00:05And on the pick screen, we have eight characters that people can choose from.
00:11In this particular case, they're all random.
00:13Every match, you're going to have somewhat of a different set of characters.
00:16Looks like we're going to have somebody picking a Knessa.
00:18So there's two damage, two flanks.
00:20You know that's got to be Joe.
00:21It's probably Joe.
00:22It is Joe.
00:23We'll see some Knessa action over here.
00:25So there's two of each category.
00:28There's four players on the team.
00:30And sometimes teams will go all Knessas probably, which they can do.
00:35There's no limitation right now.
00:36Okay.
00:37And other times, you'll have a more balanced team.
00:39So in this case, it looks like they actually have a team of a full comp.
00:44I do.
00:45Look at that.
00:46I'm so proud of them.
00:47They have front line, flanking, healing, and damage.

01:01What do I get to pick from then?
01:03Four champions, one of each class, are always going to be available for people no matter
01:06what champions you own.
01:08And four other ones are going to be based on whether you own them or not.

01:11So no matter what, if you're brand new to the realm, no matter what, you're going to
01:16have somebody to pick from, and I imagine that subset of four champions will be at least
01:20one from each class.
01:22One from each class.

01:25So very important things here.
01:27This is a battle royale mode within paladins.
01:29We've had something similar in a survival mode a long time ago.
01:33Yes.
01:33A long time ago we experimented with King of the Hill type, Last Man Standing, with
01:37a fog coming in, and that wasn't very popular for a variety of reasons, but now obviously
01:45with the way the battle royale has been embraced by the communities, we decided to add a mode
01:50of our own.
01:51And you can see that they're all starting in the same island.
01:55This is a very sacred part of the battle royale.
01:58The pre-game lobby.
01:59The jumping on the hill part.
02:01So this is when you're going to see, you know, the open mic, some guys blaring in the arms
02:05of an angel, my heart will go on, something like that.
02:08The jump party.
02:09This seems to be the most popular spot.
02:10Every time that I've played, this is where the jump party starts.
02:13We got 68 in here, a little bit of a pre-load in, and we're looking at all different kinds
02:18of champions running around in here.
02:19Now normally this mode will run with 100 people in it.
02:22We only have about 70 or so stations at the show floor, so the number is a little bit
02:29smaller than a typical match, but it will still give everybody a good sense for what
02:33the gameplay looks like.
02:34The map itself is obviously in an early state.
02:37It's in pre-alpha, and it's going to go a long way before release.
02:43We do expect to put this mode out for testing during this first quarter.
02:48And we got 40 seconds till deployment here.
02:50So talk to me about, are we going to still be seeing just, these are the champions?
02:54Do they have the same abilities?
02:56Do they have the same guns?
02:57Do they have the same loadout cards, legendaries?
02:59How does that all play into this new mode?
03:00This plays exactly like normal paladins with the champions, the equipment and the weapons
03:06and abilities that they already have.
03:08So you don't change the guns out.
03:10But you do find cards that give you a lot of extra strength during the match itself.
03:16So there's loot boxes to get.
03:18The cards that you start off with are going to be the ones that you want to bring into
03:22the match, just like a normal paladin setup.
03:25Okay, so we're getting ready to roll here.
03:26Last couple of seconds in the pre-game lobby.
03:29All the teams, what are they going to do right now?
03:31So the available areas are lit and green.
03:35They're random every time.
03:36And then you can see little red dots that appear.
03:38That's where other teams are decided to go.
03:41So you can seek out the action if that's what you're into.
03:42Yeah, so you can decide to go early into a square.
03:44Or hide.
03:45Or you can hide.
03:46Or you can decide to go in a place where there's nobody else.
03:48And it does drop your team together to make sure that you already start as a team versus
03:52trying to find each other.
03:54Okay.
03:54And you can see that's a mini-map.
03:56They are looking for, they're going to look for loot right now.
03:58The map is very large.
04:00It's about 300 plus times the size of a normal paladin's map.
04:04And obviously we did our first pass to populate the map.
04:07but there's a lot more to go as far as adding additional structures and additional points of interest.
04:14All right.
04:15So we're riding along here with Hi-Rez Joe and whoever he has been fortunate enough to bring alongside him.
04:20I'm hearing that he might have Lazy on his team.
04:22That might be that Eevee player.
04:24Not a lot of players jump at the chance to scoop an Eevee.
04:27There's one now.
04:28And there you have.
04:28Now you see two different card types.
04:30There's a LED, well, I'm sorry.
04:31There's an Epic card and there's a green card.
04:33The cards have different qualities.
04:35One has plus 50% damage, one plus 10% damage.
04:38So obviously the rarity increases.
04:40So purple is a really good card.
04:42There's four tiers of cards.
04:43That's pretty good, yeah.
04:44First chest.
04:45There's the normal card.
04:46There's green, blue, purple, and gold right now.
04:53So you can see he has a blue, a green, and a purple.
04:56But where do I get gold?
04:57The gold chests only drop from, at the moment, from zeppelins that fly overhead.
05:02Okay.
05:02So it's similar to what the players dropped in us.
05:05Is that what I'm looking out for?
05:06Yeah, so like once a minute there will be one that drops somewhere in the world.
05:09You want to fight over it because legendary stats are exceptionally high.
05:12They're well beyond anything else.
05:14For example, it goes from a 50% damage to a 100% damage plus a whole bunch of additional
05:19very strong stats.
05:21Uh-oh, we got a little bit of a fight breaking out here.
05:23One Kinesa player.
05:24So, yeah, it looks like a fight has already started.
05:27Uh-oh.
05:28Oh, my God, an early chicken.
05:30Uh-oh, what does that mean?
05:31So when you turn into a chicken, that's when somebody actually shoots you down.
05:34Now, normally.
05:36But she's back.
05:36He's got, he was revived.
05:38Okay, so you get picked up out of your, so you can still waddle around your teammates,
05:42have a chance to actually come back, it looks like.
05:44That was a pretty decently long cast time, so you got to get out of the action for that to
05:48happen.
05:48Yeah, luckily this was a fall away engagement.
05:50So there was an ability to resurrect someone.
05:52But in a lot of other situations, if it's close by, you don't get that quite as often.
05:56And he was very nice of Joe, by the way, to show us how he turns into a chicken.

