00:30in Squid Form
00:35From these poopy depths, a radical squid culture has emerged.
00:39Inklings have developed a taste for combat and competition,
00:42not to mention fashion.
00:44The ceremonial turf war is one such sport,
00:47in which two squid squads of four
00:49face off to see which team can cover the most turf with ink.
00:53This popular tradition isn't going anywhere,
00:55which remains as popular as Ranked Battle,
00:58where the very best teams and players compete online
01:01to achieve a higher rank and ultimate bragging rights.
01:06Here in Inkopolis Square,
01:08Inklings prepare for ritualistic face-splatting
01:10by equipping gear and weaponry.
01:12But it's not all doom and gloom.
01:14All squid gear is designed for both function and fashion.
01:18In fact, everything about Inkopolis lends to its reputation
01:22as the foremost happening place in the world.
01:24As you can see here,
01:26communal aspects of Inkling society are greatly valued,
01:29but so is individual expression.
01:31Nice shoes!
01:34Like other Sepulopods,
01:36Inklings can even choose their skin and eye color.
01:38But unlike regular squids,
01:40they have custom hairstyles and legwear too.
01:45The various clothing and shoes the squids are wearing
01:47is actually called gear,
01:49and has important roles in these battles too.
01:54Both looking good and good abilities
01:56are needed to be fashionable.
01:58Let's take a look at some gear.
02:02It takes more than style to win a turf war.
02:05Luckily, the Galleria, over on the left,
02:08houses a row of popular gear and weapon shops.
02:13Each item you acquire here has one or more abilities
02:16that should prove effective in battle.
02:17So, let's take a look inside, shall we?
02:26This is the headwear shop, Headspace.
02:30Got fashion on the brain?
02:32So does Flo.
02:33From hats to glasses,
02:35this sea slug carries it all.
02:39Though I must say,
02:41she's a bit of an odd one.
02:45Inklings like to think of her as their crazy old aunt.
02:52Ye Olde Cloth Shop is a clothing boutique
02:54run by a jellyfish named Gelfonzel.
02:58Unlike most jellyfish,
02:59he can speak the inkling language.
03:02But it's almost as if he learned to speak inkling
03:04by reading ancient inkling literature.
03:08His strange manner of speaking aside,
03:10the young squids of Inkopolis are crazy about his wares.
03:16Next up, the shoe shop, Shell Afresh.
03:19They have all kinds of footwear here.
03:22Sneakers, sandals, boots, you name it.
03:27And might I add that Bisque is the least
03:30crabby spider crab I've ever met.
03:33He's got an air of experience,
03:35and he's a pretty chill guy to,
03:37uh, well, to boot.
03:40Last but not least, let's hit up the weapon shop,
03:43Ammo Knights.
03:45You may recognize the horseshoe crab who runs the place.
03:48Sheldon has a gift for weapon design,
03:50and his uncanny ability to blather on about ink weaponry
03:54is second to none.
03:56Now, I know what you're thinking.
03:58If only you could tune out his weapon dissertations
04:00with the press of a button.
04:02Well, now you can!
04:04Sheldon's really outdone himself.
04:05I can't wait to study these weapons in greater detail.
04:12To start, weapons come in sets of three.
04:17A main weapon, a sub-weapon, and a special weapon.
04:24Let's examine some main weapons first.
04:27Your standard shooters are great for both splatting opponents
04:30and inking turf.
04:31There are many different types of shooters to choose from.
04:34Rollers are adept at inking turf quickly,
04:37and devastating at close range.
04:39They can steamroll opponents while rolling along the ground,
04:42or they can fling a wall of ink to keep opponents at bay.
04:46Chargers are long-range weapons well-suited for sniping distant foes.
04:50They have a long and narrow ink trajectory,
04:53which is ideal for creating ink lanes that your team can quickly swim through.
04:57But they're generally pretty slow at inking turf.
05:01Splatling cannons like chargers have to be charged up before unleashing a torrent of ink.
05:06But what a torrent it is!
05:08They're slow, though, and the long charging time leaves you vulnerable.
05:13Sloshers may be a rather unconventional weapon type,
05:15but there's no arguing with a full bucket of ink to the face.
