00:14Yay!
00:16Thank you!
00:33Ladies and gentlemen of the Tempest Company, this is your 15-minute call. 15 minutes.
00:38Sweetie, I just wanted to give you a little thank you, Prezzy, for everything you've done for us.
00:44I can't believe it's our last show.
00:48I'm gonna miss you so much, my lovely.
00:51Yeah, me too.
00:57Nate, hon?
00:59Is everything all right?
01:02Spirits hear me.
01:04Your time needs must curse, but they'll not pinch.
01:08No, it sounds brilliant.
01:10And it's the lead, is it?
01:11Great. Okay, yeah.
01:13No, I can get a tape over to you.
01:15When's the deadline?
01:17I'll find someone. Okay, my darling.
01:19Let's do lunch when I'm back, okay?
01:21And I'm paying this time, you cheeky monkey.
01:24All right, you can pay.
01:25Okay, lots of love. Bye.
01:28Another self-tape.
01:29So annoying.
01:31I'll tell you what it was, but...
01:32I've just got to sign an NDA, you know, so...
01:34That's cool, Mum.
01:36Pleased for you.
01:37Guys. Guys, we've got a situation.
01:39Like, a bad one.
01:40Richard's a no-show. His phone's going straight to voicemail.
01:42I think we all know where Prospero's toddled after you.
01:50And it's no, no, never. No, no, never.
01:56There it is.
01:58I guess our last night was always going to be a mad one.
02:01After the way this tour's gone.
02:04But we both made it to the end.
02:09No, no, never. No more.
02:20Rich.
02:22Rich, come on.
02:24Rich, we've got to go.
02:26Skedaddle, youth.
02:27Rich, come on, there's an audience.
02:28They've paid to see us.
02:30To see you.
02:32Come on, you're not going to let them down, are you?
02:38All right, come on.
02:40There you go.
02:45All right, all right, all right, all right.
02:52Oh, sweet Lord.
02:55Mr Dempster?
02:56You doing OK?
02:58Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be?
03:00Just a little dry around the mouth, that's all.
03:01Final call for Miranda.
03:02Act one, scene two.
03:03Final call, Miranda.
03:07Oh, no, no, no, no.
03:08That's a prop.
03:11Oh, not obliged.
03:21Then to sea boys and go hang.
03:30This is a scurvy tune.
03:35But here's my comfort.
03:37Do not torment me.
03:39Oh.
03:39Whoa!
03:40What's the matter?
03:41Have we devils here?
03:43If all the wine in my bottle will recover him,
03:47I will help his ague.
03:53Ah, that's a brave god.
03:55And bear celestial liquor.
03:57Come, amen.
03:58I will pour some in my other mouth.
03:59Oh.
04:06Stefano!
04:07Ah!
04:08Lost the other mouth call me.
04:10Why?
04:10This is a devil and no monster.
04:12Stefano, I am Trinculo.
04:14Be not afeard.
04:16Thy good friend, Trinculo!
04:18Very Trinculo indeed!
04:20I swear upon that bottle to be thy true subject.
04:24I'll show thee every fertile inch of the island.
04:30I see.
04:31I see.
04:34I prithee.
04:38Let me show thee where crabs grow.
04:41And with my long nails I'll dig thee pig...
04:47Pig nuts.
04:51Oh my god, Michael!
04:55Nathan, we need our first aid here!
04:58Michael, put it to me.
05:01Oh my god, he's not breathing!
05:03Someone call an ambulance!
05:05No!
05:06Wait! Somebody call an ambulance!
05:39Oh my god, I'll have to run my soul!
05:44Have I been?
05:44You can love me.
05:47Have I been burnt my way.