06:00Just so we can understand it.
06:01And now he's got somebody else.
06:03Now, if they can go find a teammate.
06:04But they've got to finish him.

08:22Yeah, so in a typical Battle Royale fashion, a fog comes in, which limits the area that players can play

10:19So these are the effects that you're traditionally
10:22going to be used to seeing from the in-game item store.
10:25There's no credits in this game mode.
10:27There's no item store in this game mode.
10:28It's all about the loot box.
10:30And you can see it has 100% armor, which reduces your damage by 50%
10:34at the moment, plus a variety of other very strong stats.
10:38So she currently has an effective health of double what you're seeing.
10:43Okay, so 2,500 base HP.
10:45Just about a 5,000 health kinesa.
10:46But 50% damage reduction.
10:48So we're about 5k effective HP.
10:50And that's going to mitigate both direct and blast shield.
10:53It's not going to discriminate.
10:54Circles is getting a little bit closer and closer.
10:57Still got a lot of people left.
10:58It looks like Joe and the boys might be finding another engagement up here.
11:03So Joe always seems to get pretty looted.
11:05He's got it nailed down.
11:07So there are four item slots in this game mode.
11:10And we're seeing one on the weapon, one on the chest,
11:13one on the hands for the gloves, and then, of course, the boot slot.
11:16So those are all the weapons you'll be looking to get outfitted.
11:18Joe just gets marked up by a Tyra.

11:21I don't think Joe does either.
11:23I wonder where they were exactly looking to engage from.
11:26But I don't see Joe's ultimate.

