00:00And right now we are two minutes away from the end of the trading day. Romain Bostic here with
00:04Bailey Lipschultz in for Katie Greifeld. We're taking you through to that closing bell with
00:08the Global Simulcast. Carol Masser and Tim Senevic join us. Welcome to our audiences across all of
00:13our Bloomberg platforms, television, radio, our partnership with YouTube here on a bit of a
00:18rebound Monday here, Carol Masser. As a lot of folks come in, they're looking at that drop in
00:23oil prices and maybe seeing a light potentially at the end of the tunnel. Yeah, but if you look
00:27at the equity trade, yes, indeed, we are up across the board, but we're definitely off our best and
00:32worst levels of the session. And I just think the movements, the volatility that we have seen
00:37throughout the day, I don't know, I think investors are waiting for something more significant that
00:43gives them some visibility longer term, whether it's what we get from the Fed, whether it's what
00:48we get from Micron, whether we get any visibility and whether this war is coming to an end. Maybe
00:52the spike that we got, you can see it right there on the Nasdaq composite just after three o'clock
00:58today. Bailey, that was NVIDIA. And that was the headline from NVIDIA that investors saw they
01:03expect to make a trillion dollars from AI chips through 2027. But as Ed Ludlow came on our program
01:08and shared with us, lost a little bit of momentum a little later when they took the pencils out and
01:14said, wait a second, that's just an extension of the guidance that we got in October of 2025.
01:19Tim, we sometimes see that, though, where algos can pick up an initial headline that says, oh,
01:23in 2027, holy cow, that means they're essentially doubling revenue. And then all of a sudden you
01:29actually break out what Jensen actually said, and it looks fine. Yeah, it looks fine. And as Amandeep
01:35Singh said, overall, it is an incremental increase in their growth outlook. But as we say here,
01:41incremental is the key word. Nevertheless, we do have green across the screen for the major U.S.
01:46indices here in the United States. The Dow Jones Industrial Average going to add almost 400 points
01:50or about eight tenths of a percent on the day. The S&P 500 adding about one percent on the
01:55day,
01:56right around that 6699 level here. The Nasdaq deposit up about 270 points or 1.2 percent. And
02:03the Russell 2000 in on the action as well, adding about 23 points, Carol, or nine tenths of one percent.
02:08All right, back to the S&P 500. We go in terms of what we saw inside the index. Most
02:14names you guys
02:16hire for the Monday trade. Bailey, 377 names in the S&P gaining ground today. 125 to the downside,
02:22one unchanged. Yeah, and we've got every single one of those 11 sectors trading in the green,
02:27led by tech consumer discretionaries, a.k.a. Amazon, and communication services rallying today.
02:33NVIDIA, Apple, Amazon, you're big drivers, at least, when you look underneath the hood on the S&P 500.
02:38All right, guys, let's go to some of the individual gainers, if I may. Micron Technology
02:42up at its high, 6.7 percent, finishing the day with a gain of about 3.7 percent here. Also,
02:49the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, we saw that average also higher on the day, thanks to Micron.
02:55Now, are all these chips actually made in Philadelphia?
02:59That's a great question. Just the cheesesteak ones. Oh, okay. Yeah. Okay. I love cheesesteaks.
03:03Sure thing. 25 names in the socks higher today, five unchanged. So,
03:08Micron, which reports on Wednesday, shares are up, lifted the group as a whole, especially those
03:14memory and storage companies, as analyst optimism grows ahead of the chipmaker's results later on
03:19this week. Stock is up around 60 percent year to date. So we are watching that sector throughout
03:24the week. And as I mentioned, the socks also up about 2 percent for the day overall. Moving on over
03:30to Dollar Tree and Dollar General. Those names also higher today. Dollar Tree up about 6.5 percent,
03:38best day since June. This one, as it's announced its strategy to introduce higher-priced item to – is
03:47actually helping to increase its sales, especially with wealthier shoppers. So companies shifting
03:51merchandise and stores to sell more goods in a range of $3 to $5, including toys and party supplies,
03:57that boosted results last quarter. So you have that at play. I also want to mention that the
04:01Independent was out on Dollar General, and that one was up about 2.25 percent. It's introducing a
04:07new store format designed to encourage customers to browse and treasure hunt before they make a
04:13purchase. And they're also planning to pilot a subscription program as part of its loyalty
04:17efforts. And they're going to open up some new stores in 2026, focused on rural areas. So both of
04:22those names are higher. And then for something a little bit different, ticker DSGR, Distribution
04:27Solutions, shares soaring 35 percent in today's session. It's a $1.2 billion market cap industrial
04:35distribution company, and it received a preliminary non-binding proposal from LKCM, Headwater
04:40Investments, to basically buy it for $29.50 a share. But the stock did close at 26 and change. So
04:47I don't know. Maybe investors are expecting more. I don't know. Anyway, I just thought it was
04:51something different and interesting. You had so many gainers to choose from. I envy you.
04:54I know. You actually would have liked me. You know, Romain, you don't have anything to add?
05:00No, Carol. What's wrong? Bailey, what's wrong with him?
05:03You were perfect today. Oh, wait, wait, what? What?
05:07I didn't. Okay. Let's start with the decliners. CF Industries down 5.6 percent. This is a stock that's
05:14up close to 60 percent year-to-date. Scotiabank downgraded K&S and warned that CF Industries
05:20and nutrient valuations are looking, quote, overstretched amid the rally since the conflict
05:24in Iran started. Once again, fertilizer stocks fell today. CF Industries falling by 5.6 percent.
