00:00Marijuana legalization is sweeping the nation, with 21 states and D.C. now allowing recreational use of the product.
00:07But still, there are few establishments where anyone can use the product in public.
00:10Places many likened to cannabis bars, as they remain illegal in most cities.
00:14But with the recent approval of new cannabis lounges in Sin City, that may soon change.
00:19The Las Vegas Council recently approved new regulations, allowing them in the massively tourist-dense city.
00:24The new rules require buffer zones between each facility, and between cannabis lounges in things like parks, churches, daycare centers,
00:30and other public recreation facilities.
00:33But there's one more catch.
00:34They can't be set up inside Las Vegas' most iconic institutions, casinos.
00:38Local business experts say these rules are overly prohibitive, in a time when these types of facilities already have enough
00:44trouble finding footing.
00:45With Mehe Huck, a retail lounge consultant, telling MJBizDaily, quote,
00:49If they are hoping to develop cannabis tourism, this buffer is not going to help.
00:53Still, others see the new regulations and fees as a guiding path towards lounges existing in Las Vegas and all.
00:59There are already a handful of these lounges around the country, but due to the nature of their product, and
01:03the ways in which it is imbibed, so far things have been slow to take off.
