01:02So what are the key facts that, like, players should know about FIFA 19 that they didn't know so far?
01:08For sure. So there's, I was just talking to Chris earlier, there's a lot going into the game this year.
01:15I start by naming Champions League, which is returning to FIFA after a decade.
01:22And it's been the most asked about feature that we've been hearing from players.
01:29And it's not coming to the game just in a standalone tournament form, but it's actually integrated across all the
01:36various modes in the game.
01:37So you'll see Champions League, Europa League and the Super Cup being featured in career mode.
01:41You'll be able to play a Champions League final within the new kickoff.
01:46You'll be able to enjoy Champions League content released throughout the year in Ultimate Team.
01:50And also the standalone tournament with its own full authentic structure and teams.
01:56So definitely that's one of the biggest things this year, but plenty more.
02:02Let's talk about UEFA Champions League.
02:05You have to.
02:06Of course.
02:07Do you want to actually get into a match?
02:10Yeah, why not?
02:11Let's get into it and then we continue talking about it.
02:17Yeah, so one thing that I like about being able to just play a quick game in the Champions League
02:23is that it makes you feel like there's always something at stake.
02:26Yeah, it is for sure.
02:29So pick your team.
02:31Okay.
02:32I will be Paris.
02:35Advanced.
02:42Yeah, so this is an entirely new mode, which basically is the actual authentic Champions League experience.
02:53We've even introduced a new commentary team that is specific to Champions League.
02:58Derek Ray and Lee Dixon.
03:00You see here already the anthem and the intro for the Champions League.
03:04And it's such a glorious, I don't want it to sound as too big of a word, but it makes
03:14us so proud that we've been able to actually introduce it in the game.
03:19Because the emotion that Champions League offers to players is second to none.
03:27Because, you know, when you watch a Champions League game, the stakes are super high.
03:31The feeling is different.
03:33Everybody puts on their best game.
03:35And that's what we try to do in FIFA 19 as well.
03:41So this is your first group match after you selected Paris Saint-Germain.
03:46Go select play match.
03:49All right.
03:51And I'll just try and not concede as many goals.
03:57We all know the legendary status of Limerick FC.
04:03So how was the score last year?
04:06I can't remember exactly.
04:07Well, we still have a score to settle.
04:10That's what I like it.
04:14So right from the get-go, you'll notice a few things, especially in visuals.
04:22And Chris was just mentioning before the show.
04:25We've introduced the concept of pitch degradation in the game.
04:30So as you play the game and as you tackle, as different types of steps are taken on the pitch,
04:37the pitch actually degrades.
04:39And that, although talking about it seems like a really minor thing,
04:43when you actually play the game, it adds so much depth and authenticity to how visuals look.
04:49Well, one thing that I find amazing about it is that you really genuinely see a visual difference
04:54between the first half and the second half.
04:56Yeah.
04:56So it means that you feel like in the second half, oh wow, a lot has happened already.
05:00That's how it's supposed to be.
05:02Yeah.
05:02It's really cool.
05:03So all these intro sequences have been built from scratch for Champions League.
05:08And you will also see the Champions League, hear the Champions League Anthem play.
05:15The teams taking photos at the start of the match.
05:18It's, as I said before, it's meant to actually get you into that atmosphere,
05:25immerse you in that experience.
05:27Shall we get into the action?
05:29Please.
05:33All of the broadcast package is also introduced.
05:38So you will see all the Authentic Champions League team presentations, score overlays.
05:46All of the sponsors.
05:48All of the sponsors too.
05:52For the people wondering why we are laughing.
05:55I know exactly what you're referring to.
05:59But it adds to the realism.
06:01Yes.
06:03It's the authentic competition.
06:09It's still early season.
06:11Still sort of getting to know it.
06:13Warming up.
06:14Warming up.
06:17So I need to mention that Chris didn't have a chance to play this build system.
06:22So this has been tuned specifically for me.
06:25So you would say it's a fair match.
06:27Yes.
06:30You're sorry.
06:30I was, I interrupted you.
06:32No, I was going to say that one thing that I think has happened a bit under the hood is
06:37that the striking has been changed quite a bit, right?
06:41Yes.
06:41So the striking system has been entirely overhauled.
06:45What we wanted to achieve by doing that was to give players more options in front of goal and more
06:52control, more precision in front of goal.
06:55So deep in shots, driven shots, cheap shots, finesse shots, all have been entirely rehauled.
07:02And I don't know if you noticed them already, but you have, it's more in line with how you would
07:10expect a shot to play out.