05:48Thomas what's up are you at the shot sir no I am practicing my darts oh can't say you don't
05:54need
05:54it since I got myself a decent set of arrows my form was improved get in I'm presuming this isn't
06:03a social call you got a case a suspected poisoning occurred during a theater performance the victim
06:09collapsed on stage what you sure it wasn't an accident according to paramedics the symptoms
06:14suggest it's cyanide poisoning interesting no everything all right I think I might have just
06:23nearly killed Harry what are you doing man you can't play on here it's not safe
06:32Michael Farrah 32 years old suddenly collapsed halfway through the second act of the performance
06:39yeah the tempest the poster said yeah last 10 months they've been touring beaches all over
06:44the world with it this was their final performance sergeant Fletcher's taken all the necessary
06:49statements Caliban I'll take it uh one sec let me check um yes yes he was I mean two points
06:58for you
06:58inspector how did you work that out well he looks monster-y you know not a human
07:05I assume the smell of almonds got the paramedics thinking it was cyanide which is fast acting so
07:10do we know what he consumed before he died well apparently he drank from this moments before it
07:17happened it's a fiasco I mean I'm trying my best here sir I haven't been here for long I just
07:21got here
07:21no this is a fiasco oh it's a traditional Italian wine bottle he'll have drank from this in act two
07:28scene
07:28two the famous drinking scene let me check for you again boom shakalaka two more points for you
07:34again inspector it was indeed act two scene two oh the man knows this shakespeare he does who knew
07:42cherry juice that'll be for the red wine so chances are we're looking at our murder weapon that's what
07:49you think right but it can't be because two others drank from the same bottle during the performance
07:55stefano and trinculo that one I don't know sir but based on your previous farm two points again
08:00so what happened to the other two actors who drank from this not a thing the paramedics checked them
08:05out and they seem fine and um they recorded the show seeing as it was the last performance so
08:11I will watch it back and check to see what happened but if they did drink from the same bottle
08:18then he
08:19must have ingested the poison some other way let's see what the rest of the company have to say
08:31these are two that drank from the same bottle as the victim
08:34just gorman and anya chambers she and the victim were in a relationship together and she's taking it
08:38pretty badly who are the others so this is richard dempster he directed this production and he also
08:46plays uh prosper there comes a moment in every actor's life a certain character's call to you
08:56i had no choice i had to submit okay and this is nathan burns he's the company stage manager
09:05i swear if there was poison in that bottle it wasn't me that put it in there actually mr burns
09:10we're working on the basis that the poison was administered another way really oh thank god yeah
09:15the cyanide's fast acting so if it was in your system we pretty much know by now we'd like to
09:20know what else mr far consumed in the 20 minutes or so before he died mikey never ate before a
09:27show
09:27not for two or three hours did he drink anything i just sip water what did he drink from uh
09:35one of
09:36those water flask thingies um there it is
09:43okay so take me through exactly what happened this afternoon anything out of the ordinary we went up a
09:51bit late by about 15 minutes how come um just um technical hitch and once the show had started
10:02oh um michael was um on stage in scene one he doubles as the bosun taking the top sail
10:0910 to the master's whistle then a very very swift makeup costume change reappear as caliban in act
10:19one scene two anya helps and well helped with that then how did he seem then fine and what about
10:29before he went on stage and collapsed a bit nervous pacing buying his nails he always was before that
10:37scene there were a couple of tricky speeches in it but he wasn't looking ill
10:43can any of you think why someone might want to do this to mr farrah
10:50mikey was loved by the whole company very talented boy he had the whole world at his feet
11:07if we're working on the basis that the killer got the poison into michael system 15 20 minutes prior
11:13to him dying on stage and it must be one of the cast or a stage crew that
11:21sir why kill someone like that in front of an audience and on the very last show of the tour
11:29i mean after today they could all go home right they never have to see each other again so why
11:35did
11:35he have to die on that stage today this is a public beach right well we're gonna need some security
11:44to
11:44keep an eye on the crime scene i get sergeant fletcher and officer rose to do a sweep of the
11:48place on it
11:58you all right mr dempster oh oh um 10 months on tour will do this to you
12:07come on richard it's time to go
12:22yes
12:22well i recognize you from somewhere
12:25oh yeah it's a whole community police scheme thing we're doing sounds thrilling
12:32i didn't catch your name in the frenzy of it all sergeant matty fletcher sergeant matty fletcher
12:38would you like to go for a drink with me uh while i'm on the island no that's inappropriate mr
12:45gorman you know with me being a police officer and you a possible suspect in a murder case
12:50right yeah well that makes sense um i hope that wasn't too embarrassing not for me it wasn't good
12:57good um i guess as an actor i lost all sense of shame a while ago did he just ask
13:05you on a date during a
13:06murder investigation that's a red flag right there and maybe he's the killer maybe he's trying to get
13:10close to the police to keep an eye on the investigation or maybe he's just a bozo that's also a
13:16possibility
13:16mm-hmm crazy man
13:31take a bow mikey because it's all over now i told you it was always gonna end this way
13:50oh that's great man i'll get the beers yeah yeah and some snacks nice what time should we say
13:56around seven ish yeah cool man all right nice one see you then i just arranged a dance night with
14:03daryl tonight he's gonna get his mates around it's gonna be a bit like being back home you know
14:08lads standing around the dartboard beers banter the only thing that's missing is a sticky pub carpet
14:14and some pork scratchings pork scratchings yeah they are the quintessential english pub snack
14:21it's fried pigskin i'll get some sent over for you oh no rush oh lab results uh yes