05:19Blasters shoot out a ball of ink that explodes on impact or in mid-air.
05:23It's great for spotting opponents hiding behind corners.
05:30Each weapon and weapon type has its strengths and weaknesses,
05:33so you may want to shop around before you settle down.
05:39In Splatoon 2, some of the weapons have extra functionality that was not present in the first game.
05:44Chargers now let you keep your charge while swimming around in ink.
05:48Rollers can be swung vertically to increase your range.
05:53And the new dualies let you dodge roll.
05:55As you can see, some weapons open up some interesting maneuvers.
06:01But what good is R&D without the development part?
06:06Introducing the Clash Blaster.
06:09It has short range, but its high firing rate and explosive tendencies keep the enemy at bay.
06:17Introducing the Flings-a-Roller.
06:20Its horizontal swings are fast, and though its vertical swings take longer, they fling ink further too.
06:26Believe it or not, the roller changes shape depending on how you swing it.
06:30I wonder if shape-shifting has a special significance to inkants.
06:36Introducing the GooTuber.
06:39This one is special.
06:42It holds a charge for an extremely long time.
06:46And as a result, you can move to a better location while powered up and unleash a mighty sneak attack.
06:52Ka-chow!
06:55Introducing the Dapple Duelies.
06:57Even for a pair of Duelies, these things are incredibly light in weight.
07:01That way you spend less time dodge rolling and more time winning.
07:10But, what about sub-weapons?
07:13In addition to spreading ink and attacking, sub-weapons provide other abilities that help with both defense and reconnaissance.
07:21Some are really making waves with inklings.
07:24For instance, the Autobomb locates and hunts down enemies.
07:31The aptly named Coxic Mist can be thrown against, surrounding them in a harmful gas.
07:36And that's just the beginning.
07:38New sub-weapons are currently in development.
07:42A plethora of unexpected tactics are possible when you mix and match your weapon combinations.
07:47So, try them out and find what works for you.
07:51Ah, now for the all-new special weapons.
07:54And by all-new, I do mean all of them are new!
07:59As veterans know, you have to cover turf to fill up your gauge or no special weapon for you.
08:06Additionally, when another player's special gauge is full, their UI icon will glow, giving you more information on which to
08:12act.
08:17Penta missiles lock onto enemies and fire multiple projectiles.
08:23The inkjet enables you to fly through the air and launch explosive blobs of ink at the enemy team.
08:31The stingray fires high-pressure dink that can somehow shoot through walls.
08:38The splashdown clears out enemies by causing an ink explosion after you dive down to the ground from the air.
08:50The ink storm is always making it rain.
08:53Ink!
08:56The bomb launcher allows you to launch a barrage of bombs onto the battlefield.
09:05Ink armor increases the defense of all your allies for a set period of time, completely negating the damage from
09:11a single attack, no matter how strong.
09:14And finally, the baller puts you in a giant, explosive hamster ball that will roll you wherever you want, even
09:22up walls.
09:23Just imagine the possibilities afforded by each of these special weapons.
09:28So far, we've examined inkling gear, weapons, and the strengths and weaknesses inherent to each of them.
09:34It's important to choose the right ones to take into battle for the stage and mode you've selected.
09:40Speaking of modes...
09:43Turf War is just that, a battle for territory, no matter how many times you get splattered.
09:49If you ain't the most turf, victory is yours!
09:53It really pays to cover up enemy ink. It not only adds to your coverage, it reduces theirs and restricts
09:59their movement around the stage.
10:02Inklings will do battle anywhere.
10:04City streets.
10:06A sports club.
10:09An academy.
10:13A concert.
10:17A racetrack.
10:18And so on.
10:20Catch my drift?
10:21I certainly hope so.
10:23Because these stages are riddled with hazards, such as this shipyard.
10:30Either use them to your advantage, or get splatted.
10:34It's your move!
10:41In addition to Turf War, serious squids can experience the thrills of ranked battle.
10:47There are three modes that rotate every two hours.
10:53Splat zones.
10:55Fight for control of the splat zones placed on the stage.
10:58The team that maintains control of them longest reigns supreme.
11:05Tower control.
11:06Fight for control of a tower that moves on rails when you're standing on it.
