00:00Yallaha Rakuwanakam, my dear friend and brother, Honourable Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Thiru Muruganji, Chairman Airport
00:09Authority of India, Vipin Kumarji, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Rubina Aliji, Members, Airport Authority of India, Staff Airport
00:19Authority of India, and all the leaders, representatives of Thuttukudi city, and all the people, brothers and sisters who have
00:28come and participate.
00:30Participated in this historic occasion of renaming Thuttukurin Airport as Thuttukudi Airport.
00:36Vanakkam to each and every one of you and good afternoon.
00:39It is indeed a very historic occasion for all of us that now we are moving away from the colonial
00:45mindset and re-establishing the Tamil pride, Tamil heritage and the respect Tamil language deserves by renaming this airport today.
00:54And it is also a moment of great happiness for me because in July 25 itself, our Honourable Prime Minister
01:01Srinarendra Modiji, who loves Tamil Nadu, who loves Tamil, has taken special focus on this Thuttukudi Airport.
01:09And under his vision, we have spent 450 crores and the building that you are seeing right here has been
01:17inaugurated by him, where it caters for 20 lakh people annually and the building itself is 17,000 square meters.
01:25And the most important intervention that we have done at that time and the request of Thuttukudi has also been,
01:33sir, every time we are getting only small flights coming here.
01:36We want big Airbus, we want big Boeings to come and land here.
01:40That is why we have taken the request of Thuttukudi people and we have built then what runway was around
01:471350 meters, we have extended up to 3 kilometers and we have Airbus, A320s, Boeings and bigger wide-body aircrafts
01:57also.
01:57We have created the facility of all those big aircrafts to come to Thuttukudi Airport.
02:02But one thing that was still pending to do, in Tamil when we see it was written properly as Thuttukudi.
02:08But in English, Thuttukurin and in Hindi, Thuttukurin.
02:12That is not what we want.
02:14Our Honorable Prime Minister has a very clear vision.
02:19India has to develop by 2047.
02:22100 years of independence should mean Viksit Bharat for each and every one of us.
02:26We should not look at other countries and say that country is developed, we want to become like that.
02:31By 2047, we should look at ourselves and show our heads to the world and say this is what developed
02:36country has to be looked like.
02:38This is what developed India looks like.
02:40This is what Viksit Bharat looks like.
02:43And for that, we need to have a mindset change.
02:47It is not just by changing names or by changing the words that we will become Viksit Bharat.
02:53It is by changing the attitude.
02:55It is by changing the self-confidence that we have.
02:58It is by changing the mindset that we have.
03:00And that is what the intention is by renaming this airport which we want to achieve.
03:06His vision for Viksit Bharat, our Honorable Prime Minister, he has given Panchpran the five results.
03:12Out of that, two of the results are that we have to get away from the colonial mindset.
03:18You know why we have to get away from colonial mindset?
03:21The colonial mindset was put in India so that we all become subservient.
03:27We all feel that there is someone more powerful, someone more intelligent, someone who knows everything to do better and
03:35we follow them.
03:36That was the attitude and the mindset that was built into India at that time.
03:39They wanted to rule us.
03:41So they wanted to make us feel that kind of attitude and that colonial attitude is still lingering in certain
03:47activities.
03:48But once our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has come into the picture, he has said no more colonial mindset.
03:55We all need to get back to the cultural roots that India has.
04:01And where we all feel pride of being Indians is about the Tamil culture, the Tamil literature, the Tamil history.
04:12One of the most ancient languages not only in India but across the world is Tamil language.
04:19And our Honorable Prime Minister respects that.
04:22He wants to promote it.
04:24He wants to protect it.
04:26And it is with that idea, in the last 12 years under his leadership, we have done money activities for
04:33Tamil Nadu state.
04:35Not only in the kind of infrastructure development, we have spent crores of monies.
04:40Just now you have heard our Honorable Prime Minister himself say,
04:44the amount that has been spent for infrastructure before India government has come in,
04:50has now tripled in the last 10 to 12 years.
04:54If you take railway infrastructure, we have laid down new lines.
04:59We have done doubling, tripling and quadrupling of railway lines.
05:03We have started Vande Bharat trains, Amrit Bharat trains and new trains are also coming in for Tamil Nadu.
05:10And then if you look at airports, Chennai airport, we are developing a new terminal spending 2500 crores.