14:32and they confirmed the victim died from potassium cyanide poisoning no surprise there they checked
14:37michael's own water bottle and found no traces of the poison in it whatsoever nothing in his water
14:43bowl as for the fiasco cherry juice fairly high glucose levels they noticed but most importantly a lethal dose
14:56of potassium cyanide that is surprising poison was in the bottle that our victim and the other two
15:04actors drank from on stage mm-hmm so how can three people drink from the same poison bottle
15:10and only one of them die it doesn't make any sense
15:30well we can rule out the pretending to drink theory i mean these guys are drinking from the bottle for
15:35real no question so what if one of the other two actors slipped the poisoning on stage just before
15:41michael drank from it yeah rewind it a bit okay play could it be jez now the bottle is in
15:50view the
15:50whole time and he's not adding anything to it also michael's not the last person to drink from that bottle
15:56seb's right ania drinks after michael so even if something had been added by jez ania would have
16:02consumed it as well how how do they all drink the same liquid with with poison in it but only
16:13michael farrah dies
16:17who's sergeant fletcher on the phone too oh an actor's agent back in the uk when we spoke with
16:23the rest of the cast this morning a um casey briscoe who plays miranda she said she saw nathan burns
16:30accosting the victim just moments before the show even started i'm telling you this is all going
16:35to come back on you and sooner than you think and there's rumors going around that there's history
16:39between them so casey slash miranda said we should speak to this agent did you get anything from the
16:44search nothing interesting i was suspicious you know i've never seen him do this before
16:56me neither inspector what's this funky true when you've been home in god i don't know it's been in
17:04my head since yesterday i can't shake it i can't place it wait a minute
17:25bingo it was an advert it was on the telly about five years ago they kept playing it
17:33oh see that's what i was humming oh and why is this relevant wait as a woman i've seen my
17:43fair
17:43share of what brain can say that's why and i know they can leave a pretty nasty pong but now
17:48i found
17:49with booster i can leave that's nathan burns the stage manager man he's like a better actor than all
17:55the others put together nathan burns was an actor and he has history with our victim i just spoke to
18:02an agent in london who used to represent nathan she remembers him as being super ambitious the
18:09whiffbuster ad wasn't the end of his rainbow then the agent said about eight years ago nathan had a
18:14really important audition for the production of macbeth at the national theater in london
18:19and he didn't get it but guess who did michael farrow and more than that nathan went to the police
18:27at the time he was adamant that he was spiked before the audition by michael by michael
18:47so i get this big audition and i go down to london and stay in a cheap hotel near the
18:52theater
18:54michael's staying in the same place me and him get chatting in the bar the night before
18:58what were you drinking just softs but michael insists on getting the last round
19:03i go to bed at 10. next thing it's midday and i've missed the audition you think he drugged you
19:09he was taking out the competition and you went to the police they said there wasn't enough evidence
19:14whatever he'd given me was already out of my system what happened after that i never got another break
19:20like it did a bit of theater and education a couple of tv ads with buster yeah with buster
19:31and then i quit so you tour with this guy for 10 months and it never comes up
19:41mr burns just before the last show you were seen arguing with michael saying
19:47it's all gonna come back on you and sooner than you think mate you're referring to him sabotaging your
19:56audition that's some revenge spiking his drink like he spiked yours i didn't kill michael because of
20:01what he did to me eight years ago still must have bothered you though right otherwise why bring it up
20:05well i just i couldn't stop myself i was never gonna see him again
20:16we'll be in touch
20:24there is definitely something he's not telling us you think
20:42rich the police have been asking questions i didn't tell them what he did to you
20:49but if there's heat on me again i don't think i can stay quiet any longer
20:57to my own self be true hey
21:02oh delroy
21:06same again if you would
21:07no problem
21:16sir how come you know so much about shakespeare seems unlikely you know with you being a
21:23day of the march much of the day kind of guy no disrespect when i was a kid i used
21:30to hang around
21:31outside the stage doors of western theaters yeah in case i saw someone famous yeah they meet vin diesel
21:37no i don't think vin diesel ever trod the boards of london anyway i got to know some of the
21:44staff and
21:45they would let me sneak in and watch whatever was on at the time so yeah i have seen my
21:49fair share
21:51of the board's works
21:54also i got talking to the actor sometimes and they would say how hard a gig it was you know
22:00the failed
22:00auditions the unemployment doing rubbish jobs just to make ends meet it was it was tough competitive
22:07as our first suspect found out well could it be that that pushed michael to do what he did to
22:12nathan
22:12but it also shows there's a dark side to our victim spiking someone's drink just so he can get the
22:18role he wanted that's ruthless well whatever it was that led someone to poison michael farrah well
22:23we still haven't got a scooby how we pulled it off i mean the man died on stage right in
22:28the
22:28middle of a performance drinking from the same bottle as these two but they didn't die he did
22:38do i wilson speaking yeah i can talk now
22:45okay
22:48yeah yeah i understand have you spoken to my brother about this he has right
22:58okay um well um thanks for letting me know
23:06so is everything all right
23:14i knew mum would leave everything to solo
23:18i just didn't think he'd put the house up for sale as soon as it was his
23:24i thought we'd at least chat about it first and what about your mother's things
23:31according to the solicitor is arranged for house clearance company to take everything and
23:36auction it all off it all seems so rushed to me of course it's going to feel well i would
23:42have liked at
23:43at least a last look around the place maybe keep something of hers to remember her by
23:56then call your brother and tell him that's what you'd like to happen
24:01It's got to understand, right?
