:18So wind is not just a navigation tool
03:20It's how you assess the situation
03:22It's used for positioning
03:23To be in the right position to strike
03:25It can be used both offensively and defensively
03:27It's a way for you to escape quicker
03:29And gain an advantage on your prey
03:31So we can read it
03:32Read it in every single element of the world
03:34Read it in the stream that you can see in the world
03:37Read it in the cells
03:39The way they are turning
03:40The way they are inflating
03:42The ability to position your ship
03:44So that you can bring your weapons to bear
03:46And all kinds of different weapons
03:48From mortars to rockets to cannons
03:52There are a lot of key things that you have to juggle
03:55You have the ability to go up to the crow's nest
03:57You have a much wider FOV
03:59Almost a 360 degree if you go around
04:02View of the environment
04:03That helps you make decisions
04:04Using the wind, the environment, and the position of your target
04:08Position fixed!
04:09Open fire!
04:12So when you're constantly learning the abilities of your ship
04:15Compounded by the weaknesses of your target
04:18You're even able to become a more deadly predator
04:24We want players to feel powerful
04:26But not all of the factions are toothless
04:30So when the player encounters these factions
04:33He'll have to make those decisions
04:35Is it a target I can take on by myself?
04:38Is it something where I've got to take down
04:41Using my friends?
04:42I've got to call some of my buddies and my gang
04:44And bring them online with me
04:46Or I'm not going to have a chance
04:49The world reacts
04:50And that's where our pirate hunters come in
04:52They represent the VOC
04:54And they have a vested interest
04:55In securing the safety of their merchant ships
04:57So the more thefts, the more heists that take place
05:00The more likely it is in the world and in loot hunt
05:02That the pirate hunter is going to respond
05:04And try to hold you accountable for robbing from them
05:07I will say that the pirate hunters are something you can't tackle by yourself
05:11And there's going to be lots of encounters like that
05:13In Skull and Bones where you have to work together with your friends
05:16But we'll wait and see
05:17I mean the idea is to put these things in a world that is logical and cohesive
05:22And I'm not going to say it's impossible
05:24I'm just saying don't try to do it by yourself
05:26I'm sure someone's going to try to do it
05:28Oh of course
05:28And somebody will be successful but that guy will be legendary
05:32The Indian Ocean was super compelling for us
05:35It's a different setting
05:36It has all the major ecosystems
05:38And so many different trade resources within the world
05:41That we could build a fantasy
05:42A very strong fantasy about how pirates operated
05:46And how pirates worked inside the Indian Ocean
05:49You have an ocean that has amazing trade winds
05:53Beautiful waters that change in color and texture
05:56And behavior from region to region
05:57It gives us a really huge canvas for us to tell our story
06:00We have a team who understand and live in the middle of the Indian Ocean
06:05And because you understand it you can smell it almost
06:09When we have the image on screen we know what it looks like in real life
06:12We know how it feels like
06:14We understand the world as it is in the Indian Ocean
06:18And I think that makes a lot of difference
06:20Our game is dominated by a lot of islands and shorelines and so on
06:26It's a bit close to what we have here in Singapore in terms of the environment
06:33It's very tropical
06:34There's a lot of beaches
06:35It's a subject matter that's a bit familiar to us here
06:39So we pay attention to the big picture
06:43From the big composition to lighting
06:46And all the way to the smaller details
06:48Like little swaying ropes and the subtle spray from the ocean
06:55The one thing the adventure to go on with you as the star
06:58You're at the at your pirate is the center of this game
07:01And then if every player is the center of the game
07:03We make these communities and we make their own stories
07:06And across different seasons across different time periods
07:10The game will the game will live on
07:12And we'll keep introducing new and unique content
07:15Different ships, different weapons, different items, different locations, different game modes
07:21And I think that's what makes Skull & Bones so special
07:23This idea that you can create your own gang
07:26You can have your own identity
07:27Your own flags, your own emblems, your own colors
07:29And you can go to war with each other
07:31And build your gang up to take over the whole Indian Ocean
07:45You can bring it with you
07:46You can bring it with me
07:48You can bring it with me
08:02I think that you can bring it with me
08:12Grazie a tutti.