05:17We have done 450 crores new terminal building in Tuttukudi.
05:22And then in Madurai, we have just coming from Madurai also, we have announced Madurai airport as Madurai International Airport
05:29also today.
05:30Another historic development for the city of Madurai.
05:33Salem airport under Udan scheme, which is the grand vision of our Honorable Prime Minister.
05:39Salem airport has also become operational.
05:42Coimbatur airport, which is the second biggest city of Tamil Nadu.
05:46And there has been a strong demand for increasing the capacity and building a new terminal.
05:50And now that new terminal building is also under progress.
05:54And we are going to very soon start the work in Coimbatur also.
05:58And all this happened in the last 10 years.
06:01The air traffic that was going out of Tamil Nadu and was traveling into Tamil Nadu has increased by 40%.
06:08That is the growth that civil aviation has seen in the state of Tamil Nadu.
06:13And if you look at our Madurai airport also, in the last 12 years, right from 2014, there were around
06:2080,000 people that were traveling here.
06:24And from 80,000 people, if you look at today, there are almost 2 lakh people traveling every year from
06:30this Tuttukudi airport.
06:32So the number of passengers have also doubled in the last 10 to 12 years.
06:36More flights are coming in.
06:38More connectivity is being established.
06:40Now we have expanded the runway.
06:43So definitely bigger flights are also going to come.
06:45And I also want to say to the people of Tuttukudi where they have a long pending demand that the
06:51airbus connectivity has to come, especially to Chennai also.
06:54So I will be on it and I will ensure that that starts as soon as possible.
06:58More airbuses come here.
07:00You get a good connectivity not only to Chennai, but other important cities across the country also.
07:06And that is a commitment we are making to you and to this city today.
07:10And why we are doing it?
07:12Tuttukudi has a grand future.
07:15Tuttukudi which is also called the pearl city, Muttunagaram.
07:20Very historic city.
07:22Right from the colonial days to independent India.
07:27Many industries have come here.
07:29Tuttukudi is a port city.
07:32Tuttukudi we have power plant.
07:34Energy sector also improving here.
07:36Lot of industry coming here.
07:39And so much tourism activity also going to develop around Tuttukudi.
07:43So the way Narendra Modiji is forcing Tuttukudi to become one of the most important investment destinations in the country
07:51where lot of job creation is also going to come.
07:55Then Tuttukudi is not only going to be for Tuttukudi people.
07:59You will see people from across Tamil Nadu also coming here and staying here.
08:03You will see people from Kerala.
08:05My state of Andhra Pradesh also coming here looking for jobs.
08:08That is the potential this city has.
08:11And our government, NDA government under the leadership of Narendra Modiji has put special focus on Tamil Nadu.
08:20The last 12 years more than the infrastructure development, the money we have spent so that the Tamil Nadu is
08:26developed.
08:26There has been a personal focus from our honourable prime minister also like I have said because he loves Tamil
08:32Nadu and he loves the culture here and he loves the people here.
08:36That is why in Pungal time we also celebrate Sankranti.
08:41But Modiji has given opportunity to Muruganji only.
08:45In Delhi he has gone to his residence for Pungal and our Anna has been very kind enough to invite
08:50all the Telugu people.
08:52With our prime minister we have very very jubilantly celebrated Pungal festival there.
08:58And then you are looking at Thiruvallur cultural centres being developed in Tamil Nadu, in Singapore, in Malaysia, in other
09:07countries.
09:08And then you are seeing Kashi Tamil Sangamam also how much importance that is coming.
09:13How strongly that Sangamam is increasing day by day.
09:15So what Tamil Nadu is not what 75 years of Tamil Nadu what Modiji is looking.
09:22Modiji is looking to strengthen the Tamil Nadu what it was 2000 years ago, 3000 years ago, 4000 years ago.
09:30And all the people who have lived for the pride of Thutukudi especially.
09:37We have to talk about Katha Brahman.
09:41We have to talk about Pillai.
09:44All these great people who have walked this Thutukudi and this Tamil Nadu, they are getting their due respect today.
09:51Whenever we talk about Thutukudi, we talk about those names.
09:55And that is the kind of shift in the mindset that Modiji has brought in today.
10:00And what has it given to the common man?
10:03What has it given to the average Indian?
10:05Now every Indian feels proud about himself.
10:09Feels proud about being in this country.
10:11Feels proud about the legacy that has been coming from generations.