24:17Hey!
24:19You?
24:19Yes!
24:21How can I help?
24:23Oh, well, actually, I thought I could help you, you know,
24:26wind down after a hard day's policing the streets.
24:30I've got some beers, picnic blanket,
24:33and, yeah, I thought we could find a quiet beach
24:36and get to know each other.
24:39Mr Gorman?
24:40Yes.
24:41Did we not already have this conversation?
24:43We did, yes, but I felt what was happening was,
24:47you know, you were on duty, you had your colleagues around you,
24:50and I think you were saying what you felt you had to say.
24:53Mm, no.
24:55Come on, I'm not on this island for very long.
24:57How often do you get to do this with someone like me?
25:01Let's just have some fun.
25:03Here we go.
25:04Here we go.
25:04Hmm.
25:06Hmm.
25:07Yes.
25:08Yes.
25:09There you go.
25:13Cheers.
25:15Actually, now that I think about it,
25:16I did say that I was going to meet my friend.
25:19What's the time now?
25:20Oh, no, you're spilling it, you're spilling it.
25:22Oh, what a shame.
25:24I do have somewhere to be right now, though.
25:29Do not bother me again unless it's related to the case, Mr Gorman.
25:36You understand, though.
25:38Good.
25:39You enjoyed the rest of your evening.
25:58Sergeant Fletcher, good morning.
25:59What have you got?
26:00So I've been doing background checks on the other cast members,
26:03and I noticed Anya Chambers and Jez Gorman were in the same play back in 2021,
26:10and they ended up getting together.
26:13And, wait for it, they only got married a year later.
26:17Hang on, I thought Anya was with Michael.
26:18She was.
26:19She left Jez for him during the tour they'd been on.
26:23Why did this not show up sooner?
26:25Because it wasn't officially registered yet.
26:28They had a vow ceremony in the forest somewhere.
26:30There was a whole Midsummer Night's Dream thing going on.
26:33Yeah.
26:34Yeah, you should have seen some of the photos they posted on social media.
26:37That was some dress she wore.
26:39Respectfully, of course.
26:41So, how did Jez feel about being replaced by Michael?
26:44Well, according to the other cast members,
26:46really not so good seems to be the answer.
26:49Mm-hmm.
26:55Look, I don't know who said that, but it's nonsense.
26:57So, when Anya told you she was leaving you for Michael, you weren't upset?
27:01Sorry, why is she here?
27:02Is that normal procedure to bring a uniformed sergeant along?
27:06It is.
27:06Yep.
27:07Yes, it is.
27:08OK.
27:09Fine.
27:10So, it's nonsense, is it, that you were upset about Anya?
27:13Yes.
27:14I mean, Anya's the one who's losing out, not me.
27:17All our mutual friends are siding with me.
27:19She's the one who's going to have to move in with her parents when she gets back home, not me.
27:22I mean, it hurts.
27:24Yeah.
27:25Of course it hurt, really hurt.
27:27But I didn't kill Michael because of it.
27:29I wasn't looking for revenge.
27:33Ah, this is my agent, so I should probably take...
27:35No.
27:37You shouldn't.
27:38OK, she'll leave a voicemail.
27:40This is a murder investigation, Mr Gorman.
27:43Your wife fell in love with the victim.
27:45That's a very strong motive.
27:47Well, that's where you're wrong, actually.
27:48They didn't fall in love.
27:51I mean, maybe she did, I don't know, but...
27:53It wasn't reciprocated.
27:54What makes you say that?
27:58Because he told me so.
28:02A few nights before our final performance, we all had a bit of a sesh at the hotel bar.
28:08Some of us went for a dip in the sea.
28:10Michael comes up to me and says he's going to end it with Anya because he's got some off-Broadway
28:16play and she's not what he needs right now.
28:20And did he end it with her?
28:22Yeah.
28:24Five minutes before the beginning of our final show.
28:28Talk about timing, eh?
28:40Anya's in room 352.
28:42That was Seb.
28:44The security team at the crime scene say somebody tried to break into the dressing room area last night.
28:49Guess a description?
28:51Is that something that we could have missed?
28:54Right, you and Officer Oz get down to the crime scene.
28:56Let's go and talk to Anya.
28:59Yeah, well, when's the deadline?
29:00Yes, Seb?
29:02Yeah, I'm sure I can get some.
29:03It'll be on tape.
29:06Mikey and I had gone to collect Rich from this bar.
29:09He drinks it.
29:11That was why we went up late.
29:14So that was the technical, Rich.
29:16We literally had five minutes before the performance was about to start.