05:31And a little M&A news for my next one. PSA US, it's public storage. Shares today fell by 2
05:38.7 percent.
05:39This after the company agreed to acquire National Storage Affiliates Trust. It's an all-stock deal
05:43worth about $10.5 billion, including debt. The combined company expected to have a combined
05:49market value of about $57 billion and an enterprise value of $77 billion. And a late addition. This is
05:56an interesting one. One main holding shares. This is a company that is in the financial services
06:02industry. It does provide personal and auto loan products. Shares today fell by 5.4 percent. This
06:09after New York Attorney General Letitia James, along with a bipartisan coalition of 12 other AGs,
06:14fought a lawsuit against the company and its units for allegedly misleading customers and trapping
06:20borrowers in expensive loans, excuse me, with expensive and often useless additional products.
06:26That's what the suit alleges. We should note that one main financial out with a statement, they call
06:32this a meritless lawsuit brought by states. And they say the state's allegations are simply untrue.
06:37Their cases wrong on the facts and wrong on the law and attempts to relitigate issues that were already
06:43reviewed by the CFPB and fully resolved. We operate honestly and transparently in full compliance with
06:49all laws and regulations. The statement continues, but that's the gist of it. Down 5.4 percent today.
06:57All right, a quick check on yields. Of course, on a day where we saw oil actually decline and we
07:01saw the dollar
07:02decline as well. In fact, the biggest drop that we've seen in the Bloomberg dollar spot index in about a
07:06month
07:06and a half yields following lower as well, about four to five basis points pretty much across the board
07:12ahead of that big Fed decision day on Wednesday. All right, everybody, it's getting a little heated
07:17down in Palm Beach. Apparently, Donald Trump has been bothered by, you know, the planes flying over
07:23Mar-a-Lago and it's been that way since he bought it back in 1985. Well, now the FAA has
07:29barred all flights
07:30over Mar-a-Lago below 2,000 feet and so they're being redirected and apparently some of the neighbors
07:36aren't very happy about where they've been redirected. They're getting a little bit ticked off.
07:41I was at this airport last week. It's probably the last time I'm going to fly out of it before
07:44it's
07:44called Donald J. Trump International Airport. That is going to happen soon at the behest of
07:51Florida's Republican state-run legislature. It's difficult for, it's difficult to find people who went on
07:58the record about this. But one person said that the noise is, quote, unbearable and you can no longer
08:06enjoy your existence outdoors. We're talking about homes that sell for up to $30 million on average
08:12in the more than $10 million range. And I guess this is what happens when the flights are diverted to
08:17a
08:17different place. All I know is that where I live in New Jersey, I'm close enough to Newark that I
08:22basically get united to buzz by like four or five days, four or five times a day. Romain,
08:27I don't know what it's like where you're at, though. He's got a no-fly zone over Romain's
08:31apartment. Sorry, guys. Right, Romain? So, yeah, you know, got to check the real estate before you
08:36buy. Hey, did anybody actually watch the Oscars last night? I know Tim didn't. No, I was asleep.
08:42No, it was actually, believe it or not, this is actually one of the few Oscars broadcasts I was
08:45actually interested in. You actually had a lot of great films up for nominations like
08:49Frankenstein and Hamnet. Of course, One Battle After Another and Sinners. For some reason,
08:53One Battle After Another won Best Picture. I'm not sure if you've seen this. It's a wild movie.
09:00Satirical, if you will. Not sure it was deserving, but, you know, kudos to Paul Thomas Anderson for,
09:05you know, finally getting a big one there. And I also got the directing Oscar as well.
09:10I will say I enjoyed it, Romain. I was entertained the entire time. Again, I don't know if it was
09:14as
09:14much of an art or a film masterpiece as maybe Sinners or some of the others that were nominated.
09:18It was not a masterpiece, but yeah, but it won. So, you know, I mean, the Oscars had something to
09:23say there, but there were a lot of milestones too. I mean, obviously you did actually see
09:28Michael B. Jordan win for Best Actor. I think you had, you know, several milestones in terms of
09:33the number of women who actually won Oscars, including the first for casting, the cinematographer
09:37for Sinners as well. Absolutely here. So a lot of big milestones. And like I said,
09:41just a lot of great films. I mean, when you go through that list, maybe the exception of F1,
09:44all these things are really worth seeing. I got to say Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel both had
09:50some fun things to say. They did. Yeah. It's a lot of humor. Kind of entertaining. Yeah. Sure thing.
09:55Did you have a favorite red carpet moment, Romain? Me? Or Bailey? No, I was watching,
10:02I was watching the brackets be unveiled. I'm a big sports, sports ball guy. The only movie that I
10:07think I've seen that was nominated for anything was Sinners. And that movie was great. And I'm glad
10:12it won what it did. And Buddy Guy had some really cool, I think, leather overalls. I'm pretty sure
10:16they were. You gotta love it. You gotta love Buddy Guy. All right. Was that on the red carpet? I
10:20missed
10:20that. Yeah. You gotta go back. He was actually up on stage. I will say I enjoyed weapons, which I
10:25feel
10:25like should have gotten more love. I don't know if you guys watched it. Weapons? No, they got,
10:29she got the, uh, the best supporting actress. I know, yeah, she was the best supporting actress. She was
10:33awesome. After all. Yeah. I love weapons, by the way. The old-fashioned horror. That's why I wanted Sinners
10:38horror movies. Bring them back. Are you guys having fun? Are you guys done? Yeah.
