00:35When the game first came out, I didn't know what to make of it.
00:38It was this big thing that I just couldn't quite wrap my head around.
00:46Everything about it is kind of like slow, and the momentum is going, you're not quite
00:49getting it.
00:50Then you realize, that's the genius of it.
00:52It's engrossing you into the story, and you become part of that world of that game.
01:00I didn't know what to make of it at first, because it was very unique, and it was very
01:04slow-paced, and you had to get to understand the story and what had happened, but the more
01:08you explore the real world of Shenmue, when you get out of Ryo Hazuki's house, and then
01:12into Yamanose, and then Sakura Gaoka, it opens up and suddenly you're drawn in and engrossed
01:16into this world, engrossed into the story of Ryo Hazuki who's trying to avenge his father's
01:20death.
01:25And so getting drawn into that story was phenomenal, because a video game had never done that before.
01:31Not like this, where you had characters that you felt that you could relate to.
01:34Yo-san, where are you going?
01:37You're not going after them.
01:39And that's why it has really created such a huge fan base of people that are utterly devoted
01:43to it, because it just touched a part of your heart, your soul, your mind.
01:47It took a brave step in trying to really make you feel like you were part of this other culture,
01:52especially to us and those in the West.
01:55Like, the world has been finely polished, you know, there's weather, there's people
01:59in that community, and they talk about stuff that they get up to, there's capsule toys and
02:03drinks that you can get out of the vending machine, and you really believe that you're
02:06in that environment.
02:07Hey, dear!
02:08Hi Megumi.
02:09There are parts of Dobuita Street that are almost identical to what you see in the game,
02:14and when you realize that level of attention and detail has been put into creating Shenmue,
02:19you appreciate the game even more so, because the game of Shenmue doesn't exist just within
02:23that disc or just within your console, it also exists in the real world.
02:31So it's a military surplus store, just like in the game, the real, it makes you feel really
02:35authentic.
02:35I mean, it's kind of surreal seeing it, because you can't do anything with it in the game,
02:39but there it is.
02:40It's in real life.
02:41It's totally true.
02:42However, if you do go in there and ask about sailors, I'm pretty sure they know where they're
02:44hanging out.
02:45Yeah, they're not that hard to find, actually.
02:54So we're standing outside Tom and Jack, which I'm pretty sure is the inspiration for Tom's
02:58hot dogs in the game.
02:59Yeah.
02:59That would be logical.
03:00Though there is no actual hot dog cart.
03:02Maybe there was, you know, 30 years ago.
03:04I don't know.
03:04But remember, from Tom, you learn a move, don't you?
03:07Yeah, the tornado kick.
03:08Yeah, the tornado kick.
03:09You learn the tornado kick from Tom.
03:10Do you actually ever end up buying a hot dog from Tom?
03:12No.
03:13But you eat one in a cutscene, but you never see him.
03:15He just says he's going to do it, and then it cuts.
03:17I'll have one next time.
03:19So if you're a real Shenmue fan, come to Tom and Jack's and find out what they do in there.
03:23Because we still don't know.
03:24We don't know.
03:25We don't know.
03:26No clue whatsoever.
03:29Really?
03:32Oh, they're building, dude.
03:33Oh, they're building stuff.
03:34They're building stuff in there.
03:35So they're building stuff in there.
03:36They're building the game at the moment.
03:38There's no food.
03:39It's a building still being worked out.
03:40There's just wireframe models.
03:42There's no textures as yet.
03:43Yes.
03:44So once the development team gets to work.
03:45It's the beta version of the building.
03:46It's exactly what that is.
03:48It is the beta version.
03:48And when it's finished, it'll be a hot dog stand on the street.
03:50Eventually.
03:51With a dancing man with a very funny accent.
03:53Yes.
03:54Try my homemade pickles.
03:56They're guaranteed to make you happy.
03:59Uh-huh.
04:00I'll drop by later.
04:21Ah, that's good.
04:40Well, my mind is blown that Shenmue 1 and 2 are coming back for a brand new audience.
04:45It just means a lot.
04:46And it says a lot that the community cares and that Sega cares and that we're still getting
04:50this.
04:51I mean, for the longest time, we were so excited when we got a new t-shirt coming out.
04:56Now the actual game coming out is just amazing.
04:59And what I'm really excited about is going to bring a whole generation of people who missed
05:03out on Shenmue to get into Shenmue, appreciate the game and love it the way that we do.
05:10Just overall, man, it was such a transcendent experience for lack of a better way of putting
05:15it.
05:15It just, it really was more than a game.
05:18It was an experience.
05:19That's the best way I can put it.
05:26You can't just play Shenmue.
05:28You live Shenmue.
05:30That's it.
05:31That's the life.
05:32That's the life.
05:57That's the life.
05:58That's the life.
06:00I'm different.
06:07activating
06:07Just, itGS Corp
06:08It's aolphins.
06:09Grazie.