11:11Ride it all the way to the goal in the other team's area to win.
11:15The tower will stop at key checkpoints, resulting in fierce battles for possession.
11:24Rainmaker.
11:27The team that carries the Rainmaker to the goal in the other team's area will be declared the winner.
11:31The Rainmaker itself is a weapon that can fire powerful charge shots.
11:35Pushing your team forward while protecting the Rainmaker is the key to victory.
11:49As you win ranked battles, your rank will increase.
11:53This will result in being matched with players of a similar skill level in future ranked battles.
11:58This time around, you'll have a separate rank for each mode.
12:05Prove you can out-ink the competition, and you may even move up two or more ranks at a time.
12:13League battles allow you to form a team with friends, fight alongside them, and battle your way to the top
12:18of the charts.
12:21You can enlist one other friend to form a pair and be matched with another pair, or connect with three
12:26friends to form a four-squid team.
12:29League battles play out as rank battles over a two-hour period, or until the stages change.
12:35Your score is based on your wins and losses during that period.
12:41If you play well, you can receive an in-game medal to commemorate your awesomeness.
12:49Now then, oh, well, if it isn't merch, the Sea Urchin!
12:53Talk to this guy and take your gear from fresh to freshest.
12:58Depending on the ability, you can reduce your ink consumption or move a bit faster.
13:04You see, gear have different kinds of abilities.
13:09Some for headwear, some for clothing, and even shoes.
13:16Let's see, I have a number of trendy gear abilities listed here.
13:20First up, Thermalink!
13:21This ability allows you to track distant players that you've hit with your main weapon.
13:28The Object Shredder ability increases damage dealt to all non-player targets.
13:36Quick Respawn reduces your respawn time if you get splatted repeatedly without splatting anyone yourself.
13:48On the flip side, Respawn Punisher increases respawn time,
13:52and the special gauge spawn penalty for you and any player who splats you.
14:03And the Drop Roller lets you tilt the left stick during the Super Jump to perform a forward or sideways
14:09roll when you land.
14:16Want to know what you're up against?
14:17Check out the other player's gear on the map screen.
14:22Gear abilities present many unique challenges, so it pays to study not only your gear, but the competitions as well.
14:30Remember, Merch can add or remove gear abilities.
14:43Now, for the job everyone's been talking about.
14:47I have some new information that I'm happy to share.
14:50The job description says, it's easy work with good pay.
14:53Work together as a team of four to splat salmonids and collect their power eggs.
15:01Apparently, this is the place to tire it. Looks kind of shady if you ask me.
15:06They're not always hiring though. They're only open when the salmonids are on the move.
15:12Let's see, I pulled some strings and got a hold of this manual.
15:16It's all about salmonids, which I'm all about studying.
15:20It sure helped out back at the lab, especially when studying dangerous boss salmonids.
15:25Ah, the steel eel. These salmonids block your path with their long bodies and lay down ink wherever they go.
15:34Fly fish use jet packs to hover while firing squid-seeking missiles.
15:44The steelhead. This behemoth fills bombs on its head with toxic ink and then throws them at targets.
15:51I'm afraid that's not all. Other undiscovered species of boss salmonids lurk in the depths.
16:00Science changes with the time, and so too does the water level.
16:05Stay on guard when fog hits. Salmonids will attack from all sides.
16:11As night falls, ferocious salmonids will rush you with incredible speed.
16:23Indeed, it certainly is dangerous work.
16:26However, special rewards make it more than worth the trouble.
16:30Some items can only be earned in Salmon Run.
16:33They may open up new possibilities in battles, so why not give it a go?
16:39Next, I'll detail a new service in Splatoon 2 that will help you stay in touch with Inkopolis, even when
16:45you're not near your console.
16:47Say hello to Splatnet 2, a service that puts information such as stage schedules, gear and stats at your fingertips.
17:02In Splatnet 2, you can view detailed results for your last 50 battles, and get an in-depth look at
17:08the weapons and gear wielded by the players in those battles.
17:11You can also look at your win rates for specific modes and stages, helping you to analyze and improve your
17:16game.
17:17You can also view your lifetime inkage, a feature that shows you how much turf you've inked compared to real
17:23-world places.
