00:00I love Lord of the Rings, that's the first Lord of the Rings reference I've heard, and I'm like, that's
00:04score.
00:04Yes!
00:18Ellen says an interesting thing.
00:21She says that her father told her true freedom is the ability to think.
00:26Do you agree with her and with him?
00:27Yeah, I love that scene. We see her say that to him in a flashback. And yes, I do agree
00:36with that. And I think that very much shapes who Ellen is. I think she's very different to most women
00:41at the time because she has an education and she has learned how to think.
00:46And in a way that makes things really hard for her because she knows so much. And yet there's so
00:52little she can do or so little people might think she can do.
00:55But because she is so smart, she uses that ability to think in order to influence the people who actually
01:03have the power, i.e. the men.
01:06And so, yeah, I think, yeah, I think she's an amazing character. I love her.
01:11Yeah, I agree. And can we say that both your characters, both Ellen and Brian, are underestimated?
01:19Ellen because she's a woman, but also Brian's, I think, a little bit underestimated by his family.
01:24So, yeah, it could be an asset sometimes to be underestimated.
01:29Yeah, well, I think, I think both of them are outcasts in their own way, you know, and when you
01:34say lovely, you know, underestimated.
01:36Yeah, totally, because, you know, Brian is very physically capable, but he doesn't use that because he's very much at
01:44peace, you know, with his life.
01:46You know, he's a simple man. He builds walls. He looks after his horse. He just is easy, easy going.
01:55And underestimated is a really, really good way to put it.
01:57And then he meets this one. He meets Ellen McKenzie.
01:59And then all of a sudden this simple life that he's, you know, grown accustomed to is blown out of
02:05the water.
02:05And, yeah, it goes on this roller coaster.
02:09I think Ellen is also underestimated, mostly by her brothers.
02:12I think they have no idea how key she actually is behind the scenes.
02:16And that's, yeah, like you were saying, I think her ability to think is what saves her, ultimately.
02:22She uses that to her advantage in order to be with the guy that she wants to be with.
02:27And speaking about the scene in which they meet the first time, it made me think about Romeo and Juliet,
02:35the movie,
02:36the Batman movie, because instead of the aquarium, you have chickens.
02:43And horses.
02:44And horses.
02:46And also, so, I was shooting that scene.
02:51It was so, yeah, we actually had the same thought when I first read it, because it was written in
02:55the script that they see each other through the slats.
02:58And I immediately went back to that moment in Romeo and Juliet.
03:01It's one of my favorite films.
03:03And I think it's such a romantic way to meet.
03:07And it was so much, we had a lot of fun shooting that scene.
03:10We actually shot it twice, because we came back to it at the end.
03:13I think we originally didn't shoot it with, we didn't see each other through the wall.
03:18And they must have watched it and felt like that was missing.
03:20And so we went back and shot it in that way.
03:22And I'm really glad that we did.
03:23It was one of my favorite days on set, was shooting that scene.
03:26Yeah, it was great.
03:27Just the energy.
03:27And it was one of the very last things we shot, wasn't it?
03:30Yeah, it was, right at the end.
03:31So we knew each other so well by that point.
03:33And our characters had gone on such a journey.
03:35So many things had happened to them.
03:36It was quite strange, but also quite nice to go back to, you know, the very early, youthful time.
03:43The first time you see your love in the butterflies.
03:45Yeah.
03:46It's cool.
03:46It was nice.
03:47You have also a nice scene, which you look like Aragorn and Arwen on the bridge.
03:54Oh, nice.
03:54I love the references.
03:56I love Lord of the Rings.
03:57That's the first Lord of the Rings reference I've heard.
03:59And I'm like, that's score.
04:00Yes.
04:02Nice one.
04:03This TV show has also an interesting take on power.
04:06And we see that great leaders are or men of diplomacy or men whose actions speak louder than words, as
04:17your brother says.
04:19So in your opinion, what makes a great leader?
04:21Oh, nice question.
04:23That's a great question.
04:24I think the ability to think and to not be selfish.
04:29I think you have to act on behalf of the people that you're leading.
04:35And you have to have strength in your decisions.
04:42Yeah.
04:43And I think basically Ellen would have been a great leader.
04:46Yeah.
04:47She's a woman.
04:48You have to be courageous and brave.
04:50You have to be ready to make the hard decisions, I think.
04:53And, you know, you see that during our show, there's, you know, different leaders of different things and they all
04:57have to make these really difficult decisions.
05:00And I think, you know, as a leader, that's what you have to do sometimes.
05:04You're not going to please everybody, but it's for the greater good.
05:07Yeah, it's true, actually.
05:08And there's moments of real difficulty in the show because, you know, people have to make sacrifices for that reason.
05:15Because they are the leader and they have to think, you know, they have to make decisions for the sake
05:19of the clan and other things, relationships get damaged along the way because of that.
05:27And it's a hard, it's a hard balance to strike, I think.
05:33I love also the Julia and Harry, they are both interesting couples and for each other, they are all representing
05:41hope.
05:42And I want to ask you, since we nowadays, we need hope so much in Europe, how can we have
05:47hope?
05:48It's a, for me, it's a belief thing, you know, it's a mentality we can choose.
05:52I'm a big believer in stoicism, you know, at its core, it's, you know, you can control what you can
05:59and accept the rest of it.
06:02And I believe hope is one of these things that we can control, self-generated, and it really does start
06:08with you.
06:09So there's, obviously, there's, in the world today and with different people's lives and all sorts, it can be really
06:15hard to find that.
06:16But I do believe that we all have the ability to really try and to make it happen, if we
06:24so wish, as difficult as it can be.
06:26I think I maintain hope through, you know, every time I see a moment of kindness from someone, I think
06:36that makes me feel hopeful in humanity as a whole.
06:41I think the more that we just keep being kind to one another and listening to one another and spreading
06:46love, which is something that I think we can all do.
06:48We can all make our little corner of the world a better place to live in.
06:53Things can feel a bit overwhelming sometimes and, like, they're on a huge scale that is out of our control.
06:57But I think that's something that we can all do individually, which has a huge impact.
07:04Definitely.
07:04Beautiful said.
07:06Thank you.
07:06Thank you so much.
07:08Great job.
07:08I really loved you at the show.
07:10Thank you.
07:10Thank you so much.
07:11It's been a pleasure.
07:12So nice to meet you.
07:13Thank you.
07:19Thank you.