07:12And you have more control over its curve, over the angle, and it's much more rewarding when you actually manage
07:22to land a really good shot.
07:23Well, what I like about it is that on the one hand, it's still sort of, the normal shooting works
07:30still the same way.
07:31Oh, this is all right.
07:34But the new shooting works in a way that you can add like the risk system.
07:40Oh, you're talking about timed shots.
07:43Yes.
07:43So there's a new mechanic we introduced.
07:47You're right.
07:50If you double tap, if you double tap the shoot button, you're able to, if you time it right, you're
08:01able to increase your chances of actually that shot having a lot more power and a lot more precision.
08:09Now, it's an optional mechanic that, to your point, it's a high risk, high reward one, because if you don't
08:16time it right, then chances are a lot higher than the shot will go wide or it will be a
08:21poor shot.
08:22Yeah.
08:23But once you master that, and you choose the right moment when to use it, it can definitely give you
08:32the edge over your opponent, for sure.
08:35But everything I said earlier about the shooting system applies to all of the different types of shots, not just
08:43time finishing.
08:44Yeah.
08:45So, Chris, what's going on?
08:47It's 20 minutes already.
08:48It's not what I expected from PC.
08:50I was actually going to use this as a bridge to something that I've noticed while playing FIFA 19 compared
08:56to FIFA 18 on Nintendo Switch is that a lot of animations have been added.
09:01And the game really plays a lot more fluid, especially because there are so many defensive animations that have been
09:08added that you hardly make any tackles.
09:10And you can see that Andrej is actually very good at stopping me in my tracks and making sure that
09:16my passes don't come through.
09:21That's very generous.
09:23So close.
09:27Yeah, so the other thing besides animation that we did specific in gameplay is that we changed a lot of
09:40the AI system to actually make it feel more human.
09:45Because right now, when you're going to play match after match, each match will feel different because the AI will
09:55try to mimic the real-life tactics of the team you're playing against.
09:59Oh, really?
10:00Yeah.
10:00So say you're playing against Manchester City, for example, you will immediately be high-pressured.
10:05Exactly what Guardiola likes to do.
10:07If you play against Barcelona, for example, you will see them playing their tiki-taka style, moving the ball in
10:15short passes, trying to create more space in front of the goal for them.
10:23So this is something we call team personality.
10:26But there's also a brother to it, or a sister, called player personality.
10:31Oh!
10:33Bappe!
10:34Sorry, I didn't make use of this moment.
10:36But please continue about the player's personality.
10:39Yeah, so there's also a concept of player personality that we introduced in the game this year, where individual players
10:48will have individual playing styles that cater to how they behave in real life on the pitch.
10:55So, for example, Cristiano Ronaldo likes to go out wide, get the ball, and then cut inside.
11:02We will see him do that in the game.
11:04Messi likes to come a bit deeper, get the ball to his feet, dribble, make a play, do a skill
11:14move.
11:14So the AI did not do skill moves until this year at all.
11:19And all those things contribute to the game feeling totally different versus last year.
11:25So, I guess you had a whole team analyzing every single player and how he likes to do things?
11:31Yeah.
11:32We actually have a big team here in Cologne, data collection and licensing, that are basically working with a lot
11:45of people around the world to analyze players and teams and everything that's going on.
11:51And they basically prepare a whole bunch of things for us to be able to use and they're great.
11:59Yeah.
12:00But it also must have been very challenging for you to put all of these features in the Switch version
12:06because there's so many additions that you feel that make the game feel much more fluid.
12:11Yes, it's been, now, after the first year, it's been good that the team actually had a chance to get
12:21more familiarized with the hardware, with how they can optimize even more, what they can do to cater to its
12:31strengths.
12:31And we had that advantage on our side as well because this is the second year after all.
12:37And they did a great job.
12:39I'm here just representing them, but they take all the credit because the game looks stunning, plays beautiful and has
12:48a lot more depth than last year.
12:50So what is the feature that you've added that you're most proud of that you've achieved?
12:54My own personal favorite, the new Kick-Off, for sure.
12:58Yeah.
12:59So we're just announcing it at Gamescom, this year, and we're letting everyone enjoy it.
13:08It's basically an entire overhaul of Kick-Off, which was just a one-off match for the most part, that
13:17people would kind of get used to the game and play with friends.
13:20But the main challenge of it was that it was never persistent.
13:26You didn't get any sense of progression or real accomplishment.