17:27And for you gearheads out there, there's also a separate Splatnet shop that allows you to send gear to merch
17:33in Inkopolis Square.
17:35He'll keep it in the back for you.
17:41Splatnet 2 will be available to use via a smart device app called Nintendo Switch Online.
17:47The Nintendo Switch Online app allows you to invite other players who also have the game to join private battles,
17:53league battles, Splatfest battles,
17:55and communicate with those players using voice chat.
17:58When using voice chat, you'll automatically be split into your in-game teams, so you can talk specifically to teammates.
18:08You seem pretty fresh, as inklings say, so I feel you should be in the know.
18:14Check out this Equip menu.
18:16Here you can set the control sensitivity separately for TV and handheld mode.
18:23And there's also a handy sort feature.
18:30Feeling artsy?
18:33If you submit your fresh drawings here, they might show up in Battle Stages and in Inkopolis Square.
18:39You can post to some of your social media sites, too.
18:42Science truly is Squid's best friend.
18:46Next on my list is amiibo figures.
18:48You can save your control settings, gear, and weapon loadout, and nickname to any Splatoon amiibo.
18:54Then, you just tap that amiibo on any Nintendo Switch console to instantly use those settings.
19:04What's more, you can also get exclusive gear from amiibo, or strike a pose and snap a photo with them.
19:12Brand new Splatoon 2 series amiibo will be available.
19:18And the original Splatoon series amiibo figures are compatible as well.
19:24Also, food!
19:25Inklings love to grab a bite at Krusty Sean's place.
19:28Munch down on this stuff, and you'll get more points and money from battles.
19:35That reminds me.
19:39Here at the Shoal, you can play locally with friends using their own Nintendo Switch consoles.
19:44You even get to pick any mode or stage you want.
19:47Most players at the Shoal will likely use wireless multiplayer.
19:51But for more serious competitions, LAN play is also possible.
19:54I almost forgot to mention that the Inkling music scene is flourishing.
19:58You can play Squid Beats, too, and time your button presses to the beat.
20:19Notice this manhole, or, uh, squid hole in the plaza?
20:22It leads to the home of the Octarians, arch nemeses of the Inklings.
20:26Venturing here will put your prowess to the test.
20:31Stand alone against a multitude of challenges and an army of menacing Octarians.
20:37It's also a great place to learn the battle basics.
20:42You can take different weapons into battle, and master their many uses and nuances in combat situations.
21:01Oh, and what's up with Marie? She looks awfully worried about something.
21:09Well, we've seen some fresh weapons, gear, and stages today.
21:13But what more can science offer us?
21:16How about some content updates?
21:20New weapons are in development.
21:22Say hello to the brother.
21:25Much like an Umbra, it offers both beauty and functionality.
21:30Press and hold the button to open it up and block enemy attacks.
21:36And if you continue holding down the button, you can even do this!
21:40Of course, once used, you won't be able to open it for a while, so be careful.
21:47Plus, new special weapons are on the way!
21:55And of course, new gear too! Fashion is a fickle beast after all.
22:01Over time, more stages will become available as well.
22:04Over at the lab, we're crazy excited to calculate the many ways this will change the game.
22:10Expect weapon, gear, and stage updates for around a year, along with two long years of Splatfests.
22:16I guess you could say it'll stay fresh!
22:23Ah, but what is a Splatfest anyway?
22:25I'm sure some of you know them even better than me!
22:28These events split players into two sides and pit them against each other in four-on-four matches for a
22:34limited time.
22:35Each Splatfest has a polarizing theme, leaving players with one option.
22:39Pick the side and compete to win in Turf War!
22:42May the freshest team win!
22:44And for the first time, you can fight alongside your friends on the same team!
23:01Now, before you go, I have this little… video for you.
23:05I don't know how or why it exists, and yet, here it is.
23:08Thanks for watching!
23:39Bye!
23:41Stay tuned in during the video of the giveaway.
23:42Chef方?
23:46Take care.
23:49Hi!
23:51Amazing.
23:53Bye!
24:14Grazie a tutti
24:38Grazie a tutti
24:58Grazie a tutti
25:33Grazie a tutti