10:15Feels proud about the culture that has been given to us from our fathers.
10:20And unless we feel the strength of that kind of heritage and culture, we can't move forward with our heads
10:28high.
10:29So, with that sense, we have taken the decision that we are going to change the name of this airport.
10:36And I see the happiness in all of you when we are saying that everything will be called Thutukudi Airport.
10:42So, even if someone is coming from Delhi, even if someone is coming from some other country, you don't need
10:49to say that this is Thutukudi Airport.
10:51You only have to say, this is Thutukudi Airport.
10:54You can read it in English.
10:55It says Thutukudi Airport.
10:57Anyone coming from North India, you can say you read it in Hindi.
11:00It says Thutukudi Airport only.
11:02So, there is nowhere where we will write Thutukur in airport.
11:05So, from today, the legacy and the pride of this place, everything is being instilled into.
11:11And our Honourable Minister has also multiple times requested for this.
11:16And I also have to remind that local MP also has come many times in the parliament.
11:21She has also requested.
11:22And it is the vision of our Honourable Prime Minister.
11:25See, I am telling because they are all requested because they know if anyone has to do it, it is
11:29Narendra Modi ji only who will do it.
11:32Because the name has been there for so long.
11:35Why has it not been done before?
11:36Because there was no leader like Narendra Modi ji who had the willpower to do it.
11:42Today, people are asking all kinds of things.
11:46Big expectations.
11:47All these smaller cities also.
11:49I have to take example of our airports.
11:51People are coming from North East area.
11:54Where if you want an airport, people would say that it is impossible.
11:57Why do we need an airport?
11:58Who will go from here?
11:59That was the kind of thought people used to have before.
12:03Or people from some remote parts of Tamil Nadu.
12:07Or people from Andaman or Lakshwadip.
12:09People from Kashmir or people from Rajasthan.
12:12There are so many areas before where people thought that we don't need airports.
12:16We just have railways, that is okay.
12:18Or we have good road connectivity, that is okay.
12:21But today, the person from lower income class or middle income class or an average common man of this country
12:29is proudly saying that I also want to travel by air.
12:32I also want to use the airports.
12:34I also want to have a ticket where I can go to any part of this country.
12:38I want to travel by air.
12:40This is the change our Prime Minister has brought.
12:43And it has been brought through the Oudan scheme.
12:46And now if you look at the airport network that we have created in the country,
12:51in the last 12 years, we have created airports from 74 in 2014 to 166 and counting today.
13:00Every 45 to 50 days, we are opening a new airport.
13:04No other country is matching the speed at which we are growing our airport network.
13:08And we are not stopping here.
13:09We are saying next 5 years, we will build 50 more airports.
13:12By 2047, Viksit Bharat, we will build 350 airports.
13:18So that is why when I am in the Parliament,
13:20Honourable Members, there are 543 MPs in Lok Sabha
13:24and around 200 average in Rajya Sabha.
13:28Every single person is coming and meeting me and saying,
13:32please give me an airport.
13:33If they already have an airport, they are saying,
13:36please give me more better connectivity.
13:37If they have good connectivity, they are saying,
13:40please give me international connectivity.
13:41So the aspiration and ambition for people across the country is that
13:46civil aviation is our aviation.
13:48Civil aviation is civilian aviation.
13:50And that change that Narendra Modiji has brought,
13:53has brought a lot of economic impact in the country.
13:57Everywhere there is an airport, what is the first thing that happens?
14:00When you say airport is developing, you see the real estate all around,
14:04all the real estate prices just go up.
14:07There is big real estate sector that grows.
14:09Construction sector improves.
14:12Hotels come there.
14:13People who want to travel to these destinations, tourism,
14:16or if it is spiritual tourism, visiting temples,
14:19or ecological, biological tourism,
14:22where they are going to all the good destinations and enjoying the nature.
14:25All of that improves.
14:27Trade, commerce.
14:28If you see, look at the fright numbers.
14:31Until 2014, there was no cargo that was happening from this airport.
14:36But in the last 12 years, we have increased the cargo up to 334 metric tons.
14:43As more connectivity comes to this Thutukudi airport,
14:47you can send local products also to other places.
14:50Why should you send by air?
14:52I was just talking in Madurai also when I was telling them what is famous in Madurai.
14:57Madurai, Mally is famous.
14:59The jasmine flower is required all across the world.
