00:00Play hard and strong, all the way.
00:02Hold it, please.
00:04Try it one more time from the top.
00:06One, two, one, two.
00:09Ladies and gentlemen, the Beach Boys.
00:12The Beach Boys just represented some sort of fantasy.
00:16They were participating in the creation of a California dream.
00:21Man, they made me want to go to where they had cars and girls in bikinis.
00:29And Son.
00:30Their music takes you someplace.
00:34There's definitely been ups and downs.
00:36They've probably been counted out half a dozen times.
00:40We used to sing three-part harmony in the backseat of the car.
00:43And that's the birth of the brothers singing together.
00:45Round, round, get around, I get around.
00:48Three brothers, Brian, Dennis, and Carl, a cousin, Mike Love, and our good friend, El Jardim.
00:53That's family to me.
00:55We've known each other for a really long time, man.
00:56There really is a great deal of fellowship in the group.
00:59And we've been turned off a lot.
01:03We ended up, it's kind of like a rivalry.
01:05The Beatles, bring them on.
01:06Here are the Beach Boys.
01:10If one group didn't have the other, would their music actually be what it became?
01:16Brian was really learning to be a producer.
01:18That's when we started realizing there's some genius here.
01:21But his dad began to be an obstacle.
01:23Brian, I'm a genius too.
01:25Let's go, huh?
01:26My Uncle Murray sold for the publishing.
01:29And Brian went, you sold my songs?
01:34Brian put together textures that no one had ever put into popular songs before.
01:39He did it first.
01:57They really show what it's like when everybody understands the part they have to play.
02:04There's something about the way those individuals blended together.
02:08They're all part of it.
02:15The fact that it was a family, that's where the success came from.
02:20Wouldn't it be nice to remember when it's the matter?