13:29And say, we were playing for a number of years, and you always told me that, hey, I'm better than
13:37you in FIFA.
13:37And I always said the opposite.
13:39I'm better than you in FIFA.
13:40Now, that's not going to be just hearsay because the game will actually track your progress and your match-up.
13:47Uh-oh.
13:47Always.
13:49It's something I am really excited about because when I was a kid, I don't remember which footy it was,
13:55but there was one where I played it with a friend.
13:59And we played it for more than 200 games, and it really kept the score, and it kept the goal
14:05difference.
14:06Yeah, I think it was lounge mode or something similar.
14:08But, yeah, that's the intent, to create more, to want to create progression, give people a sense of accomplishment, and
14:18to also be able to customize and diversify their own experience in the game.
14:23Because we're also introducing the concept of house rules in kick-off.
14:28Do you want to have a look?
14:29Sure.
14:30I'll forfeit this match.
14:32So that doesn't count.
14:36I will accept that.
14:43So, yeah, we can go in kick-off, and here, basically, this is where you select your profiles, and go
14:53to select name, basically.
14:54Enter a new name, and this is how you create a local profile that you can then use to identify
15:02yourself at all times, and everything is stored on this profile, basically.
15:14Ready.
15:17Okay.
15:19Oh, actually, let's go back.
15:20Okay.
15:21And let me show the house rules as well.
15:23Ah, yes.
15:23So, by pressing the right stick, you go into house rules, and there's a bunch of things here.
15:30I was saying earlier that Champions League is integrated as well, and if someone, for example, wants to just play
15:35a Champions League final with a friend,
15:37he can just go in here and activate Champions League.
15:41He plays a one-off final together with his friends.
15:44But there's also much more to it, because, for example, you can play Home and Away, you can play Best
15:52of Three, you can play Best of Five,
15:54and the game tracks that and determines the winner at the end.
15:58Not only that, but you can also mix and match different rules together.
16:03Yeah, this is actually something that's only possible on the Nintendo Switch version, right?
16:06Yes.
16:06So, King of the Hill, and this is classic and pretty self-explanatory, but the winner gets to keep his
16:13team, while the loser has to change his team.
16:16So, if you combine King of the Hill with Best of Five, it means that every time the loser will
16:22have to change his team, which adds a little bit of strategic depth to it.
16:26Random teams is one of my personal favorites, because it gives you a subset of teams to choose from.
16:34But what's interesting about it is that, say, for example, you get Chelsea in your first subset, and I get
16:41Real Madrid in my first subset, and I choose Real Madrid.
16:44You're going to think twice, because you're not happy with Chelsea against Real Madrid, but you're going to think twice
16:49about randomizing, because you might get even worse teams in your next pool.
16:54And you might think, I'm going to stick with Chelsea for this one.
16:58Right.
16:58So, really, really quite an engaging mode that we hope people will enjoy and be able to always come back
17:07to, and just change the way they...
17:10I'm pretty sure they will.
17:11It really feels like the kick-off creates a lot of new friend dynamics.
17:15Yes.
17:16And, of course, you can now also play online with your friends.
17:20Yes, we're introducing online friendlies, yeah.
17:22Yeah.
17:22Friend dynamics.
17:23Friend dynamics.
17:25Enemies.
17:26And there's also something that people have always been vocal about.
17:32No rules.
17:33So, basically, there is nothing.
17:35No falls, no offsides, no bookings, nothing.
17:39Next to FIFA 99.
17:39Yeah, you can play for free.
17:41And the other one that is a favorite amongst players is Survival, where every time you score, a random player
17:49from your team gets kicked off.
17:52It's my favorite one.
17:53Yeah.
17:54It's my favorite one.
17:54This is such a great idea.
17:55Yeah.
17:56This is endless replayability.
17:58Exactly.
17:58So, have you talked to your fans about that and, like, heard what they think about it?
18:02Like, I guess they are super psyched.
18:04Yeah, they are super psyched because now there's basically a new mode in the game that they can come back
18:14to and come back to and enjoy with their friends in various ways.
18:18Yeah.
18:18So, all of these different combinations, obviously, there's a finite number of them.
18:24but it allows you to enjoy the game for a longer period of time and not get bored.
18:30Okay.
18:30Did you want to go into it?
18:32Sure.
18:32Okay, all right, let's do it because I have one really important question later on.
18:38So, you see now that King of the Hill is active, Best of Five is active, and Survival is active.
18:44So, whoever scores a goal is happy and not happy at the same time.
