00:23So Extinction is a true skill-based combat game on a massive scale.
00:27So you play as this character Aveil.
00:28Aveil is the last of the Sentinels, a new trainee inducted into this ancient order that has
00:34been dedicated to preserving the legend of these monsters and the techniques and strategies
00:39that are needed to fight against them.
00:40Riveny are these huge ogres, 150-foot-tall monstrosities, coming to destroy your friends, your family,
00:46your towns.
00:47And Aveil is the only person equipped to take them down.
00:49The Sentinel order has really degraded over the years.
00:52There's not much of it left at this point.
00:54And at the time that the campaign begins, Aveil is actually the only member of the order
00:59that's still around.
01:00Over the course of this monster campaign, you get to learn more about the world, more about
01:04the people, why the Riveny are doing what they're doing, and save as much of humanity as you can
01:08in the process.
01:11So the world of extinction is a place that has always been at war with itself.
01:16It's chaotic and filled with feuds, and humanity has been fighting back and forth for centuries.
01:22As far back as anyone could remember, mankind had been at war with itself.
01:28And into the midst of this, a giant portal opens up through which these monsters begin coming,
01:33that then start crushing people.
01:35And these are sort of the horrors of the times past.
01:38This is a threat that was spoken of in children's fairy tales.
01:41You can definitely expect some surprising twists and turns.
01:44Not everything is necessarily as it seems.
01:47I don't want to go too deep into it to give away too much.
01:50But there's definitely some stuff in there that the story enthusiasts out there will be excited
01:54to see.
01:58Iron Galaxy, we're kind of known for fighting games, we're known for really tight action.
02:03And we want to bring that to something of this scale, which I don't think has really been
02:07done before.
02:08Combat in extinction has a lot of high level skill execution mechanics, right?
02:13We have a lot of timing specific attacks, we have a lot of cancel windows.
02:17When you're going from one attack to another, that's basically what we consider an attack
02:20cancel.
02:21In a lot of action games, you would see one attack go into another attack.
02:25And it's a very basic formula.
02:27Here, we can kind of cancel into almost any attack that we want.
02:31Standard single strike ground attacks for a single target, sweeping AOE attacks.
02:35He's got knock-ups, he's got air combos, he's got knock-downs when he's in the air.
02:40You can also latch onto flying enemies with your whip, pull yourself towards them.
02:43So it's that freedom to be able to kind of expand the combat in a variety of different
02:48paths.
02:50The only known way of killing a Raveni is by using a magical rune strike, which only Avil
02:57can do.
02:57So he has to charge up power in order to execute that kill strike.
03:00Saving people that you find in the countryside, killing the minions, dismembering the Raveni
03:05themselves, destroying their armor, or completing mission objectives are all things that build
03:10up your rune energy.
03:11And once it's full, you can go in for that decapitation strength.
03:14So all told, there are thousands of possible combinations of Raveni, their attacks that they
03:18like to use, and the types of armor loadouts that they have.
03:21All of the options that Avil has when he's climbing trees and walls and traversing through
03:27cities, he has all those options when he's climbing the Ogre as well.
03:30And once you get to the top of the Ogre, you can just sit up there and wait for your
03:33perfect moment.
03:34You're under constant attack.
03:35You're flying minions, you have projectile attacks that can spit at you.
03:38The Ogre doesn't want you up there flailing about trying to shake you off, right?
03:42You might have armor up there you have to dispatch first.
03:44The armor might be armor that can hurt you.
03:45You also have to juggle a whole bunch of competing objectives.
03:48Your primary mission goal might be to escort someone to a particular place or rescue a
03:53particular person.
03:54Which of these things do you prioritize?
03:56Remember, civilians are dying.
03:57The town's getting destroyed.
03:59A bunch of bad stuff is happening, so you gotta hurry.
04:02Extinction is coming out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.