29:20Mr. Dempster, come on, let's get you dressed.
29:22Fight! Fight!
29:24Michael just blurts it out.
29:27I can't do this anymore.
29:29I'm going to New York.
29:32I'm going alone.
29:34You gave up your marriage for Michael.
29:36You risked everything.
29:40It must have hurt them when he told you it was over between you two.
29:45I don't know.
29:49What was it that drew you to Michael?
29:52It felt like...
29:54A kindred spirit.
29:57It was something I'd never had with Jess.
30:00In what way?
30:02Mikey cared so much about his work, but it terrified him.
30:07He was just striving to be as good as he could.
30:10Knowing it could all be torn down by a critic or the audience.
30:14And that vulnerability drew me to him.
30:17Because I feel it too, in everything.
30:22Okay, so in that moment, when he told you'd finished with you, you must have felt...
30:27Betrayed.
30:29Angry.
30:29And within the owa, he was dead.
30:32What?
30:32What?
30:33You think I did it?
30:36Because of...
30:37I remember...
30:38How, even?
30:43You think I'd carry around a bottle of cyanide with me just in case I get dumped?
30:49And if you'd forgotten, I drank from the same bottle as him.
30:53Why would I do that if I knew there was poison in it?
30:56Yeah.
31:01You know, my mom's church has this dirty thing going on.
31:06And sometimes, I think about doing a bit hard to myself, you know?
31:10It's just the words sometimes.
31:13I really struggle with the words.
31:17Like, um...
31:18Cool.
31:22The winds did sing it to me.
31:24And the thunder, that deep and dreadful organ pipe, pronounced the name of Prosper.
31:31It did bass me trespass.
31:33Bass me trespass?
31:34I mean, what does that even mean?
31:36Like, bass me trespass?
31:38Like a boombox type of bass?
31:39Less of the bass, more of the searching.
31:42Sergeant Fletcher.
31:43Commissioner, afternoon.
31:44Afternoon, sir.
31:46I want to have a word.
31:53How is the investigation going?
31:55We're making progress, sir.
31:57We've already got a few suspects in mind.
32:00Is everything all right, sir?
32:03A complaint has been made accusing you of unprofessional conduct.
32:10By who?
32:11Jess Gorman claims you tried to initiate a romantic relationship with him.
32:16He said what?
32:17And when he turned you down, twice, you pursued him as a suspect in the case.
32:25That is just not true.
32:27We interviewed him because there was evidence to suggest he had a motive.
32:33And it was Mr Gorman who asked me out twice.
32:36I swear to you, sir.
32:38He is making this all up.
32:40I mean, I would never do something like that, sir.
32:43You believe me, right?
32:46Look, sir.
32:47Ask Officer Rose.
32:49He was there the first time Mr Gorman asked me out.
32:52He will tell you.
32:54Very well.
32:57Leave it with me.
33:06Exactly, what am I looking for?
33:09Yes.
33:11Though, cannot find a thing?
33:13Hey.
33:15Ah.
33:18Hmm.
33:28Sarge!
33:29I think I found something.
33:32What is it?
33:37It's a beach like a key.
33:40There's a few of them two minutes off the road.
33:45Oh.
33:59Syringe.
34:04Well, I'm assuming that's the cyanide.
34:06Mm-hmm.
34:12A tin of throat lozenges.
34:14You all right then, Mr Dempster?
34:23Right, Mr Dempster.
34:26This lot has got your fingerprints all over it.
34:30No one else's.
34:31You care to explain?
34:34It's thanks to Michael Farah that I fell off the wagon.
34:37Sorry?
34:38Before this tour, I've been sober 20 years.
34:41What happened?
34:43Michael was offered this off-Broadway show.
34:46It's going to get him some good publicity in the States.
34:49Well, at the same time, we had the chance of extending our tour by three months to South America.
34:55And you didn't want to lose your caliber?
34:56No.
34:57And, I mean, Michael was contractually obliged to stay if further dates were added.
35:01I refused to release him.
35:03Well, we know Michael was very ambitious, so I assume he wasn't happy about that.
35:08It's our first day off in the Caribbean.
35:12Trinidad.
35:13We all spent the day by the pool.
35:14Cheers.
35:19I didn't realize till it was too late.
35:21Oh, dear boy.
35:23Putting shots of vodka in my soft drink all day.
35:27Once I got the taste for it well.
35:30Double whiskey, please.
35:33Twenty years without so much as a sip.
35:35It all came crashing down.
35:38Nathan and dear Anya, they were first to realize I was back on the source.
35:42Took it in turns, bless him.
35:45Putting me to bed.
35:46Did you tell them what Michael did?
35:48Yes.
35:48I don't think Anya believed me.
35:50But Nathan did.
35:52Nathan?
35:53Yeah.
35:54There is definitely something he's not telling us.
35:57He said that Michael had done something not dissimilar to him once, despite his drink.