18:48Exactly.
18:48All right.
18:53Are you going to go with PSG again?
18:56I can do that.
18:58I guess this is sort of a self-imposed King of the Hill.
19:03I'll go with Juventus.
19:05Nice.
19:06There he is.
19:08Sounds like a reasonable setup.
19:10Nice.
19:10Yeah.
19:11Yeah, that must have been interesting that Ronaldo decided to change teams.
19:16It was, believe me, it was very interesting, but we always, I mean, in FIFA, anything like that can happen.
19:23Yeah.
19:23So, we always have a plan B in case it does.
19:28There's also something that I didn't mention about the new kickoff.
19:30You see here, welcome to the new kickoff.
19:32That's where once we get the chance to actually play and build a rivalry together, this is where certain key
19:39messages will appear.
19:41And if we go in leaderboards, for example, you will see a host of different stats being tracked between each
19:48other and you can actually track this against any of your opponents.
19:55So, you can see who has the better position, who takes more shots on goal, basically, it's the place where
20:02you find who owns the bragging rights.
20:06Exactly.
20:07Exactly.
20:08Exactly.
20:08Exactly.
20:11This is also a bit more of a proper stadium here.
20:14Yeah.
20:14For sure.
20:15And one other thing we did this year in the spirit of authenticity as well, I don't know if you
20:20noticed last year that if you were playing a game in the Premier League or the Bundesliga or La Liga,
20:26they were mostly looking and feeling the same.
20:28Yeah.
20:29Right now, we've introduced 100% authentic official broadcast packages for each of those leagues.
20:37Wow, great.
20:37So, exactly as you see on TV, the EPL, the La Liga and the Bundesliga will show in the game.
20:43And that makes such a big difference.
20:46I can imagine.
20:47We can, after this match, we can also look at those as well.
20:53Right?
20:53Good one.
20:54There's a roar outside.
20:56Yeah.
20:56They're all cheering for you.
20:58No, I don't think that.
20:58Big FIFA 19 fan.
21:09Ref.
21:10Oh, nothing, nothing.
21:11Are you sure you didn't put the wrap off?
21:13Oh, no.
21:15Oh.
21:16Oh.
21:17Okay, dear.
21:17So, now I'm going to get a player kicked off.
21:22Yeah.
21:23And I'm going to play in 10.
21:26Is it a random player?
21:27Yes.
21:28Okay.
21:28Where do you see who it was?
21:30Yes.
21:30Let's see.
21:31Oh, so Matuidi is off.
21:33Matuidi is off.
21:34You can see that sign there, which is different than a player getting red carded.
21:39Yeah.
21:39You can swap that position, but you can't actually swap the player in or out.
21:44I love that.
21:51And now he's going to have a lot more space.
21:53Yeah.
21:54You can already see it.
21:54That's in the...
21:56Yeah.
21:56I was going to say.
21:57Oh, come on.
21:58It's outside the box.
21:59Of course.
22:00I talked with the referee before the game.
22:12And you mentioned it earlier and I...
22:14Oh!
22:15And I didn't get a chance to say anything about it, but one of the most requested, the most requested
22:23feature from the fans and players last year was the ability to play with friends online.
22:30Yeah.
22:30And we added that ability this year through online friendly.
22:35So over a five-match season, your history is being recorded there as well.
22:40You can play with friends, with any of your friends online.
22:43You create a game, an invite gets sent.
22:48Your friend accepts the invite and he can join your session.
22:52Great.
22:53And you can do that not only in FIFA, but also in Ultimate Team.
22:57We have to talk about that.
22:58Of course.
22:59We really do.
23:00Because that's what I wanted to ask you when I said I have an important question.
23:03So let's talk about FIFA Ultimate Team.
23:05Absolutely.
23:05The most popular game mode, if I might say so.
23:08What can players expect?
23:10Yeah.
23:10So there has been quite a bit of work done in Ultimate Team as well.
23:17So Champions League is the biggest thing there as well because it's been deeply integrated in the mode and they
23:25will see Champions League content appear throughout the year.
23:30Which I hope they will be enjoying.
23:34The other thing that I just mentioned is the ability to finally play with friends, with your fat club.
23:43Yeah.
23:45Which is absolutely great because a lot of players are spending a lot of time building their teams up and
23:53then they can't actually brag to their friends and win against them.
23:59So now they can do that as well.
24:02And last but certainly not least, if we, I mentioned before that we added authentic broadcast packages for La Liga,
24:12EPL and Bundesliga, we didn't forget about Ultimate Team at all.
