00:00Hello, we're here with Alexander Armstrong at the Farman Literary Festival, and he's just had a wonderful hour-long talk
00:06about his latest book, Evenfall and Temple Stone.
00:10Alexander, what's it like to inspire the children and young people of Farman to read?
00:14Well, it's a great privilege to be here, and really impressive, I must say. The audience is fantastic.
00:21They sat very quietly and attentively for a full hour, and then asked amazing questions at the end of it.
00:29I always loved that book, ask incisive and thoughtful, thought-provoking questions.
00:36But it's lovely just to talk a little bit about writing, and the great pleasure that's to be had in
00:42creating worlds.
00:43And I think we had some fun, we were trying to work out what various devices, magical devices might be,
00:49and I thoroughly enjoyed that. So, you know, it's been lovely to be here at Farman.
00:54So, one of the things you're most famous for among children is being the voice of Dougie on Hey Dougie.
01:02Could you just have a quick glimpse of that?
01:04Hey Dougie, yes, I'm not the voice of Dougie, I'm the narrator of Dougie.
01:11No, no, no, not the narrator, the face I have to pull to sound like the narrator of Dougie.
01:16It gives some idea of the immense stress that I put my voice under when I do it.
01:23That's such a lie. It's not stress at all.
01:25But yes, Dougie, I like that.
01:28The nice thing is I'm the only person who understands what Dougie's saying.
01:31So when Dougie just says woof, I go, Dougie, stop it.
01:37I always like the idea that he says some things that are not really repeatable.
01:43And one last thing, if the question on Pointless was to name a BBC CBeebies voice actor, would you like
01:54to be a pointless answer or not?
01:55Oh, I'd love to be an answer. I wouldn't want to be a point...
01:58This is a funny thing, lots of friends of mine come up and say,
02:01Oh, I gather I was on Pointless and I was a pointless answer.
02:03And I think, yes, that's a blessing and a curse, that.
02:07I mean, no, it's not a curse in any way, it's lovely to be on Pointless.
02:10But to be a pointless answer means no one thought of you.
02:13So yes, if you were a pointless answer, it means you were in the...
02:17At least you were there, you were on the list, but you weren't famously on the list.
02:22I'd like to think anyway that if somebody asked us that we'd name you.
02:27So thank you very much.
02:27Well, thank you very much indeed. That's very kind of you to say. Thanks.