36:03So that's what Nathan was holding back.
36:06When he confronted Michael before the final show, it wasn't just about his experience eight years ago.
36:13I'm telling you, this is all going to come back on you and sooner than you think, mate.
36:16It was also about what he'd been doing to you.
36:19The irony of it is that funding fell through and the end tour was never extended.
36:24Michael got exactly what he wanted.
36:26No, I had the sense he usually did.
36:29Which brings us back to this little collection.
36:32I think he poisoned one of these lozenges.
36:35Gave it to Michael backstage.
36:37Then added poison to that wine bottle on stage after he died.
36:40To misdirect us.
36:42Make us think that's what killed him.
36:45I'm afraid my little plan wasn't quite so smart.
36:48Well, and not so deadly.
36:50The bottle doesn't contain cyanide.
36:53It contains lysergic acid, diethylamine.
37:00LSD.
37:02The hallucinogen.
37:04I injected one of the lozenges.
37:06But not with cyanide.
37:08I didn't want to kill him.
37:09I just wanted him to feel how he made me feel.
37:14All powerless.
37:17I wanted everyone to see it.
37:21With the code that I am, I didn't go through with it.
37:27And when Michael collapsed on stage and we were called...
37:31Well, I panicked.
37:33Well, we were frenzy.
37:34I ran to the beach lockers, hit the evidence and...
37:38So, it was you, our security sword, trying to get into the dressing room.
37:41To get that key.
37:43Did you tell anyone else about your plan?
37:45I was so smashed half the time.
37:47I might have left it lying around.
37:51I don't know.
37:52Inspector.
38:03I think he might be telling the truth.
38:06We've re-watched the video and after Michael collapses, no one goes near the bottle he drank from.
38:12And look, Jez Garman puts down the bottle here and no one touches it again until I do.
38:20There.
38:21So, the poison was in the bottle all along?
38:24Nothing was added afterwards?
38:26No, sir.
38:28So, how come the other two that drank from the bottle didn't die and he did?
38:42You've reached Solomon.
38:44Leave a message, I'll get back to you.
38:47Sol, it's me again.
38:50Can you call me back?
38:51Please.
38:56So, I just heard back from a few of Jez and Anya's friends in the UK trying to get a
39:01handle on their marriage breaking up.
39:04Right.
39:06No one was shocked.
39:07It seems Jez wasn't the most faithful of husbands.
39:10He saw it as a kind of open marriage.
39:14Right, and what happens on tour stays on tour, then?
39:17And after three years of marriage, Anya felt betrayed and humiliated.
39:21He just basically took her for granted, but obviously never expected her to actually leave.
39:26So, when Anya hooked up with Michael, that must have really thrown him.
39:34Still haven't heard from your brother.
39:37You know what?
39:38I think he's actually ignoring my calls.
39:41I keep thinking about how things were between us, you know, when we last saw each other.
39:45They weren't great.
39:46In fact, if I'm honest, I kind of think it's because of me that we're going our separate ways.
39:50Then maybe you should go visit him in Antigua.
39:53You think?
39:54Yeah.
39:55Just go talk to him.
39:57I'm heading to the lab.
39:59You want me to drop you off at the shack?
40:01No.
40:02Take me to the high street, please.
40:04I need to get a bucket and spade.
40:07As in a kiddie's bucket and spade for, like, the beach.
40:13What other kind of bucket and spade is there?
40:15Sir, um, is this for the case?
40:18Or are you having a break now?
40:23Probably both.
40:28All right.
40:30Well, that's me done.
40:38Sarge, you don't need to stress yourself over this Jez Garman complaint.
40:43Like you said, the man's a total bozo.
40:45And the commissioner will definitely see that.
40:47Car, he can see through the lies.
40:51Because you're not too sure about it.
40:56There's something that you don't know about me from before I, uh, I came back to St. Marie.
41:05In Jamaica, I, I messed up on a case big time and, and some of my file and the commissioner
41:16knows about it.
41:18So, no, no, I'm not sure he's going to have my back on this.
41:25That's why you're transferred.
41:32Well, I mean, look, I wouldn't be so sure about that, Sarge.
41:39Because one thing I know for a fact is that the commissioner wants to give everyone a chance.
41:46Because, I mean, he did with me.
41:50Best decision he ever made.
42:13Good morning, Sarge.
42:14Officer Rawls.
42:16Oh, let's see.
42:16Yes, Thomas, Sarge.
42:18Somebody's giving the inspector some hair.
42:22I never thought I'd see the day of the man can have an Afro.
42:25Whoever did this, making a bold statement.
42:39Morning, Inspector.
42:41Have you seen the poster?
42:43Someone's giving you a glow-up.
42:45Yeah, I've seen it.
42:46Yeah, that really brings out your cheekbones, Inspector.
42:48Kind of suits you.
