Kerry town celebrates after Jessie Buckley’s best actress Oscars win

Jessie Buckley’s family and friends admit their pride after she won the Oscar for best actress.She became the first Irish actress to win the prize, taking home the award for her portrayal of William Shakespeare’s wife Agnes Hathaway – historically known as Anne – in the film adaptation of Maggie O’Farrell novel Hamnet.While Buckley’s parents and three sisters attended the ceremony in Los Angeles, around 60 family and friends watched the 98th Academy Awards in the family hotel and bar.On Monday, the lobby of the Arbutus hotel was turned into a radio studio as RTE broadcast a series of interviews about Jessie’s upbringing and career.IVS in order - Jessie Buckley's first cousin Brendan Fuller; Fiona Crowley, who runs a stage school in Killarney; and Marie Moloney, a lifelong member of the Killarney Musical Society and Irish Labour Party politician, speak about Jessie Buckley's Oscars win at the Buckley Bar, where the family watched the ceremony together.

00:04It was like a carnival from the get-go. It was like a reunion and a get-together and there

00:11was tuxedos and dresses and glitz and glam and everything and John it was just

00:15beautiful to have such a positive family get-together you know for such an amazing reason.

00:26I soaked it all in but it like it doesn't actually land at all at all. I think I won't

00:32believe it until I'm holding Oscar you know. No pressure Jessie but you know.

00:49Everybody was just kind of really excited at the thought of it and I think it's only

00:54dawning on a lot of people this morning as to what a huge achievement that actually was you

00:57know. She worked with us in my own stage school so you know we were very lucky to have her

01:03kind of took her under my wing a little bit and then when it came to the reality TV show

01:07for I Do Anything she asked me to go to the BBC studios with her so that was like fantastic.

01:18I've known Jessie Buckley since she was a child. The Jessie Buckley you see on the Oscar stage

01:25or on any stage, Bifida's, Baptist or whatever it is, is the Jessie Buckley that left Killarney

01:3018 years ago to go into that big world of acting and she has not changed not one bit.

01:35She's still the Jessie Buckley we all love and adore.