15:04There are a lot of Tamilians only who are staying abroad.
15:07A lot of South Indians also, even the women today,
15:09they wear flowers in their hair and when they are doing puja also,
15:13they use the jasmine flower.
15:14So it is in top demand all across the world.
15:18But if you want to send it by ship,
15:20it will take two months or one month.
15:22The flower will not have the freshness.
15:23So you will only have the opportunity to send it by air.
15:27And there are many other perishable time-sensitive products
15:30which only have to be sent by air.
15:32Now once we have a strong network of an airport there,
15:36all the export and import industry there also increases.
15:40The culture gets boost, agriculture gets boost,
15:43trade gets boost, commerce gets boost.
15:46So airport is not just this 500 or 600 acres that is getting improvement.
15:51When you have a strong airport in the city,
15:54the impact is felt on each and every person living in that city.
15:58It is a big boost to all the economic activities that happen in the city.
16:03So that is why I am once again saying to the Thutukudi people
16:07that from the NDA government,
16:09from our Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,
16:12special focus will continuously be there in this Thutukudi airport.
16:16We will keep supporting the airport operations here,
16:18give better connectivity and uphold the pride,
16:23the respect, the legacy, the culture
16:25Tamil has in all of India's history
16:28and especially in the whole world itself.
16:31So this is a great opportunity for me
16:33that it is happening under me being the minister.
16:37I don't know how many people know
16:38but I am the youngest minister in the cabinet today.
16:42It is with the blessings of our Honorable Prime Minister
16:44and I also come from Telugu Desyam Party
16:47so blessings of my leader Nara Chandrababh Naidugaru.
16:51Otherwise becoming a minister at this age is not a joke.
16:55But they believe in young leadership.
16:57This is what the country needs.
16:59You give the mic to any politician,
17:01now elections are also coming.
17:03You will see a lot of people in campaign also,
17:06everyone they will come and say,
17:07India is about youth.
17:09Youth should come forward.
17:10Youth should vote.
17:11India has so much population about youth.
17:14But when it comes to encouraging,
17:16not many people will support.
17:18But that is not the attitude of our Prime Minister.
17:22When he feels that youngsters can perform,
17:25he gives them good place.
17:26And he has given me that place in the cabinet.
17:28I am very, very grateful to our Honorable Prime Minister.
17:31Not because he has given that opportunity to be me.
17:34He has given that opportunity
17:36as a symbol to the Indian youth.
17:38And that is why I take it as a greater responsibility
17:41as a youngster that I have to perform in this ministry.
17:44And for that,
17:45in the last 20 months of me being the minister,
17:48we have taken great initiatives.
17:49We are building more airports.
17:51We are building manufacturing of aircrafts
17:54also into the country in a very big way.
17:56We are improving the drone ecosystem in the country.
17:59We are starting seaplanes also very soon.
18:02We are improving the helicopter operations in the country.
18:05Many more activities related to civil aviation.
18:08We are ensuring that the right progress is happening
18:11so that through civil aviation,
18:12each and every person who is there in this country
18:15can feel proud in this sector.
18:17So once again,
18:18my best wishes to all the Thutukudi people
18:20and through you
18:21and through the friends in the media,
18:22I want to wish the larger group of people of Thutukudi also
18:26my heartiest congratulations
18:27in the renaming of this airport into Thutukudi.
18:31Once again,
18:32my best wishes to all of you.
18:33And I just will end with one statement
18:36that for us to go forward,
18:38just like how you have seen,
18:40Modiji is a man on a mission.
18:42He wants to build an India
18:44which is very, very strong,
18:46which is decisive,
18:47which stands up in front of the world
18:49with all its true strength and mighty.
18:52And that is the idea.
18:53And he knows that as just a prime minister,
18:55it is not only his responsibility to do it.
18:58He needs the support of all of you.
19:00And Tamil Nadu also needs the support
19:02of Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modiji.
19:05And he has been continuously given.
19:08And now you are getting an opportunity
19:11to return the favor that he is doing for you.
19:14So, I request the people of Tamil Nadu
19:16to continue the support,
19:19to shower more blessings
19:20on the NDA government
19:22and especially our beloved leader,
19:24one of the most powerful
19:26and famous leaders across the world,
19:28Honorable Prime Minister of India,
19:30Narendra Modiji.
19:32Elarko Wanakam.
19:34Jai Hin.
19:34Jai Bharat.