11:35So ultimates in this mode do not take up automatically.
11:37You have to kill other players or do damage in order to increase your ultimate.
11:42So you have to engage.
11:43And you don't get them as frequently as you used to.
11:45But, whoa, that was close.

11:54They're a little bit more split up than they typically have been in the past.

12:14And that's obviously a player that died, so they dropped the loot that they had.
12:18And if you can find those players that had those legendaries, you're obviously going to be extremely strong.
12:22Joe right now has one legendary, three epics.
12:25So he's fairly strong.
12:27Although, obviously, with additional legendaries, he would be significantly stronger.
12:30So I just won this fight.
12:31I'm rolling up to these loot chests that my enemies have drops because they're noob idiots.
12:35And I want to give one of my items that I currently have to a teammate.
12:39How would I go about doing this?
12:40So there's two strategies here.
12:41One is, do you want to make one of your teammates exceptionally strong, right?
12:45You might want to put all the legendaries on one teammate that can then just destroy everyone, right?
12:50That's one strategy.
12:51The other one is to be kind of greedy and just pick up the legendaries for yourself.
12:55Yeah, don't tell them about it.

13:00So, and if you do want to trade, you can just use the loot crate to trade an item that's

13:12So any loot crate that you find, a legendary chest from the sky, even you saw.
13:16And that's a good way to tell when a legendary chest has, in fact, been looted when you see some
13:21crap in there.
13:21Because right now, what are the things that we're going to see?
13:24Is it only legendaries in those chests or can you get bad RNG and get...
13:27It's only legendaries on those chests.
13:29So if there's anything less than a legendary in those big purple chests that drop from the Zeppelins, you know,
13:35somebody has been there.
13:36You need to be on high alert.

15:03going to mow them down pretty quickly.

15:08every kill you get, you do additional damage.

15:52Now, the tempo we're looking for is at the start of the game, the time to kill is relatively
15:57average.

15:59Similar to what we're at with Paladins right now.

16:03You don't have super strong cards yet.
16:04But as the game progresses, you get better loot.
16:08Now, some of the loot does give you defensive stats.
16:10Sure.
16:10But at the same time, the offensive stats grow faster than the defensive stats.

16:15So, it becomes more and more deadly.
16:17And you have to get that loot in order to be able to compete at the end.
16:21And you have to get kills in order to compete at the end, or to compete well.
16:24So, at the end of the match, you could literally go one versus four if you got the appropriate
16:31loot and you killed a lot of people along the way.

17:18So, towards the end, if everybody has equivalent legendaries, and it's very difficult to get four legendaries.

17:23Your team most likely has to help you get those if you want.
17:26Because you can see, even with all these kills, you only have one legendary still.

17:32I'm not sure.
17:33It's been very rare to get all four legendaries.
17:36So, typically, that doesn't happen.
17:38So, you will have some stat differences between them.
17:40Now, if your team does build you up, you know, if you want the ultimate Knessa,
17:43then the kills do count significantly towards that.

17:47And, at that point, you know, if you did better during the match,
17:52you're going to own a lot more at the end of the match.

17:55So, we've got a legendary chest dropping.

18:29just because Joe is doing it well, doesn't mean that it's easy.

18:34And you saw the first Knessa we watched go down very quickly.

19:35Now, I do have to say, if it was myself playing Knessa, and I've tried it several times,

19:42Some dumb flanker just comes behind me and kills me instantaneously, and I get very frustrated.
19:46So it doesn't look anything like this.

19:53Joe plays a little bit of Buck.
19:54Buck Rover and Knessa are definitely his top three.
19:57They're engaging now, and our roving death squad has found 13 frags, 10 remaining.
20:02Joe just needs legendary gloves, so he is essentially almost kitted out, best in slots across the board.
20:09Oh, and there is that extra legendary that's still active.

20:14You would think one of the head programmers would know that that's what that means.