42:49Oh, and he's got his little kiddies' buckets.
42:52And spades.
42:54Four of them, in fact.
42:57One bottle.
42:58One dose of poison.
43:04Three people drink the same liquid from the same bottle.
43:10Now, how come only one of them ingest the poison and the other two don't?
43:14Well, that's not possible.
43:16Why not?
43:17They're sand in all of them.
43:19Or poison, so how?
43:21How indeed, Sergeant Fletcher.
43:26Is that from the lab?
43:27Yes.
43:32Confirms the liquid in the bottle we found in Mr. Dempster's cigar box was LSD.
43:40Not legal, but definitely not murder.
43:43Oh, sir, your buckets.
43:57The sea's washed all the sand away.
44:02It's like I was never there.
44:08Hang on.
44:12The water made the sand disappear.
44:17Or did it actually disappear?
44:20I mean, what if it was there all along?
44:23I think you poisoned one of these lozenges and added poison to that wine bottle onstage after he died.
44:29No one goes near the bottle you drank from.
44:30As for the fiasco, fairly high glucose levels.
44:35And if that explains the bottle, then where did the poison come from?
44:41You know, very, very swift makeup, costume change, reappear as Caliban in Act 1, scene 2.
44:48And with my long nails, I'll defeat you.
44:52Eat those.
44:55Ha!
44:56You know who did it.
44:59And I think I know why.
45:01But what about the how, Inspector?
45:03I mean, that's what the whole biggie is about, right?
45:05I'm pretty sure I know the how as well.
45:07But, Officer Rose, I need you to run another tox report on Mr. Farah, but I need a glass of
45:11water first.
45:12You're dehydrated.
45:13No, it's not to drink.
45:14It's just a little experiment that will finally prove what really happened onstage three days ago.
45:20One glass of water coming right up.
45:30Now, I don't want to talk ill of the dead.
45:34However, I think it's fair to say that Michael Farah was a selfish and self-interested individual who only cared
45:42about what he wanted in life and how he was going to get it.
45:46But, did the malicious and hurtful things he did to each of you really mean he had to die?
45:55Anya, you obviously thought he did.
45:59Because it was you that poisoned him.
46:01What?
46:02What?
46:02No, I absolutely did not.
46:07The mystery we've been trying to solve throughout this case is how three people could drink from the same poisoned
46:17bottle, yet only one of them dies.
46:21We didn't know it, but the answer has been right in front of us from the start.
46:26And in a way, Mr. Farah gave it to us in his dying breath.
46:32And with my long nails, I'll dig thee pig...
46:35And I, with my long nails, will dig thee pig nuts.
46:40Because that's the thing about Caliban, he was a monster, right?
46:44And as part of Michael's makeup to help make him look more...monstery, his nails were painted.
46:52And that's how he was poisoned.
46:55We need to get this to the lab.
46:57But we've already had Michael's fingernails tested, and it was confirmed there were traces of cyanide in the dried varnish.
47:05It was administered, Anya, by you, during his wardrobe change from the bosun into his Caliban costume, makeup, and painted
47:15fingernails.
47:18Nathan, you said Michael would get particularly nervous while waiting to go on stage for Act 2, Scene 2, yeah?
47:24A bit nervous.
47:25He would pace and bite his nails.
47:28Which, after touring for 12 months together, and having become intimate with him, you also knew, Anya.
47:37But I told you, Michael only ended things with me half an hour before he died.
47:42How could I plan his murder in that time?
47:44You're right.
47:46Michael's murder was planned in advance.
47:48But now we know the killer had to be you, then it follows that you'd already found out Michael was
47:54planning to end his relationship with you.
47:57You getting in?
47:59Yeah, maybe.
48:00And with Michael telling Jez as much...
48:02Look, I'm going to end things with Anya.
48:05I think you overheard that conversation.
48:07After everything, I thought you should know.
48:09And we believe that's when you decided to kill him.
48:13Then, if Michael's fingernails were poisoned...
48:17Well, why was there poison in the bottle?
48:19That was to misdirect us, right?
48:22To confuse us with the seeming impossibility that three people could drink from it, but only one die.
48:29Why weren't they all killed?
48:31I'm glad you asked me that, Mr Dempster.
48:33Because to answer that, we need to look to your own plan to get back at Michael Farah.
48:37We know Miss Chambers helped to put you to bed a number of times when you've overindulged.
48:44Nathan, dear Ania, they took it in turns, bless him, but he needed a bed.
48:49And you admitted yourself, you left the cigar box containing the syringe, the lozenges...
48:55I might have left it lying around.
48:56And this little bottle lying around the place.
49:00We believe you came across this box, Miss Chambers.
49:04Hey, Rich.
49:05A sip of water.
49:09And that's when your plans started to take shape.
49:14But instead of using LSD, you used a fatal poison.
49:22Now, I have to admit, it didn't register with me at first, the significance.
