00:00Cuba's national electric grid collapsed on Monday, leaving around 10 million people without power.
00:06Operator UNE said it was investigating the causes of the blackout,
00:10the latest in a series of widespread outages that last for hours or days.
00:15Officials ruled out a major power plant failure,
00:17but they had still not pinpointed the root cause of the collapse, suggesting a problem with transmission.
00:23Cuba's Director General of Electricity, Lázaro Guetta, said they had begun restoring power across the country.
00:31We will keep you updated on the progress of this restoration process
00:35and, of course, on the cause of the total blackout, which we are still analysing at this time.
00:41The previous outage was indeed triggered by the shutdown of a power generation unit.
00:46We are still investigating the root cause, and once we have it, we will inform the public.
00:52What we can tell you is that the microgrids are being activated across the country
00:57and that the process of restoring the national power grid has already begun,
01:02following established protocols.