24:17And we changed the broadcast package there as well to make it more modern, feel like 2018.
24:25So you will see that Indera as well.
24:28Sounds really good.
24:31I think this is Indera.
24:32Oh no, no, no, no.
24:33It's always such a close match between you and me.
24:35I think that we both are quite focused on sort of defending and obstructing the other components.
24:45But I always love when like Andre is talking about new stuff coming to FIFA 19 and he's really relaxed
24:51until like this very last moment when you're on news.
24:55But this is also how it goes when you play it in your living room.
24:58I mean, you're just talking with each other and then there's this sort of gentleman's rule that you stop talking
25:03as soon as you are close to the box.
25:13Oh, that was a mistake.
25:18What I also like about the survival mode is like, how many times did someone tell me something like, I
25:26would even win against you with like five players.
25:28Yeah.
25:29Okay, show it to me.
25:30Exactly.
25:31Exactly.
25:32Now they have no chances keeping that.
25:39So Chris, it's on you.
25:40Yeah.
25:41To get one of your players out now.
25:43Yeah, it's interesting that I actually want one of my players to be sent off.
25:46Right?
25:47He's making a play.
25:50Good try.
25:52Yeah.
25:53But it's interesting.
25:53You can already see that the pitch is starting to see.
25:56Yeah, yeah.
25:57Wear and tear.
25:59For sure.
26:00Of course.
26:01And there's also been, except apart from the pitch, there's been a lot of work done on visuals overall.
26:09So lightning and shadows, more precisely, have seen a lot of work just to make them more dynamic, more deeper
26:22in a way.
26:23And give players a sense of realism, of added realism in the game.
26:29We're also adding quite a bit of La Liga content into the game.
26:35A lot of stadiums.
26:37Oh, oh, oh, oh.
26:45We used a very different technique and you will see that they have a lot more.
26:52Meunier.
26:54One time I didn't know this.
26:55They have a lot more details in their architecture and how they've been portrayed in the game.
27:02Now, let's see which player got sent off from Europe.
27:06Oh, Rabiot.
27:07That's good, Rabiot.
27:07I have more room now.
27:09Exactly.
27:12Oh, you can see it immediately.
27:20I just want to wait it out.
27:21So I feel like we have talked about so much already, but like, is there anything else which we haven't
27:27talked about yet?
27:28Because there are so many changes, I can't believe it honestly.
27:31There are, yes.
27:33I think we covered quite a bit.
27:36I do hope, as I was saying, my personal favorite is the new kickoff.
27:41Yeah.
27:42And I do hope, oh, I do hope players will enjoy it and start playing around with it.
27:50And they'll probably discover even new ways and even more engaging ways to play than we ever thought.
28:00Oh, my God.
28:02Pretty good.
28:02Marco Verratti.
28:03Well, I guess someone is going off again.
28:06Let's see who it is.
28:08No, I'm pretty sure they will.
28:09But it's really nice is that what you can really see is the game is more fluid.
28:17Yeah.
28:17There's so many visual changes as well as gameplay changes.
28:22And there are many more ways to play with your friends, both offline and online.
28:27Yeah.
28:27And I think that makes me at least look really forward to FIFA 19.
28:32Yeah.
28:32Let's see who sent off.
28:36Oh, no.
28:36Even better.
28:37You have a minute.
28:39Oh, no.
28:41Sorry.
28:41Even better.
28:43Silva.
28:44Yeah.
28:44And like you said before, Chris, there are obviously, of course, big changes, but also
28:49all these small details, all this love that you put into the game and try to make it even
28:55better than it was in FIFA 18.
28:57I think it will definitely pay off and people will love it.
29:00Yeah.
29:01We do hope so because teams both in Bucharest and Vancouver have put in a lot of effort
29:08to do this and especially coming off World Cup as well, because we added World Cup just
29:13a couple of months ago to 18 and we've seen a lot more players come into the game.
29:18We do hope that all those players get to enjoy 19 as well.
29:21Yeah.
29:22Are you also talking to like celebrities in case of like hearing what they have to say about
29:29the game and if they have some kind of game changes they would like?
29:33We always get input from everyone equally.
29:37Okay.
29:37All right.
29:38Nobody has a bigger say than anyone.
29:41Well said.
29:42Well said.
29:42Except Chris.
29:44Of course.
29:46Well, Andre, thank you so much for this presentation.
29:49Thank you very much.
29:58Chris.
30:00Thank you very much.