49:27But when our lab tested the liquid in that poison bottle, the cherry juice...
49:33As for the fiasco...
49:35They found the level of glucose in it higher than normal.
49:39That's where this comes in.
49:43Just over an hour ago, I dropped one of Mr. Dempster's throat lozenges in this glass of water.
49:49And now look.
49:52It's gone.
49:55Dissolved.
49:57And that's exactly what you did, Anya, with that wine bottle.
50:01Just before yourself, Jez and Michael went on that stage for Act Two, Scene Two.
50:06You see...
50:06No!
50:07As long as the lozenge was whole and hadn't dissolved...
50:11Jez...
50:12It was safe to drink from.
50:15Which you all did.
50:18But by the time we arrived at the crime scene and sent the bottle to the lab to be tested,
50:24the lozenge had already melted away, releasing the poison, making it seem like it had been there all along.
50:34But why?
50:36Why did you kill him?
50:40Anya, when you and Michael got together, you were still feeling hurt.
50:46And embarrassed by your husband's ongoing infidelities.
50:52Him taking you for granted.
50:54So for Michael, the kindred spirit that you'd risked everything for,
51:00to humiliate you even further by finishing with you, only a few months after getting together,
51:06well, it more than hurt.
51:08And that's when you realised that perhaps the rumours you've heard about Michael,
51:16which you previously dismissed, were actually true.
51:20That Mr. Dempster's claim that Michael spiked him actually happened.
51:27Did you tell them what Michael did?
51:28Yes, I don't think Anya believed me, but...
51:31And that Nathan Burns' own past run-in with Mr. Farrell was more than mere gossip.
51:36There's been gossip amongst the cast ideas, history between them.
51:39So you decided to do something that was long overdue.
51:43And on behalf of yourself, and everyone else here whose life he'd ruined,
51:49you would give Michael something he deserved.
51:52To make him the one to finally suffer.
51:56His own downfall.
51:58His own humiliation.
52:00Right there on that stage, for all the world to see.
52:05And that, Miss Chambers, is why you killed him.
52:17Anya Chambers, I'm arresting you for the murder of Michael Farrell.
52:22You do not have to say anything, but it may harm your defence
52:26if you do not mention when questioned
52:29something which you later rely on in court.
52:45You're not seeing up of yourself already?
52:47It's never a knob.
52:50Return of the bozo.
52:53Could we have a quick chat, please?
52:59I just want to let you know that I officially dropped my complaint this morning,
53:03and, um, and I wanted to say I'm sorry.
53:07You know you could have lost me my job just because I wouldn't have a drink with you?
53:13What kind of sick little messed up brain you have?
53:16Yeah, that's pretty much what your commissioner said.
53:18Wait, the commissioner?
53:19Yeah, he was the one who insisted I apologise and said he was going to charge me
53:23with wasting police time.
53:25He caught my agent.
53:26He's a pretty terrifying guy, actually.
53:29Oh, and there he is.
53:31OK.
53:32Well, look, I'd rather not have to deal with him again,
53:34so I'm really sorry.
53:36Thank you, sir.
53:46Sir?
53:48He apologised.
53:51He did?
53:52Thank you, sir.
53:54I'm sorry I couldn't get him to drop his complaint sooner.
53:58The man was clearly making it all up.
54:03So you knew he was lying all along?
54:06Of course.
54:07But one has to follow procedure in situations like this.
54:13It's just...
54:16I just...
54:17I just thought you didn't believe me, sir.
54:21You know, after everything that happened before.
54:24You made a promise to me
54:27that there were going to be no more mistakes.
54:32And I tend to take people at their word.
54:35You're a good sergeant.
54:36I can see that.
54:38So, keep it up!
55:01OK, if I get a bullseye on this next throw,
55:06I'll book a ticket to Antigua,
55:08and I'll go and see Seoul.
55:24Um...
55:26Maybe make it best of three?
55:28Yeah.
55:31Another bullseye,
55:32and I'm definitely going to Antigua.
55:48I don't believe it.
55:54Well, that's that, then.
55:55I guess it's really happening.
56:02Yes, Thomas.
56:04I'm just letting you know
56:06I won't be coming in tomorrow.
56:08I'm actually taking your advice as it goes.
56:10I'm going to see Seoul.
56:13Yeah?
56:14Well, I mean,
56:16I don't even know if he wants to see me, but...
56:18Hey, what's the worst that can happen?
56:34More water, please.
56:35I think it rather suits him.
56:38Yeah?
56:38That's the same thing I said, sir.
56:40Looks like one of the Jackson 5.
56:42And it is rather amusing,
56:44isn't it?
56:52Sir?
56:53Yes, Thomas?
56:53What is it?
56:54I think something has happened to the inspector.
57:17What the hell's going on?
57:18You.
57:19What?
57:23You.
